The Corning Cholesterol select IF Clint Barmes.

I needed an IF who hits righty and can field all the hard infield positions. The righty is because most of his work will be filling in for Utley when resting or injured, but he is there for anyone who needs the rest in the infield. He is actually pretty serviceable batting against lefties. Last season had a .373 OBP against them. OK, that was purposely deceptive for no fucking reason. His career OBP against lefties is .336. His career SLG is .451. There is some Coors inflation there. Hey, did I mention he is a good fielder at 2B and SS?

Oh. That's annoying and arbitrualy frustrating.

I'll take Darin Mastroianni
Rather than reiterate the whole "you guys had the entire time leading up to the draft to suggest players for the Exception List", I'm just going to go ahead and say fuck you.

Chris Johnson was the other guy I was thinking about with the Pacheco pick, but the problem with him is his splits...he cannot hit lefties for his life. I already have some platoons to deal with, and adding another platoon at 1B seemed really inefficient to me. At this stage in the draft, he is a huge value though, so that's an excellent pick.

If I were to redo any pick, it would almost certainly be the Norris pick as I think I would've been better served grabbing a bat there. Oh well, such are the sacrifices we make for the sake of keeping the draft moving along. Well, except Andrew.

If I were going to re-do a pick, it would obviously be the Ryan Howard one. I know everyone said it at the time even right after I made the pick, but especially in retrospect, I could have gotten much more value in the 7th round, and he probably still would have been there a couple of rounds later. Ah well, at least glad that my mistake with him still doesn't result in me having to pay his contract as well.

I'll reiterate the fuck you. I may take a long time sometimes for picks, but Scoops and others were practically begging for more on the exceptions list. Also, more prospects would have meant slightly more juicy veterans falling to me. Mmmmmm, juicy veterans.

Wow I'm suprised Johnson can't hit lefties. It's incredibly rare to find a right handed hitter who can't. Yeah Pacheco was probably a better choice regardless.

Barmes sucks. Ain't two ways around that. Still as a late inning defensive replacement.....

Nope still a shitty pick in my mind.

I kind of regret going so young in general. I'm set up for a while but I probably won't win any WS if one or two of my prospects fail, which Snod pointed out way earlier. Ruf is probably my least favorite pick because I'm banking so heavily on a single season of success rather than a string of successful minor league seasons

Fuck...for some reason when Chris Nelson got picked I crossed Chris Johnson off my list, I've thought he was gone for a while now.  Stupid generically last-named 3rd base Chrises.

Im going to stay in the same universe in terms of the picture of the last pick.

The Nightmare select "Captain" Kirk Nieuwenhuis, BP

25 Years old, combined OPS in the minors of .817 with a .354 OBP.  Sounds like a decent 4th OF to me with an overall average ability to play any OF spots, though I would be a little hesitant in center.  Yes his K rate is absurd and his call up wasnt super awesome-o but I feel he will be productive moving forward.

Plus I got to include the Khan picture....skadoosh.

Seriously?  Man, defense is underrated in this draft.

I like balance between the two. Barmes doesn't even come close to fitting that bill.

And without looking over a list I'm fairly certain that there's a bunch of glove only MI. Why not pick someone better now and get Barmes later?

I think Street is a really good pick. He may have some trouble staying healthy going forward but he's really good when he's on the mound

Eh, there are more reliable relivers left without giant walk issues. Not terrible but I probably would've waited another round before picking him

Agreed. The elbow issues and the declining velocity aren't a big positive either.

Oliver, Steamer and Zips have him as a 3.5-4 FIP with a ton of K's. He throws a 98 mph 2 seam fastball and he's 26. I want a bullpen that is going to be able to blow the opposition away. I'll take someone who is more of a control guy later but I want high upside pen guys. That's why I went with H-Rod and White Castle.

I was thinking more along the lines of WP. It maybe have only been last season and that's why it sticks out in my mind so much but he always seemed to be fucking over the Nats by throwing a WP.

First, there are a bunch of glove only MI. Barmes slaughters them all on the glove side. He is great defensively. There are no dissenters. There are not as many tip top defensive players out there as you think.

Second, Barmes is only bad against lefties. There are many that are even worse.

Third, he is not a starter, so I can play him against lefties without facing righties. This isn't Pittsburgh.

Fourth, he is ready to go now.

Fifth, fuck you. I'm getting drunk.

Edit - As in he is bad against lefties, but terrible against righties. Add his defense to his performance against lefties, and he is OK.

I'm going to go with Bobby Parnell, RP, New York Mets.  Mostly durable, pretty good ERA that isn't crazily better than his pretty good FIP.  2.5 to 3:1 K/BB rate and a relatively low HR rate over the last few years.

I will post a picture later.

FWIW, his Oliver projection is so "good" is because they use and then weight the crap out of FB velocity. It's a known bias for them (on average, very hard throwers are biased "good" and soft tossers are biased "bad" so that their curve fits in the middle).

Plus, it's interesting that all the projection systems have his BB% decreasing back to pre-2011 levels after it's gone up every year since 2010. Doubly weird since (I know the projections don't consider this, but worth noting) that he's coming off elbow surgery (bone chips?) this spring.

Also, not to be a Debby Downer (hey, that's like -- half my job), but some of you guys do an awful lot of bitching about the lack of "discussion" while also wasting about 75% of your posts on nonsensical babble.

Just sayin'

So since I'm getting drunk, I'll reveal some my super secret research revelations.

I was researching potential guys for my next pick to slot on the list because the list had mostly dried up. So, I start thinking, maybe Michael Young would be a solid pick at this point. And then I saw that Terrisus had taken him 5 rounds ago. And this has been happening all draft to me (except for Ryan Howard, I would take Berkman way before Ryan Howard). Carlos Ruiz would have been a good platoon partner for Jaso. He started taking relievers 3 rounds before me in Papelbon.

And then I realized why his avatar is Crono. He is me from the future taking guys. Now I want to know what he is doing now so I can plan my life accordingly.

On my phone so I'll provide context later.

Ryan Doumit, Catcher, Pittsburgh Pirates

Dude can hit and will platoon nicely for me, despite being on the wrong side of 30.
