JJ Watt in his prime was one of the best defensive players ever. TJ is arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL right now. I think their a cut above the Bosa's, although Nick is close to DPOY-level.

That’s the analytical play.
Can you explain why? I saw another team earlier today go for 2 instead of kicking the XP to get to within 7. I can understand why you would want to go for 2 when down by 9, but it seems crazy to me to go for 2 there when it's really not advantageous.

edit: eh, I looked up some articles on it, but I don't really buy it. It all really comes down to the team's strengths and weaknesses, not analytics.

These things - prioritizing the strategic actions that are net optimal by the numbers divorced from other contextual factors, and accounting for those contextual factors when making a decision - aren’t mutually exclusive.

I've noticed the icings this year have been before the ball is snapped.

Finally teams have realized that giving the kicker a free practice kick is a terrible idea. It only took a decade.

Disagree with the announcers in Arizona. It’s not a game-breaking play if Kyler picks up a couple more yards; he’s right to give himself up there. And the kicker needs to make that kick.

With a backup kicker who sucks?
I mean... yes? He's still an NFL kicker. It's not like it's a position player.
What is the other option throwing 1 or 2 25 yard passes into the EZ with every defender waiting on it?

Edit- though it looks like what really happened is ARI coaches thought Kyler got the 1st.

The giving himself up wasn't necessarily the bad play. They should have had 2 plays called in huddle and not had to spike it.
