The final player traded from the #Broncos to the #Seahawks is Noah Fant. The #Broncos believe in Albert Okwuegbunam taking over. That's the trade folks.
Wow. That's a TON to give up. I like Fant a lot and adding him to Lockett and Metcalf as weapons? Plus 4 picks in the first two rounds? I'd trade for Jimmy G in a heartbeat and suddenly the Seahawks could be much better off.

That's more than I would have imagined Seahawks would get. But QB;s are playing longer nowadays.

Even with Carr being a rung or two below the other three, this has to be the greatest collection of QB talent in one division in a long time. Ever?
Brady and 3 scrubs is still better

Brady, Brees, Ryan, and whoever was in Carolina in 2020 is surely better.

Ehh. I'll take Brady over Mahomes, but not by enough to make up for how done Brees' arm was or how much better Carr is than Teddy. Ranking Ryan, Herbert, and Russ is a fun exercise but I think the overall 2022 AFC West package is pretty unprecedented in the modern passing era (ie from Manning on).

Here
ESPN Sportscenter glossed over this and going all in on Rodgers, which is really kind of weird. This seems like kind of a big deal.

Fant is a solid get in this deal for Seattle, as is the #9 pick. Another, likely low first? A couple of 2ds? Denver gives those up gladly to get a QB like Wilson with two years left on a reasonable contract. This seems like a pretty fair deal overall. With the team Denver has, they have to make this deal to get a QB as good as Wilson. I agree that Seattle could go get a guy like Jimmy G and still compete, but they won’t have the same ceiling.

They've really lost their ability to adapt on the fly. Once they have their rundown in place, many of them are lost if something breaks

Boy do I have some mixed emotions. The only thing I'll say right now is they better not waste the #9 on a QB in this draft.

I really like this for Seattle. I’m not sure Wilson isn’t cooked. Sure he could return to all pro form… but he looked pretty bad down the stretch.

I'm not sure I see where SEA is going?

They recouped the picks they traded for Adams I guess? Added a decent TE and some seconds?
Unfortunately they now have a gaping hole at QB and none of the reasonable options for trade/draft make them contenders, and they are loaded with vets with 1-2 years left on their deals.

It's hard to be much worse. Wilson was under siege all season behind that line.
One thing I will say.... Russ makes a lot of his own danger. You could put him behind 5 All-Pros and he'd find a way to walk into pressure.

I think this has the chance to turn out as the best least bad option for the Seahawks. Russell all but said he wanted to move on. He has two years left on a big deal and wants a new deal. Seattle had to get something for him and they got a decent haul.

Add in that he is 33 going on 34 midseason and has been sacked more than anyone else for years. I just don't know if I see him aging well.

I never really understood why he wanted to leave Seattle. Carroll is a good coach, the team has been up and down, but it's generally a pretty well run franchise. He's a hero there.

Any insights, @DanoooME?

This is just my speculation, but I think he felt his voice wasn't being heard in terms of how the team was developing. I also think he and Pete clashed a bit when it came to offensive philosophy. Russ wanted to open things up more and Pete didn't. Each had a good point at times.

2009 NFC North had a pretty good group:
Min - Favre (HOF; Pro Bowl; 4th in MVP voting)
GB - Rodgers (Pro Bowl)
Chi - Cutler (a year after making the Pro Bowl)
Det - Stafford (rookie)

Obviously at all stages of their careers, but on the whole, that's three SB-winning QBs, one HOFer (Favre), one obvious lock for the HOF (Rodgers), one who, thanks to his SB win this year, might be a HOFer (Stafford), and one guy who I never loved but who was regarded as being pretty talented, who did make a Pro Bowl.

Favre and Rodgers are both top 10 all-time greats. So that's a pretty talented group. Not all in their primes, obviously, but still.

Or 2001 AFC East:
NE - Brady
Ind - Peyton
NYJ - Testaverde
Mia - Fiedler
Buf - Van Pelt

Obviously a massive drop-off at the bottom, but that group is headlined by probably the #1 (obviously) and #2 or #3 (Peyton) QBs in history, and Vinny who was a 2x Pro Bowler who put up pretty big career numbers.

And why would SEA be looking to trade Metcalf?

Trading Russ doesn’t mean it makes sense to just shop every good player.
Because the team has no QB and no obvious path to the playoffs and he's in the last year of his deal. Paying a WR (especially one like Metcalf who is a bit one dimensional) a ton of money without a QB is a bad idea. They should be shopping him hard for a 1st.

This is really the critical factor in the deal. Dude has taken a ton of hits over the years.

I see him being on the Roethlisberger aging trajectory much more than the Brady/Brees model.

I thought he had another year on his deal, but on second look it turns out he’s not eligible for the 5th year tender because he was not a second rounder.

I have to think Wagner may ask for a trade, but, then again, who knows?

Fun trade.

I would wait until the Seahawks WRs can't catch a Drew Lock pass & depress their value before trading for one.

He's good enough to franchise I'd think.

On Wilson he really is older than I thought (maybe because the years pass faster and faster)--was shocked to see he's turning 34 this season. I still make the trade--even 2 or 3 years of a great QB is totall transformative for a franchise--but not sure that this will be a huge deal on the field four or five years from now.

Saw the other day Wilson claims to spend $1 million a year on his body. Despite his playing style, he seems like the kind of guy who will age well.

Best QB traded was probably one of these:
Brett Favre... yes he was 38, but he also had just finished top 3 in MVP voting
Fran Tarkenton?
Norm Van Brocklin?
Warren Moon
Jay Cutler?
Bledsoe
Joe Kapp was essentially a trade and, like Bledsoe, was the highest paid QB.

Oh, wait you said best.

Yeah but most of that is on concussion water.

I'd say Seattle made out pretty well considering. AFCW is going to be a tough division for the next few seasons.

As for Lockett, He just signed a new deal last offseason. Seattle would take a $28M hit in a trade and his salary is only $3M this year. With that contract Lockett would fetch a pretty big ransom but that's a lot of money to swallow.
