McIlory for sure

5 yards is the legal limit for pin location in relation to the edge of the green, so I'm now sure how they're getting away with 3 and 4 yards.

9 greens with 5 or less...
There is no "legal limit." The USGA publishes suggestions for clubs, but they aren't rules, and they certainly don't imposes any restrictions on the national championship.

Rule 16
Requirements for Hole Location on the Putting Green
Q.What are the requirements for establishing a hole location on the putting green?

A.The USGA frequently receives requests for guidelines with respect to selection of hole locations on the putting greens, particularly during competitions. There are no rules regarding hole locations, so there is no such thing as an "illegal" hole location.

Ridiculous. Kokrak then putts it back up on his 2nd shot, and got to about 5 feet short of the hole, and it rolled all the way back down. Like I said, this isn't a pin cut just on the front edge of the green. It's about 35 feet onto the green, and if you don't get it inside 5 feet, you can't keep it on the green.

Could make for a long day, which is great when the guy in first has a 4 shot lead. War of attrition.

Koepka is lighting it up. Just made eagle from the fairway on 10, to get to -5 for the round. Wish we could see more of Rob, other than when he's giving Koepka a high five. LOL. Rob at +3 at the turn.

Holy shit, Koepka just holed a chip at 11 for birdie, with Rob looking on. -6 on the round, E for the torunament.

Koepka has a legit shot at having he greatest round in Major history.
Especially amazing as he started +2 over the first 3. Heck if he can post 62, he might want to cancel his travel plans. -2 may not win this thing, but I wouldn't bet against it

Ugh and he leaves on on the rim on 13

It's important we get to see Spieth make that putt to bring him within 15 strokes of the lead

DJ is wonderful. Monster drive, unbelievable shot. Then the approach is kind of lousy, now he's got 6-7 feet for par.

Now DJ with the perfect drive on 2 and he'll have an eagle putt

They are talking trees again. I must admit it is very hard for me to imagine playing this course with 15K trees on it

DJ is going to just pound the driver all day. Because why the fuck not. If he's going to go down, go down doing what he does best.

Greens are diabolical. This is going to get ugly.

And there goes Lowry's ball down on 2. Can't see the advantage to laying up there. If you can get it up within 20-30 yards of the green in 1, you've got to do that.

It's arguably the best club in his bag, He might as well use it for every advantage he can get

100% agreed. All week, that hole has been about a half a stroke better for the players going for it versus the players laying up. There isn't a huge penalty in going for it. But look at Lowry. Didn't go for it and now he's looking at a bogey on a 300 yard hole. Which is colossal.

Or maybe a double for Landry. GJGE there Landry. Smart play. Good play. The right play. This way, you can just sleep walk through the rest of the round and not have to think about winning.

He's 5 shots behind. He's not going to win by not going for birdies.
I don't disagree, but then again, if you don't think you can clear the danger, then you can't. Now giving the disaster of his second shot and everything after that, I am sure he probably wishes he went for it

He almost parred the hole. I would have looked dumb there.

I hear that, but it was a 295 yard up hill to carry that bunker. I don't know if he has that kind of length. DJ and Day, the longest hitters, barely reached the fringe. If he did carry the bunker he isn't getting up that false front anyways. Left and right of the bunker is rough/green side bunkers that are no gimme up and down's.

He screwed it up now anyways.

Jason Day looks like he has Phil Nippleson capability if he happens to gain 20-30 lbs. The chest looks like its got droopy potential.

Exactly, most par 4's of that length have a really tough second shot if you miss around the green. Here there doesn't appear to be any real penalty, they play a shot just like if they missed the green in regulation. The 100 yard shot with spin is the shot you want to avoid on that hole. It pulls back down the front and then you've got the delicate chip. Horrible strategy to lay up and I've only seen Westwood and Lowry pull it back. Thanks for that stat.

Shane Lowery looks like he just popped into golf from the early 1990's. The players are so fit now. Lowery has to have 50 pounds on almost everyone in the field

Landry saved by the pin at #3, might allow him to stay televised for couple more.

Ooh boy we get to see Spieth try to cut the lead to 13 shots

Spieth is the most famous American golfer at present. It's not a shock they are showing his putts.
And it was annoying, frustrating and stupid when they did it with Tiger, and it is absolutely the same with Spieth. There are guys in the top 10 we have barely seen if at all
