What is the end result of an injury like that?Seems a little unusual that he would get both an MRI and a CT scan -possibly they’re looking for a stress reaction in the bone, which is essentially an overuse injury. That would kind of make sense given how much he is ramped up from his previous level of inactivity over the last 18 months, and the number of pitches he thrown recently.
Well, that sucks…
Why can't the Sox get pitchers like ... Nevermind. And within +/- 1 hour of this announcement, Michael Wacha and Nate Eovaldi were named NL and AL pitchers of the month for May.
You mis-spelled “anatomy for a long-term contract extension “Sale just has the worst luck
He literally has thrown 250 innings since then.I mean him saying he hasn’t had shoulder issues in years would make more sense if he was actually pitching during those years instead of being injured from something else.
1700 innings at mostly max effort is bound to come at a cost.Sale just has the worst luck
Well they were right about Thor.Actually, I recall reading years ago, while Sale was with the White Sox, an article in Fangraphs arguing that Sale was more durable than guys like deGrom and Thor because he varied the velocity on his fastball and was *not* max effort all the time. Oh well.
I thought this was a joke. And within +/- 1 hour of this announcement, Michael Wacha and Nate Eovaldi were named NL and AL pitchers of the month for May.
He never realized those jerseys he cut up were made in a factory built on an Indian burial ground by a Romani practitioner of dark arts who had just broken a mirror right before walking under a ladder to step in front of a black cat.Sale just has the worst luck
Yeah, but did we win the Mookie trade? And within +/- 1 hour of this announcement, Michael Wacha and Nate Eovaldi were named NL and AL pitchers of the month for May.
The strong performances of Eovaldi and Wacha, along with Tigers lefty Eduardo Rodriguez, have called into question some of chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom’s decision-making when it comes to the starting rotation.
Cotillo obviously knows that they would have pitched just as well had they stayed in Boston. It's lazy analysis.Cotillo with the needle:
A: Wacha signed in February of this year. So you can say that all 29 GM who did not sign him Should be questioned about their decision makingCotillo with the needle:
Unless they saw a stress reaction/fracture on the MRI and were looking at the CT to see if it was close to being an actual fracture as opposed to a stress reaction. The fact that they are getting more tests leads me down the stress reaction/fracture pathway - maybe a bone scan?CT scan in addition to MRI is a bit weird unless they X-Ray showed something that confused them. A stress reaction is better seen on MRI than CT.
“Inflammation” is very vague so who knows, hopefully just some tendinitis and bursitis.
Yeah that could definitely be the case. If MRI only was the plan initially, then it showed some bone marrow edema, perhaps they added the CT later on to see if there was an actual fracture line or just stress reaction.Unless they saw a stress reaction/fracture on the MRI and were looking at the CT to see if it was close to being an actual fracture as opposed to a stress reaction. “First inning was great, second was kind of when it started happening, third inning was not very good and then the fourth inning, that was one that did me in. I kind of felt it on one pitch, and then after that it just slowly kept creeping up. The tolerance was not where I needed to be. I couldn’t finish pitches. I was raring back for 91. That’s just not it [for me], ever,” said Sale.
Don't bother. It's exhausting. Some guys who didn't fit the Sox plan will have good games, or weeks, or months. People implying that the Sox are stupid for not signing everyone who then got off to a good start this year are just trolling.A: Wacha signed in February of this year. B: why is E-rod lumped in given last season? He also just landed on the IL with a ruptured A4 pully

Nate already has 74 innings pitched. He is going to blow past (the amount of innings pitched this season) than any season he had with the Sox (injuries not withstanding)
Bet he said the same thing about Schwarber and Renfroe last year who both might suck now, probably even Franchy after his scorching first week in New York. Also probably worth pointing out that as good as Wacha was in May he was that bad in April.Cotillo with the needle:
Let's also not forget about all the whining and moaning about how stupid his last extension with the Sox was as well as the $15M per for 3-4 years that Wacha was initially asking for.Yeah ERod pitched 91 innings at a 96 era+ last year. Not exactly a guy that the Sox should have regretted not holding on to.
We all love Eovaldi and I think many of us wish he was here but it was also understandable why they let him go.
Wacha has surpassed all expectations and will come back to earth. He may have a good season but not a Cy Young type season.
Apparently, Cotillo would have had them let ERod go last year, sign Wacha so he could have the season he had last year, then somehow get ERod back to perform how he has thus far alongside Wacha? Wacha effectively (in both senses of the word) replaced ERod last year. Can't cry about letting ERod walk and at the same time cry about letting Wacha go. It was only ever going to be one or the other.B: why is E-rod lumped in given last season? He also just landed on the IL with a ruptured A4 pully

It's the Boston sports media, and it makes them so easy to just ignore.Apparently, Cotillo would have had them let ERod go last year, sign Wacha so he could have the season he had last year, then somehow get ERod back to perform how he has thus far alongside Wacha? This type of thinking about more than just your local favorite MLB team has seemingly made its way intothe greater culture.Apparently, Cotillo would have had them let ERod go last year, sign Wacha so he could have the season he had last year, then somehow get ERod back to perform how he has thus far alongside Wacha? There's nothing out there. They've been pretty noncommittal about next steps. It's now been 5-7 days. Anyone read any updates?
