Girona got a third and Atleti got a very classy goal from Morata. 3-2 Girona before the half. Heck of a game.

Atletico almost had the third! What a fun match.

Girona is very impressive, just an outstanding team that is well coached and well organized.

Morata ties it. 3-3 and probably more to come
A stoppage time goal for Girona! Koke had himself a terrible game, and that was some poor defending from Atletico on that last goal, but Girona has some magic and swagger -- to take on that dribble, to take on multiple defenders, to go for the shot, and to put the ball on target out of reach of Oblak -- everything is working for Girona.

I hope they win La Liga.

I assume you mean Girona, but as you know my pick to win it all was Atleti. But the smaller the club, the more I root for them so we are probably aligned here.

Yes, Girona. I mean, I always want Atletico to win, but the Girona story is really exciting and La Liga needs the smaller clubs -- Girona, Betis, Real Sociedad, Athletic -- to push through and give the big three a challenge.

Girona really would be a nicer story if they weren't part of the City Group.

To be fair, City Group own a large share but not a controlling percentage (47%). It’s not like NYCFC, Troyes, or Palermo where they own the entire club or at least a controlling amount. They can’t throw tons of money into it given Spain’s strict FFP rules (just ask Almería about trying to do that). They can and do play a role in advising the structure and Girona do end up with CFG players on loan, and even those loan deals are pretty heavily scrutinized by La Liga. KDB isn’t walking through that door. You can’t do in Spain what you can do in the Premier League.
