2023 Broncos: Payton’s Place

I do enjoy him blaming the current GM as well (and throwing shade on the Jets) ...and its totally everybody elses fault for allowing Russ' team in the building. Nothing to do with Russ...

“That wasn’t his fault,” Payton said. “That was the parents who allowed it. That’s not an incrimination on him, but an incrimination on the head coach, the G.M., the president and everybody else who watched it all happen.”
“It doesn’t happen often where an NFL team or organization gets embarrassed,” Payton told Bell. “And that happened here. Part of it was their own fault, relative to spending so much fucking time trying to win the offseason — the P.R., the pomp and circumstance, marching people around and all this stuff.”
“We’re not doing any of that,” Payton said. “The Jets did that this year. You watch. Hard Knocks, all of it. I can see it coming.”
I do think he is a 100% correct about the pomp and circumstance...but I don't think you need to say it out loud.

Wow, that is quite the read. The presnap penalty rate was a disgrace, almost 2022 Pats offense-like.

Usually, the coach-speak is only talk about the future. Paton clearly does not like Rodgers, Hackett, and possibly his own GM.

I'm really disappointed Payton didn't end up in Dallas. I'd have loved to have seen the Sean and Jerry show.

It’s a terrible look, petty and unnecessary. He looks like an ass and it does no one anyone good. From all reports the Jets didn’t even want to do Hard Knocks and it was delayed due to it.

Id also say for Belichick how he acts is a terrible look, unnecessary and petty on how he treats the media, but he’s on the other side of the asshole spectrum.

You're reading too much into it. It's boilerplate: deflect the blame to the guy that's no longer here and minimize the blame on the guy(s) you still have to work with.
Those quotes are not at all boilerplate. Coaches like to deflect blame but very rare to call out another current coach like that. I do wonder if there is some history here (or Payton is a bit unhinged?).

This is not the typical way a current coach talks about a previous coach. Oddly aggressive.

Yeah, and apparently he also had a coordinated media response from all these people:

He's apologized now, but it's really weird and would make me really uncomfortable were I a fan. Sorry, @j-man ...

Payton’s not wrong; Hackett was completely in over his head.
Of course he isn’t and Hackett wasn’t. But it’s not clear what shitting on a failed first year coach as his successor accomplishes beyond showing you to be petty and possibly insecure.

The only time I remember Belichick doing anything like this at all was when he laid into Charlie Casserly – but that was directed at a former rival with Washington who had parlayed his experience into a media gig sharing uninformed opinions.

Edit: I mean, of course Hackett *was* in over his head.

if NYJ is not careful could be 0-4 for that Week 5 game Buff 50-50 at best Dal their best shot at a win in the first 4 weeks NE they always play Jets well and KC plob will be looking ahead to denver

while denver mostly always starts off well most likely will be 3-1 going into the Jet game
The schedule is very hard. We played Buffalo well last year and if we cannot beat NE we are probably not doing shit this year. I don’t have a read on what Dallas will do on offense. Chiefs are the Chiefs.

That sucks. I love him. And now his career is probably over. Two season ending injuries back to back.
yes he was a taller rod smith just a freak happenstance the only good thing is WR is the deepest spot on the team but i hate it for him a team first guy if he wants to play wouild be a good fit on a team like SF or MIA for 2023

15-9 is such a small sample size. I wouldn't look too much into it, personally.
Especially because last year, they beat the Texans (barely) and squeaked by the Niners (the game after Lance had his ankle demolished) by 1 point and in 2021, they beat the Giants, the Jets, and the Jags in the first 3 games of the seasons. Wins are good but in 2021, beating the NY teams or the Jags wasn't anything special.

That's a 5-1 record that doesn't match the team.

But they do get out of the gate pretty well, except for 19 and 20. Let's see what Payton can do this year for the full four months.

I'm surprised you feel this way.

When the Broncos won in 2015, 50% of the cap went to 7 players (Manning, D. Thomas, Clady, Von Miller, Ware, Talib, Ward).

