Difference may come down to putting inside of 3 feet. Lowry, as ridiculous as it sounds, is much better on 2-3 footers.

That putt DJ had was difficult. Moved a bunch and you've got to baby it because its downhill. Still, he's had 3-4 100 yard wedges and he's only had one decent putt for birdie.

There is no "legal limit." The USGA publishes suggestions for clubs, but they aren't rules, and they certainly don't imposes any restrictions on the national championship.

Rule 16
Requirements for Hole Location on the Putting Green
Q.What are the requirements for establishing a hole location on the putting green?

A.The USGA frequently receives requests for guidelines with respect to selection of hole locations on the putting greens, particularly during competitions. There are no rules regarding hole locations, so there is no such thing as an "illegal" hole location.
Good to know. My club regularly quotes the 5 yard rule, so I trusted them. I'm not sure I want to tell them otherwise, we have really difficult greens.

Yeah, really happy for Rob today. Right now, he's sitting in 41st, but I suspect it might get a little better as the day wears on. Just sent him a text to say congrats and what not. Very cool.

Anyway Furyk can get just one more coming in. -2 would still be a very interesting score.

Man its going to be a fun back nine. If Furyk can post at -2, it gives DJ and Lowry about one bad hole as a cushion. Tons of guys within a few strokes of -2 either way with holes to play.

Why am I feeling like Furyk hit his second shot about 3 minutes ago?

Probably more like 6 minutes ago as they never showed it and instead we see a poor 3rd shot

I don't mind this as much as they are at least talking golf, and Jack is making some points.

Furyk posts -1. I just don't think that is enough

Pretty amazing result considering that mind numbing 41 on the front 9 yesterday

DJ getting very lucky after the miserable tee shot. Kind of want to see him take a bogey here because he deserves one

Dj gets a huge break on his lie. Then he hits over the tower anyway and hits a pretty lousy shot. Gets a break, does nothing with it.

Well if you believe the announcers, he was dead where he was and would likely have had to play out into the fairway, so while it wasn't a good shot, he seems much better off than had he played where it lied

25' under the hole from the wrong fairway is better than pretty lousy. Your approach angle is compromised to a degree from the other fairway.

Jack was spot on. For good players majors are easier to win because so many play their own way out of it. Having said that we're likely looking at a first time major winner today regardless.

Was not hard to predict that Lowry (or Landry, for that matter) would shit the bed.

Hard to win without going through the fire one or two times.

Meanwhile, Jason Day is awakening.

Is Sergio at the top of "best player to never win a major" list?
Westwood has the most Top 3 finishes in majors, at 9. Sergio has 6. So it's either or.

edit - it's probably Dustin Johnson, though. He's one of the few players in the history of the sport to win a PGA tourney in his first 8 years.
