The goal of the draft is to add the best possible players to your team.

I'd take your opinion more seriously if you at least remained consistent. You've demonstrated that it's not any easier to remain objective regarding Miami's off-season moves as a Patriots fan, than it is as a Dolphins fan.

Dion Jordan weighed in at the combine at 246 pounds. "Need" aside, if you have the opportunity to steal the #1 defensive player on your board, you do it. Dion could end becoming a very special player.

I believe in Jonathan Martin. Or, finding out if Jonathan Martin is the guy. Upgrading two spots on the line and having to replace Martin next year, if he sucks, is the right long term move. A pro bowl or all pro caliber guard and a dependable, above-average RT would help them immensely for the next four years.

If Martin really sucks, you shift Watson or put Will Yeatman (do they still have Yeatman?) over there to cover his worthless ass.

When reports first surfaced that Albert-to-Miami would happen for a 2nd-round pick and big money, you called Ireland an idiot. When a deal didn't take place, you wrote: "If Detroit and/or San Diego get shut out of OL help, they'll likely spend the 2nd round pick and then we'll have an entirely new reason to think Ireland is a dummy." You then "hoped" the Dolphins would trade up for Johnson, saying you'd "be overjoyed if the Dolphins cash in multiple picks to get at Lane Johnson when they could do something much smarter." But that didn't happen, either.

And now that Ireland took your "advice" and is letting Martin have at it? You're still taking the time to remind us that Ireland's a moron.

That's some pretty spectacular troll work for someone minus an agenda.

Still, I'll engage you.

Regarding Ireland's path to Martin, it's important to remember that the off-season doesn't happen in a vacuum.

Belichick stuck to his price on Welker, set a price for Walker, and then rolled with the punches by drafting Dobson and Boyce. Similarly, Ireland set his price for Long, was interested in Albert for the right compensation, and refused to reach for Lane Johnson when neither Joeckel or Fisher slipped. At worst, he knew Martin could serve as the team's LT, and he's now brought in a solid RT in Clabo.

The new WR is way too expensive and an objective asshole of a person; the OL added are old, not-so-good guys like Clabo and Louis; the LB shuffle just created cap hits for little on-field upgrade; the "best" WR was traded for mid round draft picks (Bess); they lost a very public bidding war for Jake Long for reasons that don't seem to be all about the money; trading up for a 225lb-in-college LB who plays the same position as Wake and Misi; I could go on.
Mike Wallace is an asshole -- because he held out? What else has he done for you to consider him a shitty individual?

Clabo turns 32 in October, was ranked 14th among all tackles by PFF in '12, and was signed to a 1-year deal. Since when is 32 old for an RT?

Bess had an average season in '12, was going to be a FA after this season, and he was unhappy with his role last year. Hartline was clearly Miami's best receiver, and with Wallace and Gibson added, Bess was slotted to be the Dolphins 4th wide-out. The trade was in the best interest of both parties.

I think Ireland over-spent on Wheeler, but the LB swaps, along with the addition of Dion, have the potential to make the Dolphin's defense more versatile/dynamic. Dansby (who's yet to find a new team) and Burnett were solid, but set to be FA after this season; and none of the cap hits prevented Miami from making the necessary moves this off-season.

If Tannehill makes the 2nd year leap all Fin fans are hoping for, this team will contend for the playoffs this season. That's all Miami fans expect.

Presumably, sf121's point about Wallace is that he is a shitty individual because he made a bad joke about gays.

I'm sure that sf121, when Brandon Spikes makes a big stop, says "gee I want to cheer right now but Brandon Spikes is a shitty individual"

Wallace didn't post a joke. SMH. I'm not much of a Brandon Spikes fan as a player or a person but I do cheer for the laundry.

Not to further derail this thread, but "shitty" is qualitatively different than "asshole" and it's shitty to rephrase something in a more inflammatory manner to make a shitty point about cheering for laundry and/or hypocrisy.

But to super clear, I didn't like the Wallace signing for financial and football reasons, and said so, and intentionally placed his status as an objective asshole second.

