Guess that can at least end the silly extension talk.Surely Verdugo was benched for something behind the scenes. The late scratch with no explanation and then not pinch hitting in the 9th… gotta be something disciplinary. Again.

Quite frankly we would have been better off with him rubbing one out in the parking lot than getting rubbed out on the base paths. Not the most embarrassing time McGuire’s been caught
Yes they hasDefense and baserunning has been so bad.
That’s what I saw tooIt looked like Febles was pointing back to second to me. I don’t think that was on him unless someone had a better angle.
He didn’t build a roster full of fucking idiots.Cora needs to go and I’ve always been a Cora guy.
at some point the terrible fundamentals are on the manager
Truer words were never posted. He didn’t build a roster full of fucking idiots.
He was def pointing back to second when McGuire was a third of the way down the 3rd base line. In the still pic McGuire's not yet at 3rd. Hard to tell from that pic if Febles was waving his arm or putting up the stop sign.Is he though? I saw the replay and I thought he was pointing back to 2nd??
He pinch hit for the best hitter on the team. He's having a really bad stretch. And his bullpen management? Beyond bad.He didn’t build a roster full of fucking idiots.
he doesn’t seem to be helpingHe didn’t build a roster full of fucking idiots.
I was fine with Ref up in that situation (2nd and 3rd, two out, down 1). He got hosed on a bad 1-0 strike call that changed the complexion of the at bat (and, I think, caused him to fish on strike 3).He pinch hit for the best hitter on the team. It’s professional baseball. It’s the GM’s job to build a roster. This isn’t the little league, players should know fundamentals at this level.he doesn’t seem to be helping
the fundamentals have been dogshit for a huge pct of Cora’s tenure
exactlyDoes this team seem like a bunch of abnormally noticable morons? Yes.
Is it the coach's job to make sure his team is ready to play? Also yes.
I mean, just in the last month, the triple play, Arroyo getting doubled off, Verdugo last night, this -- this just doesn't happen to major league baseball teams.
yeah and it’s the manager’s job to get them to play fundamentally sound. It’s a fucking table stakes thing to know how to run the goddam basesIt’s professional baseball. It’s the GM’s job to build a roster.
Player's manager for everyone but Verdugo .exactly
At some point, it’s on Cora. Maybe he’s too much of a player’s manager
Right. Basic baserunning isn’t rocket science. It’s stuff they’ve learned since before high school. It’s McGuire’s fault just as much as it is Febles. Basic baseball 101 is going halfway until you know it’s a hit. He’s scoring easily if it’s a hit.
Good. If he’s not enraged after that performance, then he definitely should be gone. I agree with his assessment, in terms of it being one of the worst performances since he took over.
We agree to disagree. You want Casas to be a stud? He needs to hit in those situations.I was fine with Ref up in that situation (2nd and 3rd, two out, down 1). He got hosed on a bad 1-0 strike call that changed the complexion of the at bat (and, I think, caused him to fish on strike 3).
He was doing this little twirly thing that looked to signal “come on, keep going” to me. It’d be a weird signal if it was meant to be “turn around.” Then once McGuire passes 3B, the ball lands in Keirmeir’s glove, and he points to second and yells for him to go back. Then kinda gives up on defeat. He was def pointing back to second when McGuire was a third of the way down the 3rd base line. In the still pic McGuire's not yet at 3rd. Hard to tell from that pic if Febles was waving his arm or putting up the stop sign.
They should know that at this level. Is Showalter going to fix Raffy being a disaster at third? Or was that the GM’s decision to invest in an iffy fielder?yeah and it’s the manager’s job to get them to play fundamentally sound. It’s a fucking table stakes thing to know how to run the goddam bases
He was warming up, Cora went with Jaques. Based on past instances, I assume the idea was Kenley would only pitch if it was tied or the Sox had a lead for him to blow.So why wasn't Kenley available today?
That Mookie Betts trade looks better and better.Verdugo ready to play but not available, per Cora. So, something like he was out to 4 AM last night?
Cora ran him out of town!!! Alternatively, it’s his fault for not developing Verdugo into Mookie!!!That Mookie Betts trade looks better and better.
Love Raffy, but worst defensive player I ever saw. Either DH or trade him so we can sign Ohtani. They should know that at this level. Is Showalter going to fix Raffy being a disaster at third? Or was that the GM’s decision to invest in an iffy fielder?
TBH I don't even care about that. It's the least of my concern's about this game. The order in which certain pitchers were used, not using Jansen at all and MAYBE PHing for Casas along with the team's continued shitty base running are all points of contention here.Verdugo ready to play but not available, per Cora. So, something like he was out to 4 AM last night?
You think Chaim had no input to Raffy’s contract and was overruled? What? This has just been a really frustrating season all around, and the only situation seems awfully predictable.
1. Chaim doesn't get to choose his manager, and by year 3 of this relationship, there is a massive disconnect in a lot of phases.
2. The fundamentals on this team are absolutely infuriating, and absolutely anti-Rays. I can't imagine that has nothing to do with Chaim not having input on his manager.
3. Raffy Devers is predictably looking like a concern because he cannot field his position and we've guaranteed him 325M over the next 10 years to a likely DH -- I can't imagine it was Bloom who wanted to commit to that contract, knowing full-well that Masa Yoshida is likely an ideal fit at DH as well. For as bad as Devers has been at 3B [-.5 dWAR by BREF], Yoshida has been even worse in LF [-1.1 DWAR].
4. Bloom sitting on his hands when marginal upgrades might have won 2 of the 3 games we've lost since the deadline is also absolutely infuriating.
