Should the Yankees trade Gardner?

I like this idea a ton. I also support the speculation of a 3 team deal with the Reds and Indians and Masterson coming to the Yankees.

I support the idea of a giant taco that craps ice cream, which is just about as likely:

It sounds like just media speculation coming out of Chicago, but talks between the Cubs and Yankees for Darwin Barney could start up again.

That would give the Yankees a pretty impressive middle infield defense on days with Ryan at SS and Barney at 2B, but the bottom of their lineup would be awful.

Where would that Jeter guy play?

FWIW: "The Yankees have "absolutely no intention" of trading Brett Gardner to clear room in center field for Jacoby Ellsbury or to fill a need elsewhere, according to team president Randy Levine."

Amazing.  I can't figure out where the Yankees are going to find a starting 2b and 3b (they can't be so stupid as to think that A-Rod will play in 2014).  I guess K.Johnson and a platoon partner will start at one position; they will still need another player.

I thought for sure they would sign Infante when the Phillips deal went nowhere.  That didn't happen.  Where do they go from here?  Darwin Barney?  The offensive downgrade at 2b is going to cancel out the offensive upgrade at C.  And the situation at SS is not good if Jeter can't play the field (B.Ryan's bat).  If Jeter does play SS, he will hurt the Yankees in the field.  They should sign Drew--they have pissed away the 2014 draft anyway and so why not?

If the Yankees bat Ellsbury and Gardner 1 and 2, where does Jeter bat?

Jeter should bat 8th or 9th (to start the season) but there's no way that's going to happen.

The question is will Girardi have the balls to take Jeter out in the late innings for Brendan Ryan, which every other manager in baseball would do with a 40 year old infielder and superior defender on the bench.

Actually as has been the case for years, he should hit first or second against LHP who he has always killed, 8th or 9th against RHP.

Last year in an extremely SSS he had the hilarious OPS split of .348 against RHP, .940 against LHP. 2012 was .723/.941, 2011 was .666/.946, 2010 .633/.872. Girardi has never had the balls to do this but it is years overdue, as those numbers show.
