2nd major of the year.

Scottie is the favorite and word is the baby has arrived. He has not played since the RBC 3 weeks ago but has won 4 of his last 5 starts. Rory is technically coming off back-to-back wins himself, albeit one was a team event with Shane Lowry. Valhalla is also the site of his most recent major victory, though a decade ago. Defending champ Brook Koepka apparently apologized to his team after a poor Masters and then went out and won his most recent LIV event so he'll certainly be a huge storyline. Tiger is in the field this week.

Valhalla always seems to favor the big hitters. DeChambeau should be in the mix for sure.

I get that I’m not the target, but the coverage on ESPN Bet (for an hour before the main coverage starts on ESPN) is the most atrocious thing I’ve ever seen/heard.

Xamder about to tie (or break if he makes another birdie) his own major championship record of 62.

We'll see if this is another jump-out-to-lead-then-fade weeks or if he can actually get it done.

DJ's last 3 majors:

2023 Open: 74-81 MC
2024 Masters: 78-79 MC
2024 PGA: +2 through 16

Has the DGAF set in? He did have a T10 at the US Open last year but this is ugly.

“Breaking News: World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has been detained by police in handcuffs after a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club. The police officer attempted to attach himself to Scheffler’s car, and Scheffler then stopped his vehicle at the entrance to Valhalla. The police officer then began to scream at Scheffler to get out of the car. When Scheffler exited the vehicle, the officer shoved Scheffler against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs. He is now being detained in the back of a police car.”

Watching ESPN right now and there’s video of him being put in the back of the police car. Scheffler is supposed to tee off before 9am.

Apparently there was a car accident near the entrance and Scheffler ignored the cops when he tried to use the opposite side of the road to bypass the traffic to get to the course.

Apparently a pedestrian was hit and killed by a bus just outside the entrance to the club so traffic was being rerouted and Scheffler was ignoring instructions on where to go. The reaction by the cop probably was over the top but it appears Scheffler was not doing the correct thing.

Yup. And sounds like he was trying to use a side median, was asked to stop by an officer, and tried to keep going.

The start of the tournament is delayed at least an hour due to the accident. Apparently no one is even warming up at the range since the traffic is so backed up getting to the course.

Play will begin after a 1hr 20 minute delay. 8:35am ET. Sounds like other players did the same thing that Scheffler did with no issues whatsoever. Apparently some players walked over a mile before hitching a ride on a golf cart. What a shitshow.

Certainly a "do you know who I am?" move, but have to say it is understandable. Scottie is probably thinking this is just a security situation where the public is backed up heading in, and let me go around to the players' entrance. With all the players on tour I'm surprised I don't recall any other instances offhand especially where lower-level/average-Joe type players have crazy emotions and do something stupid driving to the course during their myopia.

Mike Greenberg on ESPN just said that Scheffler is still in custody. Haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere.

There was no way he was going to miss his tee time once the right people got on the phones. No idea what is meant by "attempted to attach himself to Scheffler's car" means but he'll mail in a check after the tourney and it will be done.

That being said, I'm sure his whole pre-round routine has been fucked.

Morons. I'm sure this police department in Bumblefuck, KY is 100% prepared to be under a national microscope for the weekend and foreseeable future. Ready the popcorn.
Unfortunately, the Louisville PD has been under the national microscope before…

Second degree assault of a police officer? For rolling through a traffic stop and having a cop jump on your car? What are we doing?

An honest question: would grabbing a door handle or jumping on a moving vehicle be SOP for a cop in that or any similar situation?
Cops sometimes do weird things in regards to vehicular movement. I saw a clip where a driver went through an intersection after he thought a cop had waved him through, the cop thought he had held him, and as the driver went by the cop kicked the car and broke his own leg. The driver was arrested and charged with vehicular assault but the incident was captured on dashcam by another driver so charges were dropped.

I'm sure Officer Selfharm's report of the incident accurately reflected his actions... right?

I could see trying to open the door and pull him out or whatever to keep him from continuing onward which sounds like what might have happened. If Scottie continued moving forward and the cop gets tripped up, that's where the assault came from.

I don't think jumping on a moving vehicle happens unless you're watching a tv show/movie.
