Kiké Hernandez traded to Dodgers

I don't know what the return is, but it's a good move trading Kiké. He was great for the Sox in 2021, but has struggled since. Don't be surprised if he plays well for the Dodgers.
This is a good sign for me from Bloom that even though he's hoping the Sox make a run to the playoffs, moving Hernandez out is the right thing to do. He'll likely get some flyer on a prospect, Hernandez might get a dead-cat bounce in his play and the Dodgers get a guy they are familiar with.
Just hope for their sakes they don't play him at short.
I am mildly -- very mildly -- concerned about a potential morale impact (yes, they're professionals and whatnot, but just flagging it as, again, a mild concern). But sending him to the Dodgers is probably the coolest thing the Sox could do for him, potentially mitigating those concerns. On the field, I was pretty indifferent about him vs. Arroyo at this stage; basically a decision between a better bat and positional flexibility. This is fine.

Best trade the Sox have made since the 2021 trade deadline, mostly because it removes the ability to play Hernandez in CF while sitting Duran.
You can't add players to the 26 man at the trade deadline without also moving players off it.
I'm happy for him and for the team. I hope there's no void in leadership or fun factor. Cora will miss him more than anyone. I hope he plays well for the Dodgers and we meet him in the World Series, where he proceeds to go 0 for 15 with 10 Ks and 15 LOB.
I'm guessing an as yet unripened can of tennis balls, possibly usable in 2027.
Weird career, not convinced he’s cooked but he certainly wasn’t going to be here next year and they needed to make a move. Queue the “I never wanted to leave LA” articles.
I still think the Diekman for McGuire swap was better but I'm willing to concede the point.
We also had one of those from Mookie on Brock Holt’s podcast. Never wanted to leave Boston.

Win/win at this point. I think he still has some baseball left in him, but he's redundant with the Sox. I've always liked him and wish him well.
Strongly disagree, if a player without options is blocking better players, dumping him is addition by subtraction.
I am hoping that the Six clear the $3.3 or so million and use it to get a decent pitcher

Is his prorated 10 mil left significant? Are we looking for a minor leaguer or a pick? Kike is still very popular in Dodjer country btw.
Well, the question is: is 2023 Kiké an actual asset?
He was hitting .222/.279/.320/.599, with an ops+ of 61. That's REALLY bad.
And then defensively, he had a .935 fielding percentage, with 14 errors and was worth -3 runs in the field in limited action. That's also REALLY bad.
So he was really bad at the plate, and really bad in the field, and was worth -0.7 bWAR in 86 games.
Is that kind of player really an asset? I mean, he's a warm body but 2023 Kiké was an "asset" for the Red Sox in name only.
As I said in one of the other fucktillion threads that addressed Kiké, the reasons for keeping him on the roster were diminishing -- Duran seems for real; Duvall can play a competent CF and has been hitting a bit; Chang can play SS; and Reyes, while probably not his equal at 2B, is competent there and is hitting a bit better than Hernandez was. And maybe Arroyo's thumb isnt IL-worthy?
In total agreement. I'd also add if his presence takes away at-bats / development time for a superior player younger player. Which Hernandez was every time he took at bats as an OF player. It's why Duvall has to go also.
It’s not a caring where he went it’s a destination that makes sense for familiarity with him, and a place that is very very deep in prospects, and thus we’re likely to get get better and newer tennis balls in return. And the fact it is NL is probably good too.
Because its marginally easier to root for a team that occasionally does something that, on the surface, appears to be a solid for a player who was solid for them. (Maybe they *did* get the best bag of balls from LA; but maybe they were willing to take a slightly dirtier bag. We'll never know.)
Aside from the fact that Duvall has been playing, better, who is Duvall blocking?
