Whos playing center for this team exactly? 40 year old Al Horford and a guy who averages 50 games a season?
JaMychal Green is still available, right?

Not that that should excite you, but he’d be a depth guy behind KP/Al/Kornet.

One of the things not mentioned that I'm sure will be getting headlines is the deteriorating relationship with Brogdon. I wonder if this deal happens had Brogdon not gone dark over the last handful of months.

I think this is a pretty sizeable overpay (I think Jrue is overrated by a pretty big margin), but I do love getting off of Brogdon. I'm going to miss watching Rob play, but injuries have clearly taken a lot from him.

Portland did exceptionally well in both of these trades. Hats off to them.

I'll miss TL, as the high points of his tenure were so goddamn high, but I love this deal. Can't believe our backcourt got better defensively after trading away Marcus Smart, but here we are.

Also, as a resident of the part of Northern California that's just as close to Portland as the Bay, I'm looking forward to watching the Blazers again!

Here
I've mentioned this before, but there is no objective universal criteria to pass or fail these physicals.

They know Rob has had knee surgery and am 100% sure they expect him to have some degree of cartilage damage.

Failing his physical would be about finding out something much worse than expected, maybe bone on bone or something. Still a possibility, but guys with knee issues are traded all the time and "pass" the physical.
Ok, but there’s Brogdon, too…

Wonder how much Brogdon being extremely thin-skinned played into this.
I have the same concerns, but trading away the guy that can be counted on for 20 games a year is an OK counterpoint to that theory imho
Right. And let's not dismiss the fact that we were probably pretty lucky to get as many games out of a chronically broken down Brogdon last season.

No brainer move. Love TL but that knee is a ticking time bomb and Brogdon didn’t want to be here after essentially trading him already.

Jrue/JB/Tatum/KP/Al with White as a 6th man. Wowzers.
White starts. His emergence last year opened this all up.

I will miss TL, but I feel like he’s never going to be the player we saw in 2022 again, sadly.

Ok, but there’s Brogdon, too…
If he had multiple opinions to take a non surgical route on his elbow, he probably had some partial tendon tear that will scar down. Would be shocked if after a summer of rest, his elbow is a major issue or something he could fail a physical for at this point.

Also, Brogdon is a pretty minor part of this trade. He may get them another pick, but the value is all in Timelord and the other draft picks. Don't think Portland cares too much about Malcolm anyway.

Very good deal. Rob looked washed last year. His defense wasn't great and I don't think he'll be more than a vet minimum player in 3 years. You also can't rely on Tingas Pingas and Timelord to be on your playoff rotation. I'd rather sign a less talented player that is dependable on the health side.

I'm not even worried about the 2029 pick, even if Jaylen and Jayson are on other teams. It's not hard to make the play-in tournament if you want. The Nets situation last decade almost never happens.

Im curious to hear what you think about him is overrated. He’s a streaky shooter who is a plus defender and a solid passer. Pain in the ass to play against.

By far the best top 6 in the league, will be interesting to see how they backfill PF/C minutes

Stunned anyone doesn't like this deal. Jrue immediately becomes the second or third best player on this team. He grinds as hard as anybody and is an absolutely incredible defender. He's nearly a forty percent 3 pt shooter, and yes, he's had some bad shooting in the playoffs, but while 3pt shooting over a 70 game sample may seem like it's a large sample, it's not. Look at his larger body of work. This team has the best defensive backcourt in basketball and the front court is equally vicious. Nobody is going to score against these guys.

Honestly feel like Milwaukee made something of a lateral move going from Jrue to Dame when you consider the Celtics ended up with Jrue.

And obviously Joel Embiid is somewhere crying right now.

I hate seeing TimeLord involved in this but I think you have to make the deal.
He really didn’t look like himself last year and it’s tough to watch him play when anytime he takes any sort of contact you’re bracing for a long-term injury.

The Celtics top 6 is now ridiculous. Get another big body in that’s better than Kornet and we are ready to cook

People are too fixated on a third big. Get a body that takes up space. If a third big is the actual delta between another also-ran and banner 18, they are already screwed.

This just reminds me of how pissed I still am that we choked against the Warriors. God I loved that fucking team and now Smart and Rob are gone for some of the most boring ass players you could ever watch hoop. Never mind losing the coach to a guy that imitated a cow on the sidelines until he got it under control.

Are they better? Probably. But it’s not what I wanted.

No Smart, No TimeLord…what a catastrophe.

We should get Boston Consulting Group as our sponsor. Fuck

So this off-season they...
Massively upgraded Rob Williams to KP
Massively upgraded Smart to Jrue
Shortened depth to do it.

The Short Bus
Portland turned a guy who wanted out and threatened not to play into
Deandre Ayton, TL, Malcolm Brogdon, 2 Unprotected ‘29 1sts, (Celtics and Bucks) 24 GSW 1st ‘28 & ‘30 Swaps (Bucks)

that’s good work, especially if they flip TL and Brogdon and get anything at all for them.

It’s not so much third big to me as the inevitable 2nd big when we suffer injuries or Father Time finally comes for Horford. At some point he’s not gonna be able to get it done any longer and the end often comes shockingly fast

If you don't like watching Jrue Holiday play, I don't know what to tell you. I was always TERRIFIED whenever he was defending our point guards.

You're mad they replaced a player they couldnt get over the hump with (smart) and another who couldnt stay healthy (williams)?

The goal is to win the title. That example you cited is a prime example. The window is tiny. All this tatum is young stuff is crap. Win now at all costs. Nothing is guaranteed

1 title is a massive. KG and Pierce have been living off 1 title for 10+ years

DARKO has him as valuable as Dame, to start. RAPTOR has him as nearly as good. I just don't see him as a top 10-15 player. He has been objectively awful in the playoffs. He got totally cooked against the Heat last year. His defense is clearly in decline.

He's good, but not two first round picks, a good starter, and the 6moy winner in a trade good.

Yeah. Or even a 1st big in some games. KP and Al are both health risks (of course so was Rob).

I'm on board with the trade, but the "3rd big role" is a bit more important for the Celtics than some other teams.

I LOVE TimeLord’s game but after he had two menisectomies in a short time frame I’ve had concerns that his knee was going to head in a bad direction quickly, especially given the way he plays. So much of his value on the boards was his ability to spring back up quickly, and I could see that ability declining rapidly as his knee deteriorates, sadly

Agree. It’s a deal I think had to be done at this cost but the risks are plainly obvious as well

I hate to see the Chronomancer go, but I wonder if they weren't just trading to get Jrue, but to also to be sure Philly or Miami didn't get him.

Thats a good trade for each team, hopefully. Portland is going to love Rob.

Blake Griffin come on down

Beef Centers that can play aggressive D (6 fouls) and set picks on O can be found. Queta, G-League MVP, will be their 6th string Center. If they need to add during the season they still own picks.

C's just added an All-Star & lockdown defender. Pat Riley is crying in his soup

I don’t blame Jrue for Coach Bud sticking him on Jimmy Butler. That was poor coaching.

Then it's a good thing that there is only one team in the East with a center, and the Cs just took away the best trade option his team had.

Embiid is going to get triple-teamed if Harden won't play.
