They are dancing in the streets with joy in Indianapolis.
When you're a Colts fan you have to take the victory celebrations where you can find them.

I'll take a wild-ass guess as to the 10 members. I think this will work with the eligibility rules, but I find them pretty confusing (http://www.cincyjungle.com/2015/9/4/9231277/nfl-practice-squad-2015-rules-eligibility-salary-size):

Ryan Lindley
Ryan Groy
Chris Martin
Zach Moore
Xzavier Dickson
Darius Fleming
Asante Cleveland
Justin Coleman
some receiver, maybe D'Orazio but more likely from someplace else
some RB only three people on SoSH have ever heard of

Edit: tense agreement

I'm assuming you're joking.

For those who are actually making this claim, you don't get 14,300 yards in the NFL if you're gutless or soft.

If Zolak is correct and I think he has pretty damn good sources basically asking for your release because you think the work environment is too tough shows to me you are gutless player.

Yeah Lindley seemed like an available warm body don't think they'll have him on the practice squad

Love Harper making the team. Would be great if he can produce. Looked good at times in the preseason on two teams.

@ItsChrisHarper: Happiest man in the world. Extremely blessed. ❤

I'm not sure if your original post is sarcasm or not. He has a track record of playing 15+ games in a season in 12 of the 14 seasons he's been in the league. He's lasted 14 years in the league and has gone over the middle. if you google his name and "soft" you get nothing. I don't care what a former backup quarterback says about him, or the fact that a journeyman safety (and I'm pretty sure I ordered my custom made Eugene Wilson jersey after the hit in the image you're posting) laid him out. He's not a gutless soft player.

Great post.  Reggie Wayne may have nothing left but anyone calling him gutless is wrong.  He played 14 seasons in the NFL - that instantly qualifies him as one of the toughest individuals any of us have ever heard about.

Well, shit. Morten Anderson played 25. That basically makes him like the Hulk or something, right?

The Pats decided to cut Wayne, probably because they saw that he has nothing left. They told him that they would make a statement that was very complimentary of him ("one of thr greatest receivers of the past 20 years") and that indicated that the parting was mutual. They did. Wayne spun it that he asked out and slung some shit on the way out out of frustration.

IOW, I think this decision was entirely that of the Pats.

Gray was a binkie of mine. I'll go on record as saying he'll be one of the few Belichick cuts to be productive somewhere else.

IMO, a healthy running game is important in extending Brady's career. I feel Gray makes our running game better, but hey, I'm not in the meeting rooms.

In BIll we trust, but I don't think he's infallible. We'll soon find out. I'll be watching both Blount and Gray closely this season.

What was the story with Gray? On paper, he looked productive. Was he a locker room problem? Was he using his drone to video Giselle topless at her pool?

For starters he sucks at football.  He can't play special teams, can't play in the passing game, and while he's ok rushing the ball he's nothing special.

You basically just described blount to a tee only he is older, more expensive and has a strike against him.

I'm guessing it was more off field than on with Gray. The rumblings are coming out that he wasn't the hardest worker.

Even granting everything you wrote as fact, Blount is a lot better at running the football than Gray.

Re Wayne... I think it was clear that he would be nothing other than the 4th or 5th WR with the Patriots (assuming LaFell returns from PUP).

In Year 15 with a notoriously challenging system to learn, going back to Square One and cramming/fighting/scrapping for 10-15 snaps a game probably wouldn't be a ton of fun, even if you're playing with the GOAT and greatest HC of the modern era.  So I can't say I blame him, but he's definitely not soft.

Zolak's quote helps to perpetuate the mentally soft, choke-when-it-matters, participation banner culture of the Colts, if anything.  It's a disservice to paint Wayne with that brush, which is why Coach Bill tried to head that off at the pass with his statement.

I think the only way Wayne comes back is for a playoff contender in a similar system to the Colts, with some assurances that he'd be used like a 1 or a 2.  I don't know if GB runs a similar system or not, but that seems like a logical spot with a WR need.  I don't see a fit anywhere else given current circumstances other than maybe Arizona (Arians connection, veteran QB, play opposite Fitz).

There may also have been a deal in which Reggie gave back some of the money in exchange for being released on friendly terms.

@DougKyedNESN After officially clearing waivers, TE Asante Cleveland signed to the practice squad, as I said he planned to.

Also, Doug Kyed is still the undisputed local beat writer to beat. Sorry, Volin.

I wondered about Gray's PS eligibility. Doug tweeted this:

@DougKyedNESN Jonas Gray can only be on the practice squad if the Patriots carry 53 players. If they drop to 52, they must fill their roster or cut him.

@MarkDanielsPJ I'm also hearing it's the Patriots the plan is to sign Chris Barker to the practice squad, per source.

@DougKyedNESN Add guard Ryan Groy to the Patriots' injured reserve list.

