RIP Toucher and Rich Show ... It was fun while it lasted

That’s funny - @toucherandrich is still “abandoned”, but Rich switched to @touchernrich.

While I’m here, I’m gonna vent about a dumb Fred tic. He’ll be interviewing a good guy like Socci or Giardi, doing his thing where he pushes against their innate niceness with his innate humor / weirdness / bitterness. Tried and true, almost always makes things entertaining. But invariably it’ll be time to wrap the interview, and he always takes the last word. And that last word is like the most extreme version of whatever he was playing around with. So like:

“Mike, the Pats are really bad.”
“They’ve got a lot to work on, Fred.”
“How can you see any positives?”
“There are a few things. Hopefully they can build on them.”
“Well, they suck and honestly the Patriots really are just terrible, terrible people. Just horrible. OK Mike Giardi, read him in the…” /end interview

I guess it’s “funny” but unlike most things on the show it seems very shock-jocky. I want to hear the guests through a T&R lens but it gets very editorial if Fred doesn’t like what he’s hearing.

Yeah... if I take a glass-half-full approach, Fred and Rich often speak about how Beasley is pressuring all staff to generate clicks and develop content on various platforms. I see this a Rich saying... hey, this was more my personal account than a show account, so if you want show content pushed out more frequently, then take the account over and put your own plan together.

I guess my point is there has been a lot of opportunity for Rich to address the smoke by just saying, "Hey guys, this is just something coming down from corporate", or something like that. But he sees all these comments (on Twitter) on people assuming it's the end of the show as we know it, and he's been pretty silent. That's what makes me think it might go beyond just a Beasley thing.

This is at least the seventh The Sky is Falling incident with the show. Each one bumps ratings but for a shorter and shorter time frame.

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t listen to T&R very much anymore because I work from home. And I like them a lot when I do.

I’m sure the drama is real but this is getting boring. It seems like people are talking about what’s going to happen to the show more than the show itself.

That’s a problem.

So basically everything was true. Wow Rich never even told Fred it was his last day. Rich seems like a lunatic.

Fred, Wallach and Lockhart going forward. I like Lockhart a lot but I’m not sure this is going to work with Wallgame in 2nd chair.

wtf happened?! I missed the first 7 minutes or the show and expected them to open with talking about like their morning dumps.

Did Fred open up with "hey guys let's talk about rich leaving?"

I can’t imagine after 17 years you do yesterdays show like normal and go home and don’t tell anyone you work with you are leaving and won’t be there tomorrow. That’s so fucked up in so many ways.

FYI it sounds like at 8 they're replaying this entire segement (which, for those of you who aren't up yet, is Fred breaking down pretty much exactly everything that happened.....which sounds like exactly all the stuff we knew about all along)

Fred didn't say the new show would be these 3. He referenced a lot of talent in the room, excited about the new show, etc. Unless I missed it, he didn't say it would be these 3 moving forward.

Give me Fred Hardy and RJ...(I know it won't happen)

Or Keefe and I’m happy with either.

What a disaster. Unless the second chair ends up being Hardy, I don’t see myself listening to the next incarnation of this show at all. I hope Rich makes an effort to explain his side of the story somewhere. I can’t believe he left the way he did.

Listening now. They are saying that they don’t even think Rich knew?? Huh? So did he get effectively fired?

Casual follower of T&R and this thread, but it seems to me that Rich absolutely carried the show for the past 3-4 years. Fred doesn’t deserve to “win” if that’s what happened.

Fred said they offerred Rich a multi year deal that included a raise.

From what Fred said there's definitely a list of people "inside and outside of the building" in the running. That makes me optimistic it's Hardy or Keefe. I really really really hope it's not Big Jim Murray who's the absolute worst.

I hope Finn is working hard on finding out the details on this. Crazy that this is absolutely the biggest Boston radio story since Matty's ousting and he's had zilch.

Is there really anything? Rich had enough of Fred and. Beasley. Didn’t take a pay raise and left. All the stories were true. It’s a pretty complete picture.

If it is true what Toucher said that Rich didn't even know about being out immediately, my guess is Rich was planning for a farewell tour near the holidays with the new show coming start of next year. But with the way Rich has been starting on the social media accounts and the rumblings already out there, Beasley thought the next month could be a shitshow and pulled the band-aid. Unfortunately for us, as I think Rich could bring a lot of comedy out of his IDGAF period.
