A 1 run loss. This sure happens a lot.
14 different times the Red Sox have fought
tough till the end in a game that was taut,
only to find that it was all for naught.
Losing these close ones has been a real blot
in our season’s quest for a playoff slot.
We need to stay focused. Each game is fraught
with crucial moments that change the whole plot.
Pinch hitters and pitchers need to be brought
into the lineup in just the right spot.
Tough liners to first base need to be caught.
Or, are there changes that need to be sought?
There’s roughly a month to see what we’ve got.
Will old favs be sold? Will new stars be bought?
Will a blockbuster trade bring a jackpot,
or will we stand pat and do diddly-squat?
For now, I believe. We still have a shot.
We’re just 2 games out, so here’s today’s thought.
Win winnable games. That’s how we get hot.
Leave the fans dazzled instead of distraught.
Let’s start today and we’ll see what we’ve wrought.
