I talked about this before - Harbaugh was always getting a new deal. The problem (from his perspective) is that a new deal would preclude a move to the NFL any time soon because his buyout will be significant. (It was virtually nothing after last year) So if he wanted to explore it, this was the year.Manuel wrote a big check. Well done Jim.
Really curious if he rebuffed Raiders or Davis never had any interest.I talked about this before - Harbaugh was always getting a new deal. Michigan presented him with a new contract that apparently gave him everything he asked for a month ago. They have been waiting to see if he was going to sign it or go to the NFL.
The point is that he wasn’t looking at the NFL for leverage. There just wasn’t a fit. (At least not with the Vikings.)
2nd Brady backup to become a head coach.
From honorary Jets captain to head coach of an NFL team!2nd Brady backup to become a head coach.
There was nothing honorary about it. They named him a legit captain that game. From honorary Jets captain to head coach of an NFL team!
And look who he gets to coach against twice a year... (for now, at least)
RiveraIs the NFL going to have one minority head coach in the entire league in Tomlin or am I missing someone? Wow.
If Khan hired O'Brien, giving him some control of personnel, having already had Baalke, would a rift have opened up in the field in Jacksonville and 200 foot high flames come pouring out? Because that would have to be the worst combo of management in the history of sports. The Jaguars interviewed nine other candidates: Jaguars interim head coach Darrell Bevell, Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, Green Bay offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, Indianapolis defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, former Indianapolis and Detroit head coach Jim Caldwell, Dallas offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, former Las Vegas interim head coach Rich Bisaccia, and Alabama offensive coordinator and former Houston head coach Bill O'Brien.

Wow! An actual click-bait post.Mitch Albom caught up with Jim Harbaugh at a hotel in Minneapolis:

Basically that Harbaugh is committed to Michigan and that he was totally transparent with his team and U of M throughout the process. Winning a Super Bowl is something that “tugged” at him . He won’t be looking at the NFL again as long as Michigan wants him. What was the gist of the conversation for those of us not willing or inclined to read the entire thing?
I’ve watched a lot of Wentz games living in Eagles country and aside from his MVP caliber play before he got hurt in ‘17, he’s been a very frustrating player to watch. His comp is probably Romo, with a lot of the same issues in clutch situations/4thQ.I have no problem with that Doug Peterson hire as he helped develop Wentz and has a super bowl but man it’s likely going to be 0 for 9 on minority hires this off-season and that really isn’t good for the NFL.
This feels unfair to Romo. Career numbers are far better. Career rating 97.1 and 7.03 ANY/A to 90.1 and 5.98. And Wentz plays in a better passing environmentI’ve watched a lot of Wentz games living in Eagles country and aside from his MVP caliber play before he got hurt in ‘17, he’s been a very frustrating player to watch. Got anything more than this to add? We've been told game thread style postings aren't what we're looking for.Have they run out of white guys to hire, yet?
Niners currently have a bi-racial OC, black DC, black assistant head coach and recently developed the first Lebanese Muslim head coach (Saleh).Niners just hired Anthony Lynn as assistant head coach. Rumor is he’ll design the running game with Lance at the helm.
I bring this up as it’s a possible indicator that coach McD might be heading out…
Thats a good spot for him. The Raiders defense is a lot better than the Giants.Raiders lured Patrick Graham from NYG to take over as DC.
He will be free so why not.Joe Judge for Raiders ST a fit?
This is twice now he’s made a lateral move of DC to DC. Pretty unusual.Raiders lured Patrick Graham from NYG to take over as DC.
Yes but I can see why he did it. The Raiders defense has more talent than the Giants and is coming off the playoffs. This is twice now he’s made a lateral move of DC to DC. Pretty unusual.
Maybe he wanted no part of the NYG mess and , having worked with Josh before, things just lined up well for a positive moveThis is twice now he’s made a lateral move of DC to DC. Pretty unusual.
The Niners also had an openly LBGT female assistant coach for a few years (Katie Sowers).Niners currently have a bi-racial OC, black DC, black assistant head coach and recently developed the first Lebanese Muslim head coach (Saleh).
Shanahan does at least seem to be using his nepotism privilege for good.
I’m starting to get that sense, yeah.Anyone else getting the sense that there may be something to the Brian Flores issues in Miami? Like Ross is telling other owners how bad it was? It seems odd to me that he hasnt been hired yet, or even really linked with anything other than Houston.
The things that were leaked about Flores are pretty concerning if you’re looking to hire a head coach that will play nicely with everyone in house.I’m starting to get that sense, yeah.
I don’t think anyone disagrees with the bolded, but the stories being leaked about him (which you mentioned) are inexorably linked to the reasons behind the suit itself.Of course, this was all before he filed a suit against the league and made some very serious allegations. He may have managed to scare off the rest of his suitors on his own by doing that.
Decent with the Bears, terrible with the Bucs and brutal at the University of Illinois. Never thought he would get another NFL head coaching gig.
I can’t remember the particulars of his TB stint, but he improved by 4 wins from year 1 to year 2 then got canned, which on its surface appears to be another data point in the “black coaches don’t get the same chances” argument. Again I don’t remember how or why they were so bad his first year so it’s possible the firing was justified, but they improved a lot year 1 to year 2.Decent with the Bears, terrible with the Bucs and brutal at the University of Illinois. They drafted Jameis Winston in between his first and second year so that was the bump. It’s interesting because Jason Licht hired Lovie Smith and then fired him after year 2 for Dirk Koetter.I can’t remember the particulars of his TB stint, but he improved by 4 wins from year 1 to year 2 then got canned, which on its surface appears to be another data point in the “black coaches don’t get the same chances” argument. Oh that’s right they were worried about losing Koetter IIRC so they fired Lovie to prevent that. They drafted Jameis Winston in between his first and second year so that was the bump. It’s interesting because Jason Licht hired Lovie Smith and then fired him after year 2 for Dirk Koetter.
