Or 2001 AFC East:
NE - Brady
Ind - Peyton
NYJ - Testaverde
Mia - Fiedler
Buf - Van Pelt

Obviously a massive drop-off at the bottom, but that group is headlined by probably the #1 (obviously) and #2 or #3 (Peyton) QBs in history, and Vinny who was a 2x Pro Bowler who put up pretty big career numbers.
What am I missing here? When was Indy in the AFC East?

And that isn't a massive drop off. It is the Mariana Trench.

Brady and 3 scrubs is still better

Brady, Brees, Ryan, and whoever was in Carolina in 2020 is surely better.
I was just coming in to post my "There hasn't been this much championship pedigree QB-ing in an NFL Division since the AFC East the last 20 years."

You don't remember Polian asking out so they didn't have to get their asses kicked by Belichick/Brady for the next two decades ?

That's mostly a group of names who, at that moment in time, were not all that special. Brady was pretty far from being Brady (borderline top 10), and Manning was far from being Manning (other than his first and last seasons, 2001 was the only year he missed the pro bowl), and obviously Vinny was years past his prime. The other guys were at their peak, which was very slightly above average. That group finished 6th (Manning), 8th (Fiedler), 10th (Van Pelt) 13th (Brady) and 24th (Testaverde) in DYAR. Brady was the only one to make the pro-bowl, as a replacement (and he wouldn't make it again until 2004).

Mahomes/Herbert/Carr/Wilson finished 4th, 5th, 8th and 15th in DYAR in 2021. Mahomes and Carr are in their primes, Wilson may be slightly worse and Herbert will likely be slightly better. Carr was the only one to miss the pro-bowl. The two divisions aren't remotely comparable, unless we're looking at entire careers.

This is really the critical factor in the deal. Dude has taken a ton of hits over the years.

I see him being on the Roethlisberger aging trajectory much more than the Brady/Brees model.
Also a huge part of Wilson's game has been his mobility: his ability to extend plays, scramble for first downs, and provide an option threat in the run game are big parts of his value. As he ages all that is going to go away.

@j-man— what’re your thoughts?
a big shock but this is the only way to get a qb like this

the only thing i dislike is giveing up shelhy harris in the deal i wouild had rather gave up chubb or a 24 r 1 pick

denver was a 8 win team before yestday now they are a 10-11 win team that will likey get the 5 or 6 seed in the afc playoffs that with KC up aga the cap LAC too agg coach and Vegas while carr is a good qb but unless they build their back 7 up on def they are likey at 8-9 wins for a while this will really pay off in 2023 for denver

to the seattle guy that is on here here are my 02 on denver 3 players

Lock way up/down has a pretty deep ball but is inacc and thinks he is favre like when in reaily a poor man jeff george
Fant looks the part very good at pass catching esp inside the 20 but does not block and will get called for holding and missed 2 key blocks that cost denver at home aga KC Philly but if u tell him to just catch he can be good oh will also miss 4/5 games a year as well
s harris not a household name but a very good smart tough underrated player hate loseing him but to get wilson is worth the price

Forever until 2002?
Yeah, but other than that................

They came over from the "NFL" in 1970 into the newly formed AFC, became part of the Eastern Division.

Some nice rivalry games with the Patriots from 75 through 78.

It makes more sense if you're old enough to remember Bert Jones and Lydell Mitchell and the Baltimore Colts.
The ghost to the post game was one of my personal favorites........the Colts used to play in that shithole stadium in Baltimore, but Bert Jones looked smooth in those white cleats.

I can handle Russell being traded, but Bobby getting cut on the same day? Brutal.
Once you're rebuilding might as well rip off the bandaid. Huge cap savings on a guy who is still really good, but probably not All-Pro, and was difficult to trade given his contract.

Absolutely, but to me the calling card for the Seahawks of the modern era is defense so this one succcccks.

BWagz was a cap cut pure and simple. This hurts more than the RW3 trade because I got to watch BWagz at Utah State when he was just another guy. He had a special aura about him back then and it translated to the NFL.

yeah, I had assumed they'd ask him to extend at a hometown discount to spread out the cap hit, but once you trade the QB that's out the window.

Every thing I had been seeing was they were trying to trade him but the cap hit was too much. They were moving on from him most likely especially with Brooks stepping up.

yes from 1977-2001 those were some great games
Narrator: They were not, in fact, great games.

It def. feels like the end of an era with the Seahawks, you can’t help but think Carroll may be the next to go given his age.

This def. makes the Broncos more interesting as a team. The team has been in the wilderness since The Sheriff (ok I need to shower) retired. I confess tho that I had no idea they hired Hackett to be their HC or who he even is.

Doubt Carroll goes this late, with coaches picked over. They may trust him to rebuild at 70. I’m expecting Lockett and Metcalf next.

Pete signed a contract extension through 2026 just last year. He's probably not going anywhere.
Yeah, I would not be surprised if SEA is working on something else from a QB standpoint with those picks.

I though the LOB only referred to the secondary.
I guess we both get half points. At first it was defensive backfield only, later the nickname encompassed the whole D, at least according to Wiki:

"The Legion of Boom (LOB) was the Seattle Seahawks secondary during its rise to prominence in the 2010s. The original group that was nicknamed the Legion of Boom consisted of the main starters in the Seahawks defensive backfield (the cornerback and safety positions): Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Brandon Browner, Walter Thurmond and Byron Maxwell. Over time, the nickname grew to encompass the Seahawks defense as a whole, including prominent players such as Bobby Wagner, K. J. Wright, Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril, Malcolm Smith, Brandon Mebane, Frank Clark, Chris Clemons and Bruce Irvin."

I know Fangio had his flaws but I think they would have been better off keeping him while getting an established QB like Wilson. His defenses seemed to give KC and LA some issues at times.

Belichick loooooves Jones: “Bert Jones was a tremendous player,” Belichick continued. “A tremendous player. Very athletic. He had an arm like no other, really. I’ve never seen a player with the kind of flexibility he had in his arm. The kind of whip and accuracy. He had a quick delivery. He was a tremendous quarterback in an era that was a little bit different. But if he played today and was healthy, [we’d all say], ‘This guy’s really good.’

Once he hurt his shoulder, he was never really the same, but it wasn’t like he was ever not a good player. Some guys are up and down or whatever, but he was always good.”
