Interesting that he went to the assistant who had a worse view. Looked like Onana was covering his face. Not sure about that call. Suspect we would have heard "not clear and obvious" either way it was called on the field.

To me it’s not a penalty but that particular rule has become such a farce I don’t even know why I don’t think it’s a penalty
This. I don't know what he's supposed to do with his arm, falling to the ground, but the decisions are such a pot of crap I can't point to a hard rule why

Between that and the Odegaard one not being given, idk anymore... not like I knew previously (see: Rodri on this ground)

Like the rest of you I have no idea what is a handball penalty at this point. But generally speaking I think its better for fewer of them to be called, with the exception of handballs that directly impede a shot from flying into the goal, which seems plausibly the case on the Onana penalty.

The biggest problem isn't this kind of penalty being called, its when situations that would lead to a goal ~5% of the time start getting turned into an 85% likely chance to score based on the whims of the referees.

I honestly don't know. I'd like to oppose it because it happened to my guy, but again it's just shrug-emoji. Just as if the opposition did it, I'd love to claim the handball but could I complain if it wasn't given? Might as well consult Magic 8-Ball.

Robbie Fowler made a good point. If it didn't hit Onana's arm it would have hit him in the face. It wasn't going in the goal. Not sure how the rule takes that into account.

In any event, very pleased with how Everton are competing each and every game. Would like to see more squad rotation. Word is that it's a thin squad, but it seems like everyone who gets a shot plays well. What happened to Dobbin?

Something called Jack Hinshelwood opens up the scoring for Brighton. Spurs Emerson/Davies/Porro/Udogie backline is...interesting.

And now a penalty incoming for Brighton, should be 2-0 in a moment.

I wonder how American Express has naming rights in the south coast of England and yet unseen here in the Americas. Is Brighton an untapped market for Amex that Discover, Chase, Visa/Mastercaard don't want?

2-0 Brighton at the half. Spurs lead in possession and final third touches, but have lacked a true quality on that end of the pitch.

James Milner had a great first half and was constantly praised for it by the announce team.

Nice that the refs are quick to whistle when the ball goes out off Arsenal.. and don't see the need to call those pesky things like the foul on Saka

Looked out of play to me live, but I don't see how they can overturn with these angles.
If you can do goal line technology to the millimeter.. why not do that for the full goal line as well?

edit: I know it's play to the whistle, but the D looked like they stopped because they saw the ball was clearly out.

I mean it's ridiculous that a league as wealth as the EPL hasn't installed the system that they had for the world cup, but here we are.

Big fan of the ref calling a foul on arsenal for a completely clean challenge getting all ball and no player and yet letting the Saka foul go.

Clearly out ???? If it was out it was by a millimetre … and if Arsenal stopped playing then that’s on them.
How do you define a millimeter? And how do you know versus the people that were standing right there.. as opposed to you who have no clear angle to determine how far out it was given the camera angles..

Brighton go 3-0 off a stunner from Estupinan. Spurs were sniffing close to a goal too, but that should do it for Brighton.

I mean just looking at the touchline angle, there's no way to tell if there's ball between Bowen's leg and the post

Doesn't help that the Emirates grounds crew appear to have drawn a jagged touchline

But you could see the WestHam player’s foot as he kicked the ball - which gives you a pretty good idea of where the ball was. And the “people who were standing there” didn’t have any kind of angle either. Not saying it was in or out - just saying it was really close.

Yeah.. I mean this angle to me actually shows the ball out.. but it's an angle you can't see the ball at all and you can see the full line. But you're right. To me it's how far his foot is out, but there's no angle that shows it clearly.

The more egregious decision was not to look at all at the attack on Jesus.. or at least show a few more replays.
