RT @RavensInsider: Patriots have maintained interest in LeGarrette Blount throughout free agent process.RedOctober3829 said:
I agree with this statement. Vernon Gholston is the very defintion of a bust or a miss with no sacks in his nfl career. As mentioned upthread Chandler Jones has had double digit sacks in his career. So I guess since he does not have 35 sacks already, he must be a bust. We must have some tough standards on this board. Unreal.RedOctober3829 said:Whoever is calling Chandler Jones a miss has no idea what they are talking about. Vernon Gholston is a miss. Chandler Jones is no Gholston. Come on people.

And while Jones is clearly not a miss, he hasn't been the success that his early production in each season suggested he might be. To me, he's a player who has shown flashes of greatness, still has a lot of promise and hopefully will do whatever he needs to do to produce more consistently.
Agreed very much with your first point. Didnt mean to start a pile on with my initial comment.TheoShmeo said:Like Eck wrote above, it was one person and it was a mistake made by a good poster. It happens. Do we really need this many posters to pile on?
What's next? A post in the BBTL thread decrying the excess fanboyism of Pats fans generally?

I figure they're kicking tires and seeing if they can drive up his price to the Patriots, call it Sanders Part Two, Payback. Both Blount and MJD have come through Pittsburgh recently for visits, which is a little odd considering their known cap situation. Perhaps some rumble because of Munchak's hiring to bring the offensive line to it's potential, but otherwise maybe just posturing to drive up prices.mpx42 said:Steelers had 2 million in cap space this morning. Adding Lance Moore means they can't have much to offer Blount.

Is there anyone here that would give an offer > 1 million per year to any of the 2014 free agent RBs left (maybe Moreno)? I bet the Pats draft a RB in the 4th or 5th round. I feel for these guys but that position is where teams save money now.KiltedFool said:I figure they're kicking tires and seeing if they can drive up his price to the Patriots, call it Sanders Part Two, Payback. I think we should rename the thread to "Improving on the Disappointment of Jones."
Did Graham/Gronk/ Hernandez really revolutionize the position or was that Gonzalez/Gates?soxfan121 said:
I appreciate that and I hope what I wrote didn't come off as attacking you.
I am trying to make the point that Daniel Graham's hands were good enough for what he was and that Gronk/Jimmy Graham have changed the expectations of a TE (and specifically, a TE's hands). For example, Daniel Graham's hands were better than Kyle Brady's hands - and Brady was drafted higher in the first round several years before Graham. Aside from Ozzie Newsome and Kellen Winslow Sr., there just were not many TEs who were known for their hands or primarily for their contributions to the passing game. The position has literally been revolutionized by players like Jimmy Graham/Gronk/Killer Hernandez and the new dynamic passing attacks.
Daniel Graham was not a "miss" - he was a solid football player who contributed mightily to team success and (looking at his draft class) his draft position.
Agreed. Daniel Graham signed a 5 year $30 million contract after leaving the pats with $15 million guaranteed. He was one of the highest paid tight ends in football at the time.soxfan121 said:

SMU_Sox said:Moreno is a great idea. He can do everything. He is skilled as a pass blocker for a RB, obviously he can rack up some yardage, and he can catch passes as well in the flat. He's a guy you can have in a 3WR 1 TE 1 RB set. I wonder how cheap he'll go for as he is probably more needed on a team like the Fins and is currently visiting there.

Like owner Steve Bisciotti did a day earlier, Harbaugh again defended Ray Rice and said that, despite the running back’s legal issues, Rice will be on the team in 2014. Harbaugh, however, acknowledged that the team’s three arrests in a 22-day span were embarrassing and inexcusable.
As much as I've enjoyed watching him play throughout the years, his recent issues have really contributed to his fall from grace.Stitch01 said:

Good job Ravens. Keeping that "Ray of Light" tradition going strong.

Wow. That's quite a statement from another head coach.
I mean, we've enjoyed the Patriots moves, but hearing the leader of another team respond with, "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck" is a whole different level. And it's awesome.
Edit: And Flacco has the same cap hit this year as Brady.
Ed Hillel said:
About 10-15% higher, actually.
Oh man oh man, look at that Flacco contract. The dead money is hilarious:
2014: 38.2 million
2015: 36.4 million
2016: 25.85 million
2017: 15.3 million
http://overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=Joe%20Flacco&Position=QB&Team=Ravens
He's basically uncuttable until 2017, and even then he'll be taking up probably 10% of their cap should he get cut. But Ozzie had to do it, I say. Had to!
That is an awesome comeback.Buster Olney the Lonely said:I was disturbed by the Ravens trading Anquan Boldin to the Niners for a sixth-round pick last year.

Really? I thought they were both listed at $14.8 for 2014.
But yeah, the difference in dead money is... significant... in a sort of hilarious fashion.
He was more of a Sweetleaf, no? I don't believe he was ever regarded as much of a blocker.drleather2001 said:
People forget that Jeremy Shockey was regarded as a fucking SENSATION when the Giants drafted him a few spots ahead of Graham. He was supposed to be Gronk before there was a Gronk to be.

Not surprised he stayed in the division. I feel sorry for whoever the QB of the Vikings is next year.

ElcaballitoMVP said:
I was thinking the same thing. I'd be just fine bringing Blount back at that price. The Pats can also add a quality back in the 3rd/4th round if they want to add a more versatile option.

Love this move for the Fins.
It's dangerous to wait because all of the RBs currently on the roster are entering the last year of their contract. I wonder if they are going to sign MJD to a multi-year contract and use 2014 as a competition to see which one of Ridley or Vereen does the best this year and decide who to keep at the end of the season.Dogman2 said:
In that scenario, do you cut Bolden or just wait until next year to draft a RB?
I think I wait until the 2015 draft for RB.
