I pm'd Terri. I'd post one his earlier proxies but he mentioned that he was thinking about picking a different player and I want to give him to the chance to choose that guy  just in case.

Sorry if I held this up. I`m on vacation. So I can`t PM or bold but I think it`s past my pick anyways. I`ll take Geovany Soto BP as my 2nd catcher

So, I'm going to go in a completely different direction from what I had sent MakMan for proxies (which of course now means he knows my plans. I already told him I would need to eliminate him though  :whistling: )

As noted at the time I made my 3rd Base pick (Mark Reynolds), my team was better off, projection-wise, if he missed the whole season. So, I probably should get someone else capable of playing 3rd. There weren't many options at the time, and there are even fewer now, but, hey, this guy had a 3.3 and a 3.5 bWAR in 2011 and 2012, and managed to stay positive last year (0.3), and is only 31 at the start of next season. And he can play 2nd too, which gives him some flexibility.

Looking for a utility guy,  I should probably go defense first, but this is a pretty good bat, especially against lefty pitching, so might as well add him to the roster

Not a guy I would bet on to throw a ton of innings but he's got some upside if he can stay healthy.

With Grandal's health still a question mark and the recent run on catchers, I've decided to focus my attention on getting a solid backup.  He's 26 years old and hit at every level of the minors. He hasn't in MLB yet but catchers offense can take a long time to develop.  He seems to be a pretty decent pitch framer too.  BP1 Hank Conger

I have LV's Proxy:

Aaron Sanchez, P

#1 Prospect in the Jays organization with AFL experience so he qualifies.

Well I was going to take Conger here.

I'm out but I should have a pick you up in an hour or so.

^What is that?  When I was that age - it would've just been called a really, really bad party.

Baseball news... doesn't look good for Medlen.  Hope Lackey holds up for another season.

Jose Lobaton BP2

He was decent last year and I want to lock in my bench catcher in case Zunino has a sophomore slump that drives him under the Mendoza line

EDIT: PM sent.

Fuck. Already regretting that pick. Not that I really think he would have made it back to me but still....it's Jose Lobaton.

My goal going into this pick was to grab a guy I could rotate into the DH slot which would allow Myers to slot into LF, giving Joc some needed time off to develop. I suppose I could move Zunino there on off days so it's not the worst pick I could have made and Lobaton has been a positive defense catcher pretty much every seasons in the bigs but god....it's Jose Lobaton.

Lobaton's a nice backup catcher, I was considering taking him with my next pick. Hits righties very well, good D.

Thanks for the proxy!  Here's a brief writeup:

Sanchez was the last eligible member of the elite tier of pitching prospects, with true ace upside.  Baseball America has him ranked as the #32 prospect, right in between Carlos Martinez and Kyle Crick.  BP has him ranked at #31, right in between Andrew Heaney and Alex Meyer.  MLB.com has him at #23, ahead of dudes like Gausman and Ventura.

He's got a mid-90s fastball with great movement that misses bats and induces a ton of grounders.  He's also got a deadly power curve, giving him two potential plus-plus pitches (and a solid changeup).  He's got everything scouts look for: a classic frame and an exceptionally easy delivery.  The main downside is that his control hasn't been great thus far, but he's got time to improve it.

It's understandable that he's lasted this long, because he's farther from the majors than most of the prospects in his area code.  Since I've got six solid starters, I'm happy to grab a top prospect in Round 17 without expecting him to contribute anything this year.  I think it's the best possible value pick: the Blue Jays could easily trade Sanchez for any set-up man or backup catcher in the league, and they'd most likely get slammed for doing it.

---

Also, I really like the Joe Kelly pick.  He throws an 98-MPH sinker, and it was pretty terrifying in the World Series.  I believe in his RISP splits, and think he can maintain a weirdly low ERA because he bears down and sacrifices efficiency for strikeouts when he's got runners on.  If I didn't have a similar player in Nelson, I might have taken him here.

An on the clock post in an unrelated sub forum? Damn, that's cold. What was the quality of the P&G post?

That should make you auto-pick Punto... though I suppose we're closing on his value, anyway.
