I was listening to MLB Radio the other day and they were talking about Keekay. The gist was that, in batting practice, he sprays the ball all over the field ... but when he comes to the plate in the game, it's as though he forgets all that and overswings.
One of the analysts, not sure who but a former player, said that Keekay's great run at the end of 2021 might have gotten in his head and he thinks he can be that player all the time.
Not that I buy that necessarily, but something's going on
The radio guys were talking about his batting practice sessions similarly one game. But their theory was that he’s a lot more free to focus on hitting when he’s playing the outfield, because he’s a lot more relaxed and comfortable out there.

Either way it's mental, which is 80% of half the game

I marvel at today's batters ability to react to that velocity. At 104 they have about .4 seconds to observe, orient, and act (a variation of the military OODA loop). And the act itself is relatively time consuming.

I honestly can't wrap my brain around how anyone can hit a baseball thrown by modern pitchers.

Freddie was an absolute beast on a HoF track. I'm glad he's doing well, but I wish he had stayed healthy and done so at Fenway.
