From that awkward shot in the bunker to a 5-footer two shots later is nothing to sneeze at.

Didn't love his chances against Bryson and the bullshit horseshoe he was riding in the playoffs.

Morikawa seemed genuinely happy for him
Yep. I wonder how much conversation happens during the round. Like, when Xander hit a good shot, did Morikawa say something like, "Great shot, Xander", or did he just do his own thing? Or when they were talking about who would pitch onto the green first, did Collin say, "Come on, knock this one stiff."?

Xander has been in the hunt so many times. Rooting for him all the way. Glad to see him break through. Won’t be the last one he wins.

Happy for Xander. I think he somewhat unfairly got a reputation as a Sunday choker because he didn’t have as many tour wins as his peers in the world rankings, as many of his biggest wins aren’t recognized by the tour (i.e. Olympics, Tour Championship gross). Winning this event puts that all to rest.

I think very little. Xander, especially, has a reputation of being in his bubble during a round.

What an amazing day of golf. So glad for Xander.

I don't like DeChambeau, but I've got to admit he played great. I've also got to admit I'm glad he got a set of steak knives instead of the Wanamker Trophy. :)

DeChambeau sank a nice put but a bit of decorum for Hovland's put would have been nice. It's not the Ryder Cup.
I just rewatched Hovland putting on 18 and I have no idea what you are referring to.

DeChambeau celebrated after he made the putt, but it was nothing out of the ordinary and he settled down quickly. By the time Hovland went into his routine, DeChambeau was standing quietly off to the side and the crowd was respectful.

I should add that I have nothing but contempt for DeChambeau. I just didn’t see him do anything wrong on 18 yesterday.

Got nothing against Bryson. Seems like a nice guy. Intense on the course, which is fine. Just my 2 cents, to me Hovland seemed off his game that last put. He 3 putted the hole. Not a big thing in the grand scheme of things, just something that stuck in my craw.

Once he missed the birdie putt, he knew the next putt didn’t matter (wasn’t winning and had third locked up).

Didn't see a ton yesterday but my overall takeaway from the week is that Valhalla stinks. Cool name, abysmal golf course for a major championship.

Its just not good enough to host majors. Or the PGA is incapable of setting it up in a way that is interesting. The two defining features, the island green and weird horseshoe 18th green, are basically gimmicks... the rest of the holes are entirely forgettable... maybe a Nicklaus design isn't really a sign of awesomeness. I guess he got Muirfield right but it also took him decades of tweaking it to get it there.

I think this is a great example of a course whose main defense was its length and that doesn’t matter anymore.

I don't know if this post fits more here or in the general PGA thread, but there's a video of Scottie's encounter with the cops out now.

And shocker, it's not at all like what the cops described

Is Damaged Pants the loser on the driver side? Or am I missing something on the passenger side?

Thdriver side guy never hit the deck. Ran and knocked on the window and Scottie immediately stopped? But his pants were ruined and he suffered swelling and abraisons?

Absolutely a felony.

I was expecting something like this…but not this bad. Wow, what a lying, dirty cop.

Wow that's amazing. The cop should be fired for making stuff up. Scheffler should consider filing some sort of lawsuit (he won't, but he should) because these people need to be held accountable for this. This isn't the biggest deal in the world, but imagine how often they do this kind of stuff to people who aren't famous and don't have the kind of resources Scheffler does?

This thing will get thrown out of court in about five seconds as soon as the judge sees this video.

Looks like this cop has given himself many chances to get fired, still hasn't happened.

Apparently the Louisville mayor released the video in an attempt to back the police? What in the world?
Golf Channel televised his press conference yesterday and he kept mentioning how both he and Scheffler wanted to put this behind them.

Maybe he's not a good public speaker but he wasn't exactly speaking with confidence that they had a smoking gun.

I assume that the Louisville prosecutors will just decline to prosecute Scheffler . This is a complete joke.

The problem is that when this happens to a regular person, their life could be ruined. Most people would have to take a plea for a felony charge and no jail time. But now they have a record and had to pay legal costs. And if they don't have resources, it could legitimately end up with a jail sentence.

And these types of incidents happen 100s of times a day.

So anyway the police report for the incident is fabricated bullshit, huh?
The reporting on this is pretty bad. My understanding is that the alleged dragging took place before what you can see on the cameras. The police report says it occurred on the major road before the turn.

So, I think what the detective is claiming is that he instructed Scheffler to stop, that Scheffler violated that instruction and dragged him, and then tried to enter the course driveway, at which point the cop ran after him and he was arrested.

I think that's why there is a disconnect between the PD saying that the fixed pole and dashcam images do not show the incident and nothing significant appearing on the video.

This post is not meant to endorse a belief about anyone's story, but instead to try to explain that I think people have been talking past each other.

But if the cop was dragged before the turn, everyone around would have been converging on Scottie's car. With pace. It would have been a scene.

But everyone you can see in the video is just standing around, chilling out, and it was decidedly not a scene. Until the cop goes running to Scottie's car and smacks the windshield.

I wasnt arguing for the cop. I know who I believe. I was just noting the video is not a direct visual exoneration or refutation of the incident report the way the twitters suggest. You need to draw some inferences. If they move forward — I hope they quietly go away — their story will be the “incident” was earlier.

Charges dropped, agreement that there will be no further legal action regarding that day.

(what about us loser golf fans who may have been denied a legitimate grand slam chase!)

The fact that a stipulation was added that “neither side” will pursue charges seems to indicate that the LPD felt there was real risk that they could be at risk for liability here.

The release of the video of Scottie’s conversation was pretty bad. It was completely consistent with his explanation and while he may have made a mistake/misunderstanding there is no way it should have led to an arrest.

Scottie just wants this to go away. It makes sense for him. It sort of sucks because this police department really deserves to be exposed as much as possible. They're bad, really bad.

Anyway, here's the video footage of Scottie in the back of the police cart talking to the police:

https://x.com/NUCLRGOLF/status/1795798545124970910

Seems entirely reasonable to think he had no idea a police officer was telling him to stop, or that he was even a police officer. And the other cop is doing everything possible to get him to say something stupid. Booooooo.

Edit: I have no idea why that won't embed. Twitter is the worst.
