Don't get me wrong, collectively they were kick ass and had a special bond. Take that lineup from Napoli down and replace Bogaerts ( just 18 games) with the team's primary 3B Middlebrooks. Also to be fair give Salty the nod over Ross and there is nothing awe inspiring about this guys as players. I think that's part of what makes this team so great.
It did help that they struck lightning in a bottle with some players they brought in. Shane Victorino had a career best BWAR of 6.0; Napoli a second best in his career of 3.7; Koji a 3.5, almost double his previous best. Mike Carp had almost all of his career BWAR in 2013, 1.5 out of 1.9. What a haul these guys were, and there were others.

That inning epitomizes baseball disappointment to me: two guys on, your best hitter up, out on a DP, then a fly-out. You get your hopes up and then nothing. It is odd to me that we keep on watching this game, always waiting for the times that our hopes are fulfilled. I know there's nothing new in what I'm saying, just expressing my own sense of oddity at this moment.

Now that I've got the Savant Gamecast open, I can share that Ohtani's groundball there was the second hardest at 105.9.

Seems run of the mill for a game where the best of the best fail seven out of ten times.

Exactly and that's what gives me hope for this team as they inch toward .500 in this the16th game of the season. Let Yoshida, Turner, Verdugo and Wong catch some of that lightning. Let a healthy Story, Mondesi and Duvall contribute in the second half of the season.

Kenley Jansen has made quite a few 2, even 3 inning saves in his career, but I doubt Cora goes that route this early in the overall scheme. Did hear Bleier's name on the broadcast. Oh no.
