They did the same thing with Brasier, massive spike in his cutter usage once he went there.

He has been trying to pitch through something for a month plus:

“But that has been the case during much of his six-start stretch without a win that began when he left the June 22 game against the Royals and reported mid-back tightness.

Over the six starts since, he is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA, with 24 strikeouts and eight walks in 25⅔ innings, allowing 30 hits, including five homers. Plus, his workload has been limited, as he went only 3⅔, three, six, four, five and four innings, and did a 16-day stint on the injured list.

In the 15 starts before that, McClanahan was 11-1 with a 2.12 ERA, with 97 strikeouts and 33 walks in 89⅓ innings, allowing 65 hits including 10 home runs.”

Just because we should probably start making each other aware of this, it is Shohei as starting pitcher day. Game at 9:38 PM Eastern.

Scherzer was a little unlucky in the 1st inning today, giving up 3 runs and throwing 37 pitches. But he settled in after that and the Texas offense did its thing.

Why did Shohei come out after 4 scoreless and 59 pitches? They showed Soriano in the pen warming even as Shohei was at bat in the bottom of the 4th -- guessing it was a blister or nail thing again, but even Twitter didn't seem to know.

Well he certainly looks fine at the plate. BB, SB, and 40th HR since my last post.

Mariners broadcast said it was cramps and tingling in his throwing hand.

Estevez comes in up 3-1 for the Angels, walks the first two batters and a single by Canzonne, bases loaded, nobody out.

Only the 3rd time all year that he has walked multiple batters.

Holy shit, Cade Marlowe Grand Slam. First blown save all year for Estevez.

Cade is a boss. I got to watch him last year down here, and he crushed the second half of the season. Super nice dude, and I am glad to see him hit the ground running at the MLB level. He's a stud.

Ryan Brasier comes into a 3-2 game in the 7th and easily gets out Soto, Machado and Bogaerts in order. He struck out X with a 97mph fastball.

Something, something Bob Lobel.

3 more off new addition Scott Barlow and that’s 8 combined in the 8th and 9th for the Dodgers, Darvish pitched great for the first 7, crazy box score:

Darvish
7 5 2 2 0 4, 82 pitches

4 relievers combined
2 6 8 8 4 1, 67 pitches

I mentioned this in the gamethread, but for those who haven't been paying attention, the KC Royals' last seven games:

Royals 8, Twins 5
Royals 10, Twins 7
Royals 2, Twins 1
Royals 7, Mets 6
Royals 4, Mets 0
Royals 9, Mets 2
Royals 7, Phillies 5

This is why talk like "this team sucks, we should sweep them" is silly in this sport, as even the worst teams usually have stretches in which they play well. I just hope the Royals get this winning stuff out of their system before they leave Philly.

OTOH, the A's are still bad. Their record right now is 30-80. The 2003 Tigers were 29-81 after 110 games.

Syndergaard is basically Josh Tomlin with a few more mph's at this point... throw strikes, hope the batters get themselves out and make sure the home runs are solo shots (which he's allowed 3 of in the last 2 innings).

no idea what that was all about but I’m not exactly sad to see Tim Anderson get knocked onto his ass

TA having a glass jaw is the least surprising thing ever.

I don't understand what the problem was there though? Jram slide 3' past the bag and got pissed at what?
Good question, didn't see anything worthy of a fight. But given the personalities of the two, I'm fine assuming that Jose is in the right and Anderson is a dick.

It makes sense. Ramirez is slugging .500 this year and Anderson is slugging .289. That's not a typo. Two eighty nine in 373 plate appearances.

Fighting is stupid but anyone who has been in more than one knows that if you square up like Anderson you can't go down like that. He did though. Damn.

Pretty curious to hear the details of how that escalated like that.

Jomboy must be furiously editing up a special piece right now. Maybe he will get us some slowed down lip reading stuff. JRam thought Anderson put a bit too much sauce on the tag maybe?
