I see Loathsome Lackey on the mound and instinctively root for the Giants.

I just like the Giants. I know I should want the Cubs to get their World Series, but I find that I don't care, which I'm afraid makes me a bad person. And I can't stand John Lackey.

So, Vasgergian just said that David Ross has had more effect on the post-season than David Ortiz? I guess he's referring to this current post-season.
BMMH, are you a White Sox fan or just a Red Sox fan? (I think you live in Chicago, but perhaps you come from somewhere else.)

Grew up in Western Mass, been in Chicago for 31 years, and I'll never be a fan of any teams other than Boston teams. They're in my DNA and I've never understood people who change allegiances.
But I have a special dislike for the Cubs and I have since I got here. And recent years sure as hell haven't helped things.

Me too, the Giants are my second favorite team.

Regardless; sorry, I just can't get behind the Cubs. their playoff history vs the Red Sox history is apples to hand grenades, it's more one of futility and buffoonery vs heartbreak.

The Red sox had Pesky holding the ball, the impossible dream loss in 7, probably the greatest world series ever in 75 including one of the most memorable post season home runs ever by Fisk in game 6, the epic 1986 loss blowing games 6 and 7, plus the great comebacks vs the Indians in 1999 and the A's in 2003, followed by the nut punch loss in extra innings in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS to the hated Yankees, then throw in the blown AL East lead in 1978 and the infamous playoff game loss to the Yankees with the tying and winning runs on 2nd and 3rd with two outs in the bottom of the ninth before Yaz popped up to end it.

Compare that to the Cubs; they haven't won a World Series in 108 years. They haven't BEEN to a World Series in over 70 years. From 1946 through 1983, aside from the collapse of 1969, they stunk on ice. They blew the 84 NLCS to the Padres thanks to a costly error by Durham among other things.

They've got the Bartman thing like we have the Buckner thing, so there's that. Since Bartman in 2003, they went 12 years between trips to the NLCS (last year), when they got swept by the Mets. In their two appearances prior to that (2007 and 2008), they were also swept in the NLDS.

Plus, the Red Sox have the whole breaking the curse after 86 years/two other WS titles on top of that.

No comparison.

I have a remnant affection for Theo and most of the Red Sox alumni on the Cubs' roster, and would certainly root for the Cubs against most other teams. I'm still a Berkeley boy at heart though.

The Giants give me a taste of what it's like for the non-Pats fans out there. There's nothing wrong with the team per se, but that smug even-year entitlement irritates me.

While his footwork at the bag left something to be desired, Lackey's stretch backwards saved a bad throw and additional run.

I know I'm in the minority, but while I greatly appreciate what Theo did for the Sox, I have no interest in rooting for him elsewhere. And that would be true anywhere he went. I think he bailed on my team.

I cant tell you how much it would warm my heart if Genius Joe Maddon and his Cubbies got bumped out in a division series.
