Rays come back from 2 runs down in the 9th to tie it and then walk it off in the 10th, 6-5.
Winning run scored by the magic man, Basabe.

Rangers lose again. Six game losing streak now has Houston .5 back and Seattle 1 back. It’s crazy that the Mariners could end up winning the division.
They were idle yesterday so they “gained” a half-game on Houston and Seattle. I’m not sure how likely it is, but if they fall behind those two, that’d be 2011-level. If they fall additionally behind Toronto, and out of the playoff picture it’d be maybe the worst collapse ever?

(Edited for clarity after I re-read it - that's what I get for distracted typing!)

Disappointingly, the Twins are not holding up their end of the bargain in the whole "hasten Texas's downfall" thing. Pablo Lopez is getting lit up, 4-1 Rangers early.

Twins complete the comeback! I have nothing against the Rangers, really, but I am kind of rooting for them to collapse all the same.

Would it really be a "collapse" when a losing Twins team still wins the division? Because I don't see the Tigers catching them even in fantasy land and Cleveland stopped attempting to win games over 3 weeks ago (and are facing playoff teams for the next 3 weeks).

Reds vs Diamonbacks is going to be a spectacular series. Game one of four was 0-0 into the 7th. Arizona scratched a run across before the Reds scored 2 in the top of the 8th, the Corbin Carroll hit his first in over a month (last one also against the Reds) for a 3-2 lead. Sewald got the save, but it was 4 really solid at bats from the Reds in the 9th.

Just great baseball, as Arizona leapfrogs the Reds for WC3.

Harrisburg, Pa.
39% attendance for that game. Arizona needs more fans.
I've been casually following the DBacks this year from afar and never really have before. The stadium often seems empty and silent. Is baseball in Phoenix somewhat in limbo? That seems hard to believe to me.

Mariners with a golden opportunity to pass Houston and tie Texas, but they're losing to the Royals in the 2nd

BAL now 23-11 in 1 run games. 7 games over their pythag. I hate to say it, but they give me 2008 Rays vibes. Annoying.
I love it. They are a ton of fun.

If the Sox can't punch a ticket, Mariners vs O's and Reds vs Diamondbacks (or Cubs) would be a dream scenario for me.

I lived in Phoenix for 10+ years when the DBacks were good and not so good (2003-2013 or so) and other than marquee opponents (yankess/sox/cubs/Barry Bonds) it's always like that. Biggest problems all come from the fact that it is always A hundred-and-fuck-you degrees outside during baseball season so you've got to be committed to the process to go. Parking somewhere and walking a block or two over in the heat before you get back in that sweet sweet AC. There really isn't a ton of stuff to do around the park beyond the usual couple of bars and restaurants so there's really not even much to make a whole day of it.

Much like anywhere else, you've got your die-hards and then you've got whoever trickles in for whatever other reasons.

Felix Bautista left yesterday with ‘arm discomfort’ and seems to be going to the IL so this could change.

Mariners, Rangers and Astros each have 72 wins. Houston has two more losses. Yet, at least in the calculations ESPN used in its projections, the Astros have the best percentage chance to make the playoffs. I suppose strength of schedule is the difference-maker.

The AL West is going to be fun to watch the next 6-7 weeks

Agree with most of this. But do prefer Rangers over Mariners (and no Cubs please)

ARI was 46-30 on June 22, 98 win pace for almost a full half season.

Since then they are 11-29, 45 win pace for a quarter of a season, almost exactly the same as OAK’s historically bad winning percentage pace.

They are only a few games back of the final wild card because some other teams have cratered too but yikes.
I don't think I noticed until just now - they're back! They've won 11 of 13 to re-take the 2nd WC.

I thought I saw the M's have the easiest schedule remaining in baseball?

Edit: guess not, or maybe that was from before their KC/HOU/CWS/KC run of series started.

If you can't beat the, hit them:

Yankees reliever Albert Abreu began the eighth inning by hitting All-Star outfielder Randy Arozarena with a 95.5 mph sinker, the second time this year that Abreu has plunked Arozarena. It was also the fourth time in Sunday’s game, the sixth time in this three-game series and the 12th time this year that a Rays hitter was hit by a pitch from the Yankees.

Twins have come from 5-0 back to tie it against the Rangers, 5-5 on to extras. Houston already won earlier today…
