I'll miss you guys. We had an awesome run. Hopefully I can come back with Lester next year.

JD's grand slam against the Indians was one of my favourite baseball moments. And you made some great defensive plays in the postseason last year…and um...see you tomorrow.

Great 2013: two walk-offs, a clutch bomb in Houston down a run in the 9th, a clutch hit off Mariano to tie the game in September after the Yankees went ahead late, amazing defense throughout the postseason (shame about the hitting, but whatever).  Thanks, Drew.  Keep sucking the next couple months, mmmkay?

Great glove, bat? eh, not so much
Guess we hate you now

Seriously though, the whole QO, late season signing thing was kind of a mess and I'm sure he'd have sucked less had he been on the same regular spring training schedule as everyone else, but he was defensively awesome for us last year and made all of the plays up the middle you could ask for.

Sorry for the Mo Lewis hit.  We've suffered for a decade and a half at QB since you left, but I see bright skies ahead in a few years!

Love his game.  Love his defense.  Love his plate patience.

It's too bad his contract situation made him vulnerable to this ridiculous treatment over the last 9-10 months.  If there are any negatives to the way Boras handles business, it's the Stephen Drew and Kendry Morales situations.

numbers game for boras.  he plays it to the brink.  Usually gets paid, sometimes hits the lottery.  And every once in a while one of his clients is a casuality.

Good luck, Drew.  I'll still be rooting for you because you're on my DMB team (24-team league) and my only other SS is Xander.

When you look at the anemic hitting that most of our team had in the post season last year, he fit right in. Great D, Stephen, thanks for last year. Please make the MFYs suck more.

Thank you for your great defense, sometimes bat, and for being Mr. Solid guy at SS all 2013. Being a quiet key contributor (an Invisible) on a Red Sox team isn't easy, so well done.

I hope I get to meet you someday, shake your hand and give you this $35 Target gift card in sincere appreciation and thanks.

P.S. I like you better than Julio Lugo.

Edit - P.P.S. After the last WS out, Pedey ran to you to celebrate. Good enough for me.

This is spot on and why, if I had a kid who was a stud MLBer, my advice would be to steer clear of Boras.

The Scherzer situation is a great example. Tigers offered a very substantial deal that, in my estimation, was well worth it given the risk of injury over a full season. Boras can play that game bc he has other Scherzer's in his portfolio, so to speak, but it's a huge blow to Scherzer himself if he hurts himself at any point this year.

Thank you for playing awesome defense. Congrats on making Jeter the 3rd best defensive SS on the Yankees. Now go fuck yourself.

I'll bet that when Scherzer took out an insurance policy on himself (after turning down that offer), Boras helped it come together.

The common theme with Boras is that he does what the players want him to do. He presents pros and cons, to be sure, but he is not the one in the driver's seat.

One would hope, but I thought such policies were hard to get, meaning the payoff if he gets hurt would be relatively small vs. what the Tigers offered.

It's a tough call to say who definitely calls the shots. Boras provides strong guidance that most of his clients will trust. Outside Jared Weaver there don't seem to be many examples of guys who took Boras down an unexpected path. Do you think Varitek was well served when he missed a whole year of baseball? What about JD Drew?

That is a callback joke to the Jay Payton saga, in which people were saying something to the effect of, "Fuck Jay Payton, if he didn't want to be a fourth outfielder, why did he sign here?"

But seriously, fuck Jay Payton.

Not sure that I would do it, but I'm willing to bet that both of them would give you an unequivocal "yes" to that question.

A Rod didn't go year to year through arb, against Boras's advice, but took a smaller guarantee multiyear deal.

Varitek directed him to negotiate only with Boston when he reached FA, which surely reduced the size of his deal.

Scott Boras does what he's told after he offers his best advice. Sounds to me like the kind of guy I'd want to represent my kid if he could play in MLB.

I can't wish you good luck given where you're playing right now, but thanks for all you did for the team while you were wearing the uniform, and God bless you and yours.

(And kudos, you starting this thread cracked me up.  It's clear why you're so patient at the plate because clearly you always start the count with two balls.)

There's a place for this kind of crap on talk radio. Or maybe with the pink hats behind home place.

Thanks Steve for playing a level of defense we won't see again soon. Too bad about your spaghetti bat. I hope it doesn't become al dente again till you find another better home.

Maybe before you find your undergarments in too much of a bunch you could take a moment to find the obvious parody in the words... before you insult the poster.

I'm willing to bet the Kennedys and the Bulgers are the only sets of brothers to have made more money in Boston on a per-day basis than the Drew Boys.

I'm also willing to bet the Drews are the only siblings among those three groups to have never lied, cheated, stole, cursed, or killed anyone.

Stephen Drew, the second best Red Sox shortstop of my lifetime. Thanks for well above average offense and defense during 2013 culminating in a defensive highlight reel in the postseason.

2014 was a FUBAR, but you still played near flawless defense, helping ensure that 20 one run loses stayed 1 run losses.

One of the most under appreciated and unfairly maligned players I've ever seen. Probably second only to his brother.

Indeed. He played great D and his bat was very good for a SS. He didn't hit at all in October but neither did anyone else for the most part and he did go out on a high note with the blast off of Wacha.

Thanks for a great 2013, Stephen.

So true.

Let it be known that if you're remarkably patient at the plate, strike out a lot as a result of that patience, play flawless defense at the most difficult position in the sport while producing as a top ten offensive player at that position, you will be scorned by Shaughnessy loving Bostonians who can't form their own opinions.
