It's also really nice to be one of those teams where you know what you're going to get with the guys on the roster, and can go forward accordingly. You don't have to tear your hair out wondering what Nesmith's ceiling is anymore, etc.. Even Williams and Pritchard are a known quantity at this point.
They have definitely addressed the playmaking need Stevens identified in some of his post-finals remarks. Well done by him. It’s also liberating after years of hoarding draft assets to see the Celts use them to get some proven commodities. I’ll take this top-10 against anyone’s, and that’s not even taking into account the Jays continued upward trajectory and White getting more comfortable in the system.
Agreed getting rid of a veteran on a 3yr deal to begin playing kids makes complete sense from Indy's perspective. They are in a full rebuild.
Expect Myles Turner to be moved
I'm guessing Nesmith will be in their top 9 rotation. They were playing Lance Stephenson minutes last year, adding young players with upside is the right direction
Unprotected #1s are worth their weight in gold, but as far as future unprotected 1sts go this has to be about the least value possible. It's for 2023, and the Celtics are currently the NBA title favorite. Even if Tatum were to get hurt and miss huge chunks of the year it's likely to be in the 20s.

What other move would they have made with the 22M salary slot? They’re over the cap entering FA, so they’re limited to using their exceptions - and they just used the MLE on Gallinari - and trades with matching salaries (or use of the Fournier TPE).

Yes, I dare say Ime is a better coach and POBOBS is a better GM. That organizational readjustment worked wonders.
Given Brogdon’s injury history and the need to keep him bubble wrapped until the playoffs, there’s plenty of time for all their guards. The ability to give them longer rests after the bumps and bruises is an important part of ensuring that those minor injuries don’t turn into bigger ones.
Count me among the too many PGs is a good problem to have crowd. Smart and Brogdon will coexist. There will be games when Horford or TL are out or need rest and both Smart and Brogdon will start in small ball lineups. They’ll both get 25+ min/gm. They both profess to be team-first guys. It’ll work out. And if it doesn’t, PBS can deal with it at the trade deadline.

Yeah I didn’t mean to understate it. I’m an Ainge fanboy for the most part. But things felt somewhat dire given the really lackluster ball we had seen as Ainge made his exit.
We also would have a much different perception of Ainge if Hayward’s foot doesn’t fall off. That team was a very legit contender.
My general sense is that Ainge was 100% the right guy to build the foundation but Stevens is the right guy to pull it over the finish line. His moves so far just have a cold, ruthless efficiency to them.
I do wish we’d get to see Stevens’ drafting philosophy sometime but I am OK with this alternative, haha. Begarin coming over and being a legit 3 and D wing would be hilarious.

One of them just got traded for Daniel Theis and a late 1st. I think the pecking order is clear.

Agreed with this. It's ok to have a lot of good players. It makes it a lot easier when guys get dinged up. Give everyone lots of rest, and kick ass in the playoffs.
He'd be an amazing fit. I'm sure he's gettable, although a 1st feels steep.

Amazing trade. While it's possible this means someone is going out for a big piece I think they can fill in the gaps with role players and go into next season with an outstanding, deep roster.
Indeed. Especially because any backcourt combo of these three guys would play well together (generally not the case with point guards), or even potentially all three of them at the same time.

They have egos. It's part of the reason they're NBA players. They all think they're even better than they are.
Again, maybe Brogdon is thrilled to come off the bench. Maybe he actually thinks, oh guys will get hurt, I'll just start then.

FYI, Brogdon did an interview with The Athletic today and he made it sound as if he had a hand in choosing Boston as a destination
Didn't he and Jaylen protest together during summer 2020? I thought there was some connection with them.

I've been fine with watching Smart be the last man open after a good possession of ball movement, but it'll be much better when you've got Brogdon, Brown, Tatum and Horford out there at the same time. They have all logged multiple seasons around 40% on 3's, and they'll be looking at more open shots than ever.
Not many teams have the defenders to cover Jaylen, Brogdon, and Tatum if they're all on the floor at the same time. Multiple penetrations will yield tons of open shots.
And when the second unit comes in, you're looking at Smart-White-Grant-Gallo and maybe some Pritchard and Hauser. That's two guys who've started for a good chunk of their NBA careers, Grant, who would start in a lot of places, and Gallo, who should thrive in limited minutes. It's mind-boggling how good this roster looks.

Recency bias for sure but the Celtics are now the odds on favorite next year in most places I've checked.
I wouldn’t mess with Smart starting and being the lead PG. If this comes out organically because Brogdon is crushing it, then so be it, but I’d start with him on the second unit with White, etc. This team finally figured out its chemistry. Got to maintain that.
