Historically Roy has done very well against Pitino but that's not something you can count on every time so last night's loss hurts even more because of that. You need to win home games in this conference, especially when Notre Dame went ice cold from the floor the last 7-8 minutes after shooting the ball tremendously well before that.
I didn't think Roy was the reason at all they lost last night, even his last play call on the final timeout was really good; Marcus drew three defenders to him for goodness sake, it was badly, badly executed by JP. He had Brice Johnson under the goal one-on-one or Justin Jackson all alone at the top of the key and forced the play to Marcus. That's on the player(s), not Roy. So's Kennedy Meeks giving up an offensive rebound that ended up as the game winning bucket when he was in position to grab the rebound and Hicks and even Marcus (who hasn't played as well as he did last year by any stretch) missed free throws, and UNC missed their last eight FG attempts. That goes on the guys wearing the jerseys, not the coach.
