The Fred/Stevens thing has been brewing for awhile now. When the Udoka stuff broke, remember someone with the Celtics called a higher up to complain about the way Fred was alluding to who the staff member was? Even though he didn't even do that, it was a total joke and he did absolutely NOTHING wrong. He had a classic rant about the Celtics and dealing with Stevens then so it really isn't surprising that it's coming to an end.
Fred does this thing where he will try and assert himself over some guests, with some humor mixed in, and if they don’t play along and submit Fred spins that into them having a problem. Stevens never said anything out of line. It’s a boring interview as are the majority of interviews like that regardless of who it is. Ainge’s interviews were nothing special but they try to glorify the old Ainge interviews to try and throw “sHaDe” at Stevens. Rich still holds a grudge for Stevens not falling for his oh so clever phrasing of how he tried to get Stevens to disclose who wasn’t vaxxed. “But..but… I was asking a basketball question about who is ineligible to play in Toronto!!!” Like he isn’t adept enough to sidestep that one.

And it was never established that anyone actually said anything about their Udoka coverage. He walked it back after ranting the whole show and admitted that he didn’t even know if someone said anything. Sounded like some stawman crap Fred pulled out of his rectum

*could care less about the Celtics for the most part, just been listening to this show long enough to know how these guys tick

teasing Paulie D coming on the show today. Rich said it probably will not happen "but there is a 2% chance"

I've never heard Fred happier than when he interviewed Snooki, so I really hope this works out.....

I listen every morning at 6 and I had a feeling he would be out.

Hang in there Fred, it gets better. I went through a divorce, too. Everything will get better.

Absolutely. He's brought a ton of joy and entertainment to my life and I only hope the best for him. If he ever still glances here, I hope he knows that there's a bunch of people who are rooting for him even if we're just weirdos on a message board.

Just heard Rich’s take on the B’s clusterf*ck situation. Probably the most eloquent one I’ve heard so far. Glad he was able to come in to say it. And I hope his wife is ok. Oh and hang in there, Freddy T!

What time was it? I’ll have to check the podcast. Once I hear neither of them are in and Jones is on it’s an automatic shut off

Fred posted a few tweets last night that were not good. He posted the text of a text message his wife supposedly sent to him. I can't remember the exact wording but it was basically he is an asshole and worthless. It was harsh. The tweets weren't up long.

Though again, he had me laughing out loud when I went to his Twitter page to check on updates and noticed he has David Bromstad from HGTV's My Lottery Dreamhome as his cover picture.

I hope he is doing OK.

Damn, I didn't see the text but saw the other two. I hope he is doing alright.

Fred sounds great this AM. No Rich though (yet)

But glad to see Fred is awake, happy, lucid etc. Don't know what's *really* going on, but he (outwardly) appears to be in a good spot.

Sounds like Joe Murray got a job and can’t fill in anymore. Hopefully that doesn’t mean more
Adam Jones. They mentioned last week they were trying to get Dan Roche for a day

Really illustrates the discrepancy in pay between the haves and have nots in the radio biz. T&R and F&M are handsomely compensated, as they should be. Most everyone else has to hustle to get by. Tough industry.

This morning’s segment with the DA show was off the rails. It took a bit for them to get to the punchline but the payoff was worth it

Michael Holley is filling in for Wallach today. I listened for two minutes and had to shut it off. He’s as boring now as he was 10 years ago (the last time I listened to him).

I’m trying to wake up, not fall asleep.

I didn't catch the beginning of it, but is Holley going to be on regularly when Wallach is off doing the Celtics?

I caught a few minutes this morning. I like Michael Holley. He was one of the only reasons I would tune in to WEEI outside of Red Sox games. It was a bit surprising to hear that he finished up at WEEI in 2018. I thought it had been more recent than that but time flies. I liked his interaction with Fred and Rich. I found their discussion of WEEI in its heyday and 98.5 as an upstart to be interesting. I especially enjoyed that all three have a self deprecating approach to sports radio as a medium.

Holley is the classic media person who is better contained to a half hour TV show than a 4-hour radio show. Tends to beat things into the ground when there are no time constraints, and he definitely had worn on me by the end of the Dale & Holley run. But I definitely enjoy him in small doses.

Ditto. I was pleasantly surprised to hear his voice this morning and I was wondering if this was something that had potential to continue. Though I may be biased as I grew up listening to him and Dale on EEI through college.

Bit of a shocker getting in the car this morning to drop my kid off at school and lo and behold am greeted with the soothing dulcet tones of one Michael Holley.
Only listened for a bit, if he was in for Wallach was he also doing the sports flash updates?

I think Lockhart was handling the updates. Holley only stayed until 9am.

I get the impression they're trying to add a third voice at a more senior level than an update guy. They continue mentioning wanting to get Roche on the show in a larger role, and I doubt he'd be pursuing that to fill Jon's role.

I like Holley, but he's an odd fit for this show. Has he been a guest before? Has anyone ever been third chair and not in the update role?

Are they auditioning a replacement for one of the titular hosts?

This is just a wild ass guess on my part, but I think it would be for a 'Wallach plus' type role if he leaves for the Celtics job in a year or two. It would be good for the show, in my opinion, to have a third person available to keep some continuity when one or both of them is out through the year.

With that said, I have no idea how the station could afford Roche or Holley, but not Mike Lockhart...

Reminds me of the old "Big Show" days, where Ordway would just have revolving guest hosts on every day along with "IIIIII'm Pete Sheppid and that's the Ports Flassssssh!"

But that was when EEI had an unlimited piggy bank for that type of stuff, and I know Beasley, if anything, is looking to cut costs. But maybe the budget would be here for it if they are just using Wallach's lost salary. It's an intriguing thought. I like when T&R bring in guys like Ted Johnson and Breer for 1 hour fill ins to get some other more detailed opinions on topics. Wallach himself...is ok. But I could easily see this shift being an improvement over his role.

Agreed on all parts here. Breer on Fridays is good. Billy Jaffe is fun too. With Holley today, I got the impression that Fred wanted him to come on for a while and it just hasn't worked out. I think it was a one-off of him in studio and not something bigger i/r/t Wallach. That is still at least a year off.

Fred has said multiple times over the last couple weeks that he wouldn't be surprised if/when Wallach leaves they put in a entry level person in that job due to cost. He wasn't shitting on Wallach but more shitting on Beasley. Meanwhile, WEEI just hired Arcand to be the producer of their afternoon show. Give me Fred, Rich and Arcand everyday of the week if Wallach leaves.

I really would be surprised if T&R are at Beasley past their current contract. I wonder if WEEI has the budget to get them. Mike Thomas would take them in a second.

Holley also strikes me as being as straight as an arrow. Could be weird if Fred starts talking about things like sleeping with strippers and the D.A. fetish bit.

I think given time, he’ll adjust. Given that his prior experience was cohosting with Ned Flanders, I think he just needs to be coaxed gently out of his shell

I like Holley, but he’s not a fit with Fred and Rich. He knows what he’s talking about, which is more (sports wise) than T & R, but he took the energy level of the show waaaaay down. Fred is much too bombastic, neurotic and juvenile. Rich and Holley work well, but again the energy level isn’t what it needs to be in the morning.
