Also dead horse, but... Blazers that quarter: 42 points allowed to the #20 offense in the league, with the playoffs on the line.

McCollum putting on a clinic. He's got a really nice stepback. Meanwhile, though, Portland needs like, at least one defensive specialist.

“All-time great Carmelo Anthony.”

Whoa, pump the brakes.

Yeah, Morant can pretty much drive at will against the Portland defense. I mean, he's good, but you've got to figure out an answer to that.

I think everyone is forgetting Portland's absolute destruction of LA on Kobe's vigil night.
Not saying they'll win the series, but it'll be competitive.

Melo hit that clinching 3, but my god he needs to be crashing the boards. 3 rebounds in 38 minutes for the second biggest guy on the floor? They have to be by far the weakest among teams in the playoffs at the wing.

Avoiding that extra game has to be huge for the Blazers, fatigue-wise.

I think they pull out at least a couple wins against the Lakeshow. They can’t defend, but can score on anyone; and the Lakers’ offense right now is crap.

I put Melo in the Isiah Thomas category of: college superstar / high pick who always carried himself like a superstar, took big shots like a superstar, and put up counting stats like a superstar, but was actually more like a #10-20 player in the league at his peak in terms of impact on wins.

Key differences: Isiah was actually part of a championship team (x2); and Melo is by all accounts a super likable and decent human being.

in any case, yeah, Melo’s 100% a Hall-of-Famer. Not happening, but: what a cherry on top of his HoF career it’d be to knock off The King...

This feels right. He made 2nd team all NBA twice and 3rd team all NBA four times, which I think accurately captures his peak value.

Nor would I, he probably gets in on his college career at Syracuse.

But he's not an NBA all-time great, more like a Knick all-time top 10 guy.
Hmmm, that’s an interesting one. Frazier, Monroe, Ewing, Willis Reed, Bernard King ... yeah, Melo kind of has to be on there.

But man ... for an original NBA team that plays in the Mecca of basketball, their all-time team is shockingly terrible. Like, you could pick ~20 Celtics/Lakers, and another ~20 Warriors/Sixers/Rockets/Spurs/Blazers before you got to the #1 all-time Knick.

IMO somewhere in the 6-10 range seems fair. I'd put Dave DeBusschere ahead of him as I think he was a more complete player

Regardless of how fans feel about Melo, he is essentially NBA royalty. His peers and the core NBA media mostly seem to adore him. I would not be surprised to see him make the HOF based on that and his undeniable offensive accomplishments.
