It's really hard to play QB really well in the NFL. There are only about 24 people in the world who can do it.

This. It always amuses me when people consider guys like Alex Smith as poor QBs. Smith is probably the 12th best person in the world at his job; but only being an NFL QB would that be cause for criticism.

They have 2nd Round pick Obi Melenfanwu and OL prospect Denver Kirkland on IR as well. I think they probably want both of those guy off the IR more than a kicker, especially once the certain to come OL and DB injuries happen.
I have to imagine that if Gorgio keeps winning games, they just leave SeaBass on IR and let them compete for the job next year.
