Benson's illness and the family squabble might be behind this fire sale. Getting ready to jettison the team?

Even if so, trading guys like Stills is very odd.  He's young productive, and minimum salary for two more years.  Though there's some value in getting a draft pick for him, he's pretty much what they are looking for, not what you'd imagine they are trying to get rid of.

I guess if they plan to deal Brees they may figure Stills' value will never be better, as his numbers might drop.  But boy---it's really a full rebuild at that point.

Agreed, they have to see what they could get for Brees at this point.

2nd? Should be a 1st round pick if you ask me. He is 22 years old with 63 catches and 931 yards as a 22 yr old last year.

I'm guessing it's a 3rd; perhaps with a contingent for an upgrade for higher? I'd love if it was a '16 pick. The Fins need every pick they have to add talent/depth.

Does Stills replace Wallace this year or next? I think next year. With Wallace, Stills, Landry, and Matthews, this frees up Miami to go with defense in Round 1.

Really surprised Saints want to pay Ellerbee $8.4 mil base salary given their cap situation.

Unloading Ellerbe's contract makes a lot of sense for Miami.

Another good move for them.

They accelerate his remaining bonus immediately, and since he wasn't owned any guaranteed salary beyond this year they didn't benefit at all salary-wise.

That move makes no sense.

Stills cap hit $633,613

Ellerbe (missed 99% of last season) cap hit $8.4 million this year $6.45 next (is that correct?)

You have to think they'll be trading Sproles now. Those two players play the same role. After losing Helu, would Pats be in play for Sproles?

Sproles plays for Philly...

Dolphins save $5M against their cap (what they would've saved if they cut Ellerbee, which they were rumored to do a week ago) and only give up a 3rd for Stills? If NO wanted Ellerbee that badly, wait for MIA to cut him. Why on earth is NO doing this?

That would be a neat trick

Do you mean Ingram?
I think he finally got the hang of the NFL last year. He had a 2-3 game stretch of consecutive 100+ yards last year. I don't think the Patriots will make a play at a starting RB this offseason.

I want Scott Chandler on the Patriots for pretty much the same reason I wanted Carl Crawford on the Red Sox. Maybe this signing would go a little better.

Maybe you were thinking of Pierre Thomas?  The Saints let him go a couple of days ago.  I would think the Patriots could be looking at Thomas if Reggie Bush doesn't happen.  Not much chatter about Thomas -- just that the Ravens were interested in him, but I'm not sure if they still are now that they re-signed Forsett.

Better hands for making catches, at least.

Chandler is a nice asset in the red zone, though he can get the dropsies, but he strikes me as a lumbering type of guy -- not exactly a guy you can rely on when the offense is in the mode where it's trying to get the ball out of Brady's hands in under 2 seconds.  My impression is that he's an average blocker too.  Certainly an upgrade of Hooman, but doesn't strike me as a huge team need.  With Gronk's history, I'm sure the Patriots felt like they were playing without a net at times last year without a true number 1 to plug in if Gronk had to miss a game.  This probably makes Wright a nice change of pace play as the number 3 TE, since he's a lot different from Chandler.

I'm pretty "meh" about the possibility of Chandler.  I hope he's not too expensive if the Patriots do end up with him.

Edit:  Welp, I'm 15 minutes behind.  I guess I better learn to love it.

This is the worst trade I can remember in recent memory. The Saints are putting together one of the worst offseasons I can remember on top of their dreadful offseason last year. Still should have gotten a second rounder on his own, maybe a bit more, and they gave us significant positive value in exchange for getting Ellerbe back, who was going to get cut anyway and could have been signed for much cheaper. It's maybe the strangest offseason for an NFL franchise I can remember, in terms of football transactions.

With good QB play, an if, Miami could be up there near the top of the AFC.

I'm really glad the Patriots seem to be at the forefront when it comes to allocating limited resources to the backfield. Can't help but chuckle at these teams dishing out cash for multiple veteran RBs when you can find guys all over the draft board or off the scrap heap who represent much better value as long as you have a line that can block for them.

Line for the ages.  Guarantees two of the three of him, Donald and Brockers are on the field.

Seattle is going to have to make a move or two to upgrade their OLine now.  STL gave them fits last year from their front 4 and they just got even stronger there.

If Darren McFadden runs for 1400 yards next year, I sort of think maybe teams are going to start to get the message that maybe line and scheme have a lot to do with it in 2015.

He certainly jumped about 20 pegs on my 2015 fantasy football depth chart.

With CJ Spiller agreeing 2 deal w/ Saints, would seem 2 be 1 less team 4 Patriots 2 compete w/ 4 Reggie Bush. I see Bush as ideal scheme fit

Jaguars sign "WR"/PR Bryan Walters from Seattle.  Why they feel the need to pick up a guy whose best attribute is making a fair catch is beyond me, even at vet minimum (and this probably isn't).

If he signs, he would be the sixth Heisman trophy winner to play for the organization.  Can you name the other 5?

Does Tebow count?  He only played pre-season IIRC.

I took it he counted based on the phrasing of the question "play for the organization." It's a grey area