It's pretty amazing that you quoted my entire post, which doesn't use the word "asshole," and then post this fucking tripe.

edit:  Also, in general, the point is not just the question of loyalty.  The thing is, every team has guys that post and do stupid shit on twitter and I'm sure more than do stupid shit in the privacy of their own lives.  The idea that it affects the way the team will play is pretty well unproven and in the end, if you are going to be so righteously indignant about it, then in general you are bound to be disappointed because no matter what laundry they are wearing, these guys we cheer for are just guys, and some of them are shitty individuals.

Sorry, time for moderator hat.  You are clearly trolling this thread and it's time for you to stop.
Dion Jordan played in college at ~225. Players routinely pack on weight in the run up to the combine so ~245 sounds reasonable. And he could become a "very special player". But he wasn't very special in college. And you don't "steal" anything when you trade up to #3 to get him. If Jordan is better than the picks/players he was traded for, it's a win but it's not a steal.

And why is need aside?
I've been consistent about one thing - Ireland is an idiot. The original bad decision - not having a plan in place at LT this offseason has produced multiple almost-transactions that have been worthy of criticism. Setting a price on Long would have been fine - what's worthy of criticism is budging on that price when STL proved serious. Trading for Albert would have been fine - but balking at his contract asking price after letting rumors of an "agreed upon trade" stir for weeks was worthy of criticism. When the trade up to #3 was announced, you thought it was for Lane Johnson - that's worthy of criticism.

Doing the whole do-si-do at LT this whole offseason hasn't been a public endorsement of Jonathan Martin, has it? So yeah...I said go with Martin a long time ago. And I've criticized all of the subsequent false starts Ireland committed at that position. The only thing worse than an unproven, young LT prospect is an unproven, young LT prospect the team has spent all off-season trying to upgrade, unsuccessfully. Really instills confidence in the guy. Mismanaging players, publicly, is worthy of criticism.

OK on Bess - I forgot about Gibson. Is Hartline in the slot?

But the bold is really my problem with Ireland, and your defense of his offseason performance. Nothing he did prevents Miami from doing things this offseason. But Wallace's deal, plus the LB shuffle, plus the loss of a 2nd round pick (to get Jordan) WILL hinder (not prevent, hinder) Miami's ability to do things in the future. THAT has been my consistent criticism - go back and re-read our exchanges about the Ellerbe-Dansby moves. I'm an asset allocation fanatic. More than once I have criticized Ireland for acting like a short-timer who is not concerned with the future. Look at what below average GMs who are allowed to sacrifice the future for current year gains do to teams - Marty Hurney in Carolina, Tannebaum in NY, etc.

If Tannehill gets killed because of this LT mismanagement, Dolphins fans will have only Jeff Ireland to blame.

Huh? They traded one second rounder to move up 9 spots in the draft. NINE. By all accounts, that's an absolute steal. You can disagree with the selection of Jordan at #3 overall, but getting another pass rusher was at, or near the top of the NEED list. Jordan has the speed and athleticism to be a game changing presence against the pass. His versatility will also allow Coyle to move him all over the field. With quarterbacks with mobility being the new trend of the league, more and more, guys like Jordan will be utilized to help answer.

Moving back to the original point, Ireland took a proactive approach in revamping the LB core. Dansby was aging and declining and wasn't worth the salary he was being paid. He was also an almost definite cut at the end of this coming season. Burnett was solid, but again, on the wrong side of 30, and getting expensive. You can argue that try paid out a bunch of money and they aren't going to see a big increase in on field production, but I would argue that Dansby and Burnett were already on the decline, whereas Ellerbe and Wheeler still have upside and room to grow.

How can you argue that he is not concerned about the future when he jettisoned two established veterans for two younger, potentially better players?

You called Wallace an asshole of a person ... I'm not sure how that differs from referring to someone as a shitty individual. The name-tags are synonamous.

Miami moved up 9 spots ... for the Top-3 overall pick. In comparison, the Rams traded the Bills the #16 overall, as well as their 2nd and 7th round picks, while also swapping 3rds, just to move up to #8 overall. It was a fantastic move by Ireland to secure the player he coveted; a guy with the potential to be the best defensive player in their entire draft.

