For those putting it mostly on Paxton: That inning should have been 2 runs at the most with competent infield D. Wong & Devers both messed up that other play too. You at least should have had a reasonable comeback chance.

There's a lot of an intense anger today about a six-game win streak possibly coming to an end

nah. Grand slams are pretty hard to stop with infield defense.

Hammer Kiké all you want, but that was a crap inning by Paxton. In fact, he’s out of the game? What?
I think Cora's given up on the game. You save Paxton's arm instead of making him take one for the team, as long as Scott can give you many innings.

Hernandez will stay in and continue to make almost-errors in hopes he will "start hitting" or figure it out.

But. . .always a chance Cora can burn some other bullpen arms! I mean, maybe you use a defensive replacement for your shit SS. . .stretch those Scott innings out or something.

Rodriguez throws 10 pitches. 4 innings to go.

Bullpen is technically: Bernardino, Jaques, Murphy, Pivetta, Walter, Winckowski, Martin, Jansen.

You have to think Pivetta, Murphy, Walter, and Winckowski are going to be held for the bullpen games? Plus Winckowski and Bernardino pitched yesterday.

So Jaques? Then Walter? or Murphy?

So I wasn't able to watch the 3rd inning and Paxton looked good in the first two. Did he lose the zone or what? He hasn't had a start like this in a long time, maybe all year, but it looks like just one crap inning.
Pretty much. The Keekay misplay didn't help, but Paxton still wasn't sharp. Combo of him having an off-day and the Red Sox due for a streak-breaker

Several innings of Jacques then sending him down & DFA'ing Scott to add Schreiber/Bleier makes sense.

ETA - didn't even realize Jacques was in when I posted this.

Are you talking about the SOSH posters or the SOX batters?
Stroman is pretty much a top-5 NL pitcher. An ace by any measure. He's at 91 pitches though, and is ready to come out, but may have one more inning in him.

I really don't get this game though.

If Cora was hoping to get at the Cubs in the later innings with a weak pitcher thrown in there to suck up some innings (5 down), why not Rodriguez first? Keep the score close and see if you get lucky with a kind of blitz of scoring. I mean, if you have to use Rodriguez anyway? (Because he knows Scott sucks and pitched last night.)

If punting, why not get a couple of more outs from Scott?

Thanks. What was the misplay? A non-error error?
And we all thought he was fixed at SS.

https://nesn.com/2023/07/red-soxs-alex-cora-praises-kike-hernandezs-defensive-improvement/

“I can say with confidence we turned the pitch a month ago,” manager Alex Cora told reporters at Wrigley Field before Saturday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, as seen on NESN’s pregame coverage. “He’s been playing really good shortstop for us for a month now. We move him around, but I’m very confident with him playing short. He found a few things that he was doing mechanically, and I think it’s paying off. I don’t have any issues with him playing shortstop (Saturday).”
Hernandez also had a botched tag, and airmailed a ball on a tough double play.

If you're going to try to sneak out an inning of Scott, the right handed hitting 8th & 9th & 1st hitters seems like the correct place for it. Unfortunately he's not good enough for that.

He is literally, bar-none, the shittiest pitcher on roster, hands down. The Turner at 2B, Hernandez at SS, Scott to keep a tie game close but not punt. . .it's all too fucking cute.