In the "we hardly knew ye" department:

@MarkDanielsPJ Patriots offered Justin Coleman a spot on the practice sways, but I've been told he declined and signed a different offer, per source

Edit: signs with the Seahawks.

@RapSheet: #Patriots claimed
Khyri Thornton

Thornton is a 2014 GB 3rd round pick that did not pan out. ESPN's Packers guy did not like the pick: http://espn.go.com/blog/green-bay-packers/post/_/id/22907/khyri-thornton-carl-bradford-among-packers-worst-recent-draft-picks

Bad picks: Even at the time, general manager Ted Thompson’s decision to pick defensive tackle Khryi Thornton in the third round of the 2014 draft looked like a reach. The same could be said for Carl Bradford, a fourth-round pick the same year who seemed equally ill-suited to play inside linebacker as he did outside linebacker. At least Thompson didn't multiply his mistake by keeping them around. The fact that neither ever played a down for the Packers is all you need to know about those picks.

I had him on & off my 53-man projection, and now Cam Fleming is off, replaced by Thornton:

@MikeReiss Patriots have informed second-year OT Cameron Fleming that he is being released. Opens roster spot for DT Khyri Thornton, claimed on waivers

Hope he sneaks through to the PS.

Per Miguel at Patscap.com, there's currently $9,094 left. Regarding the Thornton-for-Fleming swap:

@patscap Replacing a 510K salary with another 510K.

Also, would anyone else like to see Pats give the Hard Knocks star Chris James II?

@DougKyedNESN Brandon King, Xzavier Dickson, Dax Swanson, Darius Fleming, Asante Cleveland and a big WR wearing No. 15 are on the field. Assume that's PS

@cpriceNFL Expectation is that Pats will sign OL Chris Barker to PS per league source. Barker had been dealing with ankle sprain in preseason.

Probably the one team whose PS he'd sign with over the Pats. Hard to blame him given their developmental track record (although he's not in the mold of the guys they've developed).

@NEPD_Loyko So basically the #Patriots WR position is back in the exact same spot it was Week One in 2013. Edelman, Amendola, Dobson, KT.

Well it's a bit different than in 2013 I'd say.  You have a fully healthy Rob Gronkowski, a legitimate 2nd TE in Scott Chandler, and Brandon LaFell is waiting in the wings.

Plus a much more comfortable Amendola. He has been the most consistent -- and the healthiest -- wideout all pre-season.

I mean that's not a bad thing. That team went to the AFC championship game despite being decimated at injuries and as pointed out above have gronk, chandler, LaFell as well.

WR is not a fungible as RB but I think it's pretty clearly a myth that you need big time WRs to win in the NFL. I mean sure they're nice and it's fun to have a dominate guy on the outside. But I'd rank quality of a teams WR group very low when setting priorities in how to build a team. Fantasy football culture warps our mind on this. But look at the Pats success, the Seahawks, the Steelers who won with Santonio Holmes/Ward as their top pair. It's not as critical a position as many people think.

Except Blount is a better runner, obviously has the trust of the coaching staff and can return KOs pretty well. But yeah, to a tee.

KOs has multiple meanings with Blount, no?

Is it possible that Belichick and the Pats are more forgiving of mistakes made elsewhere than mistakes made with him/ them?

I only went 3/10 with my practice squad picks, so clearly I know nothing, but I'm a little surprised they didn't add a 3rd QB now that the practice squad has expanded to 10. I think most of the league will carry 3 on their 53/PS, but maybe NE is less risk-averse than the rest of the league (or maybe they just know that Cassel is a street free agent)

In addition to (one still assumes) Cassel, keep in mind that Garrett Gilbert, Flynn, and Lindley all have some level of familiarity with the playbook and schemes at this point.  So, the value of having someone further up the learning curve than those street FA options is probably pretty limited---if Brady and Jimmy G both go down during a game, the team is likely running a vanilla offense the next week regardless of whether one of them is on the PS already or not, and if one of them goes down the FA of choice will have a little time to get up to speed (and likely limited ability to do much with that knowledge anyway)

I wouldn't be surprised if they add a developmental QB at some point, but this early on I suspect they value the depth and development opportunity for almost all positions above that of QB.

Still very surprised that Morris 1. didn't make the team, 2. didn't get picked up elsewhere, and 3. is not on the Pats PS. But this roster will turn over a dozen times in the next week or two.

Surprised by the Fleming release. He played a lot last year as the third TE and they started him in the KC game. Obviously, they like Williams as a T/TE hybrid.

I had assumed they used Fleming as the hybrid TE/T because they liked him and saw flexibility there; however, it seems clear now that they more likely concluded he is not a NFL T and thus that was the only value he had.   As they've upgraded the T/TE role he now doesn't really have a spot.