Considering you didn't know that Brandon Gibson was in the fold as Miami's new slot receiver, I doubt you're aware of how the Dolphins' FO structured any of their new players' contracts.

Dawn Aponte, the Dolphins VP of Football of Admin., serves as the Fins capologist and is very highly regarded. Many have written that she the front-runner to being the first female general manager.

Miami will be cheaper and younger at a lot of positions next season. Dallas Thomas will most likely replace Incognito, who's in his last year and making 5.4 million. Jamar Taylor and Will Davis, just drafted, are expected to hold down 2 of the top 3 CB positions. Randy Starks, franchised at 8.45 million this season, will likely be replaced by the significantly cheaper Jared Odrick. Dmitri Patterson and Richard Marshall (10 million total) can be cut for minimal dead money, and Keller (4.25), Grimes (5), Clabo (3.5) are all on 1-year deals. There's plenty of cap flexibility.

This'll be my last post in this thread. I forgot about Gibson. If you've read any of my posts, you know I follow the cap and since I've specifically argued with you about contract details I can only assume that you do think I'm trolling and not trying to have a discussion where we're not just waving pom-poms. Sorry to clutter up your thread.

This is small thread year-to-year, created by a handful of Dolphin fans who also happen to be Red Sox fans; but I've always loved the fact that it's the one place where Patriot fans chime in with full transparency. It's a nice addition that the larger Dolphin-only sites can't offer. That said, when a Pats fan, such as you, becomes one of the thread's primary contributors, contesting every single FO move, I can't help but think that you're a troll ... or the biggest Patriots' homer ever.

You don't like one freakin' move Ireland's made this off-season? Not one?

I re-read this entire thread, and you've played devil's advocate at every turn. Hell, Baltimore got a 6th round draft pick for Bolden, and Ireland managed to grab a 5th + change for an average slot receiver buried on his depth chart, and he can't get a little love from you?

Anyway, just wanted to explain where my thought process was coming from. If you ain't trollin', feel free to keep at it.

We'll have to wait to the regular season to settle most of our agruments.

We wn't know how good this offseason is for a year or more. And really it won't matter much if Tannehill is still the 26th rated QB in the league. The weapons he has now are better than what he had last year, so that should help. I think the consternation over the line may be overplayed. Is Martin elite? no, but either was Long. Clabo is servicable. The C and guards should be good. and they have more depth/flexibility on the line than ever before.

The defense? who knows. Could be elite, could be a mess given youth and lack of leadership. ITs definitely faster and younger than in past. not sure if that is meaningful. its built to play to the Pats, that's for sure

If Tannehill improves to top 15 in league, the Fish will be over .500 and contenders for the playoffs. Thing is, their schedule early is a lot harder on paper than it is later. and I think this team will be a lot better as season progresses. they have to survive that brutal early stretch, but if they do, watch out.

edit: this roster is a lot more of what Philbin wants as well. These next two years will speak volumes of him as a coach and his system

This in my humble opinion is why I think judgment can largely be reserved on Philbin and to an extent, Ireland, until next season plays out.  Ireland spent the last couple of years setting the team up for this year's draft and the series of transactions that preceded it (as well as those that wind up succeeding it).  Certainly cases can be made for or against each of the individual moves on their own merit, but both men were given license beyond what Ireland was given when he initially came to the front office to develop a plan for building the roster their way, and I think they've taken a systematic and defensible approach to that.

Is there a go-for-broke factor also driving Ireland now and are there still some important positional questions to be answered?  Of course.  But I think under the circumstances of jobs being at stake (for Ireand, at least), they have held the course remarkably well, with a good mixture of conviction and flexibility.  Far more qualified people than me have and can continue to analyze the management of this team in the last 18 - 24 months, but I think it's quite reasonable to be more optimistic about the Dolphins competing for a playoff spot than any time in the Ireland era, and probably even the last decade.

And if I'm wrong--well then hell, they'll be moving to L.A. in no time anyway.

