Of course it depends on medical information released today, but will be interesting to see how they handle this...

Yesterday on Bruins pregame they were talking about the Pats/Bills game. Felger and Jim Murray were talking about how lucky the Pats were, especially with beating backup/bad QBs. Felger said something along the lines of "you just know that Allen or Diggs or someone big on the Bills is getting hurt tonight"

See Felger knows what works and gets the ratings. All the stuff you complained about make them a top radio show in the country.

He's openly admitted he hated talking about Deflategate for 2 years but he HAD TO because the shows where they were all Deflategate they had higher ratings. He said they could break down ratings by segments and the ones based solely on DG did better
TV & radio gets ratings that are broken down by minutes. So, they can see what is happening every 60 seconds.

Felger came to 98.5 saying he wasn’t going to turn into the Big O and only talk football. It hasn’t worked out. His show has become a massive disappointment for someone who loved his show on 980am (if I recall right).

He was edgy and insightful and was still a prick, but he’s just gone off the deep end for me. The beginning of yesterday’s show where he seemingly carried some water for the NFL was a sad commentary. It’s a shame. He’s talented though, give him that.

Mazz hasn't been on in 2+ weeks I think., though I think it was illness for the week before the Xmas break.
Still surprised he hasn't been on this week other then stopping in to say hi before the WC.

I agree with the overall point that the show across the board has been a disappointment in terms of what it could have been. I didn't really have any issues with his takes over the Hamlin situation other than him using it as another opportunity to bash Patriots fans, claiming anyone criticizing the NFL was doing so because they are cry baby homers mad over Deflategate. That was fairly limited in terms of the overall conversation though. Felger is not the type to "carry the water" for the NFL. He absolutely hates the owners. One of his most fundamental Patriots takes is bashing the Krafts for being cheap.

Last night Felger & Jim did their FB live show. Felger was asked where Mazz has been. Said he didn't know but that the guy has more vacation time then anyone he's ever known. Was also asked about Adam Jones and if he had left for weei (including going head to head with F&M) and also cried ignorance on the subject.
Felger then had a somewhat passive aggressive comment about the winter ratings book starting on Thursday and all the shows are up and running, yet no Mazz or Jones.

Edit: Noticed some odd today. Normally when a host is out Murray slides over to a host chair and someone else will do the sports flashes during breaks. In essence in that there is always three people doing the show.
But today it's just Felger & Murray, with Murray still doing the flashes. Maybe it's just a coincidence, or maybe it's just a further example of the station cutting costs?

It could also be that nobody was available to do it. Joe Murray has a full-time job, Tim McKone is working tonight and has another job, Ryan Johnston worked this morning, and I believe Matt McCarthy has another job. Leroy Irvin is only on on the weekends or during dead periods in the calendar.

^ Entirely likely. Can appreciate the working multiple jobs hustle, would just think that if radio was really where you wanted to be you'd jump at any opportunity to appear on one of the nation's top sports shows.

I wonder if Giants fans in 2011 or Ravens fans in 2012 were saying the same thing........as Parcells used to say, just make the tournament, anything can happen, get hot at the right time and all that.
Actually, some Giants fans were saying that in 2011. Many were into the “best to get a better draft pick then get bounced quickly from the playoffs” sentiment that I’ve seen on SoSH this season from a few folks.

I'd love to see them play an extra game and let the chips fall where they may.

Yeah, not wanting to make the playoffs is super dumb. How can you hate watching you team play? If you think they suck, hey, anything that happens is gravy and you're already mentally prepared for the worst case scenario. The difference in draft pick is negligible too.

The no Mazz stuff is weird. Felger did a FB live (which is always think is awkward because he drops f bombs and they sound forced....like someone told him he HAD to) and he keeps jokingly saying stuff like "he has more days off than anyone I know....he must have a good agent....I call him little Michael hurley" so I'm not sure what's going on.

Also on the Facebook live Felger answered questions that were coming in and someone asked about Adam Jones, and he said "he's not here anymore. I like Adam but I don't know if he's going to EEI or what time slot he's on" which is of course a lie

Yeah and Mazz was gone again yesterday.
Hard to think there isn't something going on, he hasn't been on in weeks.

Mazz is back. Addressed his absence as having a fairly serious health issue that he hadn't anticipated.
Also said NESN hasn't welcomed him back for 2023.

My first thought was a heart-related issue. We men of a certain age start to have issues like that in our 50s. :(

Predictably, the first 2 shows today are apoplectic at NESN for not bringing Mazz back.

I think it was Fred who insisted people actually tune in to listen to Mazz.

Who was the NFL owner who said "pussy" in a quote and the story was everywhere and apparently they all learned then that they're allowed to say that....

What are they saying?
That Bloom looking for hi5s after saying that the new contract with Devers was just one example of their vision for the future and to be highly competitive year after year is super cringe. It's nice that they resigned him, but imo the criticism is fair. On paper the Sox are worse today then they were at the end of the season when they finished last.

That press conference was beyond embarrassing, yammering about the vision and plan the organization has, how they are driven and focused on winning another World Series.

Just pathetic.

So you think they are intentionally trying to suck and really aren't trying to win another WS?

What have they done this off season after a last place finish to show you as a fan that they are trying to win another World Series?

As it stands right now, they need a starting catcher, second baseman, shortstop and one or two more starters, unless you think Paxton and Sale are good to go.

What is the plan for first base too by the way?

And Is Hernandez your everyday centerfielder/starter?

If you watched that press conference and came away thinking "Yeah, they have a solid plan and a great vision moving forward and are well on their way to winning a World Series", then God bless you.

The purpose of the press conference was to announce the Devers signing, which seems fairly press-conference worthy. It's going to take more than a season to be a WS team.

Did you listen to what Bloom said? Never mind the purpose of the press conference, it's the "what he said" part that is mind boggling to me.

So, that's a "yes," they are intentionally trying to not win a world series. And not, 'it's just that I think they;re fucking it all up"?

I think counting on Sale is not unreasonable. Paxton....I;d like to see his arm survive ST, but he seemed fine until his late lat.I think the plan is for Casas to get the first shot at 1st base. That's not "no plan" or "no 1st baseman." Its a rookie, and like all rookies he might suck and be pumping gas by July 4.

What was mind-boggling about it. Or is just that you think he's lying about his/ownership's goals?

Wait, you think 1st base and CF (or wherever Hernandez ends up playing) are issues?

1B is a question mark until Casas proves himself, yes. He could be very good, but also could be a run of the mill platoon player as well.
So they should do what to address that right now? The plan at 1b is obvious, he's one of their highest rated propsects and looks ready, he's going to play nearly every day and should.

So I mentioned this awhile back, but it now seems proven that going forward when a host is out they just run the show with two hosts. Hurts the show imo as three voices are better then two, and sometimes it's nice to get a "fresh" voice in the mix.

The Land of Fist Pumps
Dumping on Tatum for the 50+ point game:

Mazz: 50 point games are relatively meaningless now.

Murray: It was the Hornets. Who cares.

Felger: Let’s see Tatum do it in Game 6 of the NBA Finals like Giannis did against the Suns.

These guys hate fun.

If Tatum did do it in Game Six against the Suns, the F&M narrative would be,

“the rest of the Celtics simply didn’t show up for a Finals game. Pitiful. Yeah they won, but where was the team effort, Mike?”

“Typical NBA Tony, you just need to have the best player on the court. It’s not like the old days.”

“I agree. Also I stole another person’s Starbucks coffee today because I’m an alpha and don’t have time to wait.”
