Is Mexico down, I just watch the games and don’t follow the news. To my eye, they look bad.

Yeah I like the 4-3-3 and it’s control in general but under Berhalter we really never had any serious attacking threat. You’d need to make Reyna into one of the 8s and instead he will probably be back on the bench
His tenure did start with that weird experiment with Adams at hybrid RB or whatever the hell that was and we ended up where we needed to be positionally, more or less. As I said above, praying the talent wins out. You simply can't do 8 years without being flexible. That's a big part of how all the previous attempts at 8 years blew up.

I'm a two-term skeptic, but it's hard to be worried about players tuning him out when they are his biggest advocates.

I'm also less worried about Berhalter's tactical flexibility. We have more horses this cycle, and that will result in more tactical options available to the manager. Hard to go 4-2-3-1 last cycle when Gio was hurt almost all the time. We'll be watching the Gio relationship closely, of course, but going forward I'm optimistic they'll eke out a working relationship.

How much of that is because of the poor form of our No. 9s?

Also, Reyna was on the bench because of injury and being a shit at practice. I have a hard time seeing Gregg benching him if he's in form.

One thing I've really been hoping for with the talent upgrade up top is to just create more CHAOS in the box and not try to score a perfect goal every time. That's a good example. Lots of dangerous players around, drawing in defenders, making guys nervous, leaving gaps. Good things happen when you fire shots in dangerous areas, even if you whiff like Gio did.

Mexican center back doing a Michael Keane or Maguire clanger there at the top of the D, and CP just picks it off his foot and stuffs it

Mex just put together good passes and got forward quickly, for the first time in a long time

Mexico looks like they do not give a shit. Uninspired ball by them. I’ll take it. Troubling that it’s only 1 goal.

They said the pitch was 72 yards long, which clearly it isn’t. It’s at least 100. But it is seriously narrow. I though most football arenas built in the last whatever years are designed to be big enough for soccer.

Nah, I heard Simmons or someone say even the Rams place needs work to host the WC

Yeah — I think they can remove seats to get it wide enough but the controversy is that if they do it will be under 80k and can’t host the final. Which is why NYC and Dallas are favorites.

It’s a problem with the field width and subsequent space between the field and stands that is the issue. Nothing to do with field length.

Weah's pace and athleticism on the wing continues to be a key foundation for this team's attack. Feels like 75% or so of our goals involve that.