Why do you feel their depth is more important this year?

we have a rash of INJ in the last 2 seasons esp last year where it seem every game was started by a 4th sting LB or CB at times last season we was on our 5th rb i think if denver can be largey inj-free they are a 9-10 win team

i watched 90% of last night game here is what i saw good and bad

the good this is a top 5 Def if everyone stays healthy no-one got hurt on that turf in Arizona which is as bad as the old vet in philly

the bad idk about Wilson he got popped 3-4 times last night he looks like drew brees in his final 2-3 seasons the o-line up the middle is not great my bigest beef with last night game is sean petyon clock mangent i know he did not trust the K and that fair but arizona let denver score with 1 30 left to take a 17-10 lead which in theory u take the touchdown but arirona had 2 timeouts had payton kneeled 3 times instead of 1 30 left there is 45 sec left which lower the chances of them tieing from 30% to 5%
they scored went for two and won it was a great football game to watch if u are not a broncos fan

the awfulness at K has me thinking from 10-7 to 8-9 denver will be better than last season but they are likely stuck with wilson utill 2026 wilson is not a pocket guy and he is afraid to run as much as he did with Seattle its kindia like we are New england west expect M Jones is much cheaper

i watched every play last night

the good wilson looked like his last 2 games last season OL was better denver front 7 has promisse
the bad denver needs to learn how to close out games is the last 5 min the CB are line up 10 yard benind a lot we cannot get 3rd down stops

Just saw this @j-man . Not good...
Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was carted off the practice field during a joint practice with the Rams on Thursday with an apparent leg injury. Here’s what you need to know:

The injury occurred on a run play and it appeared to be non-contact.

Broncos WRs are having a tough training camp. That sucks and what happened to Patrick sucks, too.

Bring on the Big D, Greg Dulcich.

I think you're six wins short. There are 272 games, you have 266 wins.
You know Sal kept getting on his owns guys as well as Simmons about this and at first blush I do not think it is an accurate criticism. It should balance if the goal is to get every single team correct but if you understand that you will not get every call correct I’m not sure why it needs to balance. I’m open to thinking about it more.

(Basically, I'm agreeing with you that it doesn't have to balance)
Predicting full season win and loss records before the season is a pretty useless exercise. So many things change, what you think in August won't have any bearing on how things look in December.

I think it's cool to try to guess the division winners and the playoff teams, but predicting every team's record is both impossible and has no utility.

the game today was good and bad but at the start of the game peyton goes for the onside kick and give vegas 3 pts a team like denver every mistake is magifried

the good wilson looks better played a clean game
got 2 good RB'S
we will ball cont this year

the bad way too many littie mitakes dorrest catch and run lutz missing 4 pts jackson late hit on meyes

all in all denver is most likely a 8-win team that will get on a last season run for 2024

today loss was 2x worse denver off seems ok ex for the pass blk its the def that cant make a 3rd down stop

denver season is over and u can say they are just 0-2 but other than CHI in week 4 they have a talent disadv with 8 of their next 9 opp denver is looking at a 3-8 4-7 start and most likely 6-11 or 7-10

It’s criminal Sean Peyton is coaching the corpse of Russell Wilson and not Justin Herbert, what a freaking whiff by the chargers. Sorry j-man, I just do not see this team getting better with Wilson as qb.

denver plob needs a rebuild but idk if peyton ego will allow that

denver needs to trade S Justin simmons can get a 2nd and 3rd for him and garret bolies can get at least a 3rd for him

on wilson can denver eat 85 mill over 2 years idk denver plob needs to draft a QB early in next year draft because if denver does not cut him this offseason we are stuick with utill the 2026 offseason

That Wilson contract is so horrifically bad, I don’t know how it doesn’t kill the team for the next couple years.

denver is in cap hell for 2024 but after that they have 111 mil in room in 2025 the best for allinloved is to see if the rams would take him in the offseason because 1 he wouild play seattle 2x a year 2 he wouild fit better in mcbay off 3 that the only team he would agree to go to he likes the west coast
