Marrero has 5 games at 2b this year. Is this 2b depth with Pedroia to the DL?

Well you would imagine Brock Holt would start at 2B so you need a back up MIF.

AAA #s for this year and last....227 / 282 / 318.

24% K rate this year, up from 18% last year.

I assume he may be up for a brief amount of time. Where's Jeff Bianchi?

I think Jeff Bianchi was DFA'd and claimed elsewhere.

Good to see him get a cup of coffee as IMO, he has a pretty high ceiling (quality starting big league shortstop).  OTOH, his bat has been a disappointment in AAA after an outstanding year in Portland, so he may never be more than an AAAA or big league ultility guy

We don't have any days off for awhile and a couple 1pm starts mixed in. This allows Marrero to get his feet wet while keeping Holt available to spell someone else during those day games. Makes a ton of sense for the short term.

Edit: Just read the Pedrioa thread. Looks like it will be a little more than a cup. Ugh.

Not here
I'd like to see him play a little.

I have this fantasy where our 2016 bench consists of Marrero, Vazquez, Bradley, and Holt.

Anyone want to post gifs of Marrero's At-bats to maybe curb the enthusiasm around here? :)

I mean his most effective PA was putting the ball softly behind the runner to make a productive out. It woulda been wicked awesome had there not already been 2 outs.

Different from Pedroia, I think, in that Pedroia's signature diving stops are usually to the backhand side, and Marrero is both longer and a better leaper than Pedroia.

It took his bat a minute to heat up in Portland, too, and in Salem.  So far it looks as if he's capable of making adjustments, though.  Personally I like getting him a cup of coffee as well.
