Paxton obviously throwing the ball poorly, but the defense is such a big factor. Wong needs to catch that throw and even when Kike makes a nice stop, he literally can’t hold the ball.

Paxton was due for a clunker. Still sucks ass to have it happen though.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Seriously, this is the downside of Cora-loyalty. He has a solid SS in Chang. Hernandez is his buddy, so he "loyally" comes up with some "we found some footwork issues with Hernandez" excuse to get him playing time.

I think part of it comes from the fact that Cora was a fucking shitty hitter. Like an epicly shitty hitter. The whole second half of his career came from being a defensive sub for his moderate value there - but overall, there was really little reason to play the guy except as a stopgap.

But Cora's willing to pile up a few extra losses for the season on the off-chance Hernandez hits a little and gets a contract next year.

There are no official errors here, but Hernandez's failure to get out #2 probably had a cascade effect on Raffy feeling he had to nail the guy at home by a mile.

And now he throws it away.

Paxton walking the bases loaded (bottom of the order) with no outs did not help things

I know that's been the narrative, but a week or so ago Keekay sat for three days and Cora said that it was to give him a chance to have a nneded break to turn things around. When asked about Cora's statement, Keekay laughed it off in a "whatever, dude" fashion.
It's possible the relationship isn't as close as most people think

Feels like the pitch clock exacerbates those kind of innings. Pitcher can’t storm around the mound and kick the rosin bag. When the control goes, things snowball.

And did Chang need a day off, one day after coming back? If so (sore wrist?), using Hernandez at SS is understandable - if not, it simply isn't. The manager is making choices based on something else. Call it friendship or whatnot, but it's not an optimal choice.

Also, there's been reporting Reyes is ready to come back. So there's no real "need to develop a backup to rest Chang" argument. Especially not in a game against a tough pitcher where you don't want to give up any extra runs.

This is not the first time Enrique has broken the wrong way on a grounder (which should be unheard of for an infielder) this season. He's in a deep decline and probably done as a replacement level player in the majors.

Hammer Kiké all you want, but that was a crap inning by Paxton. In fact, he’s out of the game? What?
