Mendes is normally in good shape, so I have to think one of those early kicks really sapped his energy. Weird fight but nice win for McGregor

Yea, he's a wrestler; he's got lungs for days. Agree completely on the early shots to his body.

McGregor earned a lot of respect from me. He promoted the shit out of both fights. Literally went around the world. Took big blows when Mendes had him down, but that left was beautiful.

Save us from this never ending stream of bullshit, Aldo
Why do you hate fun so much?

Can't wait until the Aldo-McGregor fight, McGregor's power is definitely legit.

Sherdog has 50% early stoppage and 50% suck it haterz.

I thought it was a good stoppage. Mendes went down quick after that left.

I haven't been follow the sport for a long time but that was the best card I've ever watched, and Lawler-Rory was the best fight I've seen.

Conor McGregor is a PHONY HUMAN and I can't stand his fucking schtick. He stole all his tattoos from a Canadian male model. The guy sucks and I hope Aldo snaps him in half but I would bet serious money that fight doesnt happen til UFC 200 in July of 2016

So what? He is a guy who played the 'game' well enough to get a title shot well before anyone else thought he deserved it. He's incredibly self-aware, smart enough to know that his sport involves getting punched in the head so he should make the most of it, relentlessly self-promotes himself as a result of that while providing fans with exactly what they paid for (entertainment). So I ask you again, why do you hate fun?

Unbelievable.

Reports are that Rory and Robbie are heading to the hospital and not going to be at the conference.

Rory didn't know what year it was after the fight according to Dana.

Edit: Biggest gate in US history according to Dana.

Edit 2: Pay per view numbers are looking that way too, according to Dana again.

Debatable. Mendes looked pretty cooked after the shot that floored him though, so i can see the ref's reasoning of a quick step in.

I went into that fight wanting McGregor to lose. Ended it rooting for him to get back to his feet as a fan. Pretty bad ass ending.

Which all would confirm McGregor as a megastar. More fighters should note that there is more to selling a fight than putting in training time.

He won, he deserves the interim belt. Hopefully I don't have to hear his mouth for another six months because McGregor is nails on a chalk board to me.

Also McGregor/Faber are the next head coaches on TUF, but they won't be fighting each other.  Last rumor I heard was that they're looking at doing Aldo/McGregor on Jan 2nd in Vegas.

And that model saw them on someone else who saw them on someone else. His tattoo's are traditional and have been floating around since the 1920's. Eagles, dragons, ship anchors, swallows, tigers are traditional tattoo themes that have been around since forever because they fucking rock.

I got 2 on me that have been around since the 60's. Hate me too?

Rory's as technically proficient as anyone out there, and he's young so he can come back (look at lawler), but I've never thought "oh, rory wants to rip his opponent's head off." I wonder what was going through his head when Lawler didn't succumb in the third round.

Yeah he can be a touch too calculated. He could have ended it with a little more agression. I really hope this loss doesn't hurt him moving forward.

Begging Herb for a stand up is not an effective defense Conor.

edit...well fuck me...he's here to stay

Yeah he needs to get better on the ground. If he is going to lose it is going to be on the ground.

The amount of time left shouldn't matter.

Don't tell that to Meldrick Taylor.

I liked a couple things Conor did in this fight.  You can tell in the final flurry he sacrificed some power for accuracy, and he did a great job to slide over to take an angle for the crushing blow that put Mendes down.  I thought he suffocated himself a bit and gave up some of his reach advantage, but it seemed to me Rory was doing the same thing, so maybe that's just an MMA vs. boxing thing.

We learned that McGregor has a good chin. Mendes landed several good strikes but they didn't phase him. That's going to be important vs Aldo. The only real damage McGregor could do on the ground were from those 12-6-ish elbows in the middle of the second round.

Is far from a perfect comparison, but it I think McGregor defeated Mendes easier than Aldo did last time, and he didn't need to throw after the bell either.

The next time a fighter has to stop fighting because of cuts everyone will think Stitch could have kept him/her in there. They'll hate the Reebok deal even more. Athletes in solo sports thrive on sponsorships. Could you imagine NASCAR or golf or tennis going with one universal sponsor?

Dillashaw was nasty as hell. I wonder if Barao moves up. He was gassed in the second round.
His homie is the champ at the next weight class, don't see the sense in moving up cuz he ain't gonna fight Aldo

How's the Rousey undercard look?  Some big names on it, but seemingly people with a lot of wear on the tread.  Can any of these guys still fight?

For me, the Neil Magny (vs. Maia) fight is interesting on the prelims, because he's got a lot of potential if he can put it all together.

Big Nog vs. Struve should give us a highlight-reel knockout or cool submission, so I'm going to be tuned in.

Not too excited about Little Nog-Rua, but I'd love to be proven wrong. They've just lost the magic in my eyes. Doubt there's much left in the tank.

I'm really interested in the Gadelha-Aguilar fight because of the newness of the women's strawweight division.

I have zero interest in the two Ultimate Fighter Brazil bouts. I'll be watching at a bar rather than shelling out cash for this one.

Yeah I don't think much of this card. I'll watch the Rousey fight and the Maia-Magny fight in the morning, and hope I don't get spoiled. Spoiler alert Rousey is going to destroy. Correia can act crazy and talk all she wants, and it may bring in some money, but when the cage closes it's going to be one-sided.

Re. Dillashaw, he looked nasty and locked in. Can Cruz be heathly now please? Barao fought like every fighter does when they are a little too big for their class. I wonder if his real weight is heavier than it used to be.