LOL. I agree with your premise. the NFL is so QB driven that if Tannehill regresses, they will be blowing it up again in a year or two. If not, they are positioned to contend for the next several years

My short post was a bit misleading. I really wasn't placing much value in the ranking, but rather the content of the article, which is extremely complimentary of RT's talent and potential. By the end of Tannehill's career, I'm hoping he surpasses the accomplishments of both RGIII and Wilson, while creating a "Who's better?" debate involving Luck.

The Dolphins will host free agent FB Vonta Leach on Wednesday.
Leach has a coaching staff connection in Miami; offensive coordinator Mike
Sherman was on the Packers and Texans' staffs when Leach played there.
The Fins' current fullback is Jorvorskie Lane, but Leach would be an
enormous upgrade as a lead blocker. His addition would be good news for
Lamar Miller. Jun 11 - 6:50 PM

Update per rotoworld:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports it will be a "major upset" if free agent FB Vonta Leach doesn't sign with the Dolphins.

"[The] Dolphins want him too much," added
Schefter. Miami has been the most logical fit for the 31-year-old, but
money is going to be the deciding factor. If we've learned anything
this offseason, it's that GM Jeff Ireland will shell out cash for any
player he feels he needs. Talks were reportedly "heating up" last
Friday, but cooled over the weekend as the Giants jumped in. Leach said
Monday that he's in "no rush" to sign, so this could drag out for a few
days.

I hope this deal gets done soon. Leach would be a huge upgrade at FB and would improve the short yardage running game considerably. He's a tough SOB.

Vonta still hasn't signed, but not a big rush. He's waiting for Giants to raise their offer. I wonder if Fins interest is more for pass blocking than run blocking. Maybe means Miller still hasn't figured it out yet?

Hart line and others gushing on tannehill's improvement. I hope so.

Barry Jackson threw out a few nuggets in his Sports Buzz column regarding Mike Wallace's ability to run short routes and his high YAC average on short catches--he led the league a couple years ago on yards per attempt for throws of 10 yards or less.  Apparently the statistics and at least a few players and commentators support the idea that his short game is underrated.

I'm very curious to see what Philbin and Sherman have in store for him, although I suspect we won't get to see much during the preseason.

I always thought the notion of him as strictly a deep threat was misguided. There's plenty of film of him taking a slant or a drag route and turning it into a 50+ yard TD. While taking the top off the defense might be what he's best at, he's plenty good with the ball in his hands and in space. I believe Tomlin said he was a one trick pony in a press conference and that notion has sort of stuck.

And yet, in that column, Bill Cowher is quoted pointing out that Pittsburgh regularly used him on quick screens.  Curious as to why Tomlin would say that, unless it was real early in his Steelers career.

Anyway, I'm increasingly excited about the potential for creativity in this offense.  There seemed to be a glimpse of it early last year with Bush as the primary back.  Hopefully this year as they stretch the field they can take it to another level.

i think that the Fins decided to make the big move at LB to help rush the passer and be faster in downfield coverage, things specifically targeted to stop the Pats. Now, the Pats might morph into a power running team in big spots.

If this team can just get through its first four games in good shape....

The hype machine has been in full gear this entire off-season, which is always worrisome. Remember the '11 Bucs' squad? The Miami talk from the players had subsided quite a bit since May/June until now, and Ellerbe showed some caution with his comments, but I wish the team would just shut the fuck up.

Even with the Patriots horrific off-season, Brady/BB should lead NE to another division title. I'm just hoping the Fins are in the conversation. Perhaps they can cause a little scare in the division and grab a Wild Card spot.

Dee was responsible for the business side of the Fish, so his tenure was basically a failure (season tickets, marketing, getting stadium funding, etc).

Training camp opens this weekend. The things to watch for (not in any order):
 - Tannehill's progress and chemistry with Wallace, Keller, Gibson, etc
 - Martin's performance at LT and who wins RG spot (hopefully not Jerry)
 - where does Dion Jordan fit in?
 - can Lamar Miller pass block well enough to be a three down back? (Vonta Leach is still out there, but Fish are waiting for now)
 - with Grimes and Matthews locked in at starting CB, which of the rookies becomes the nickel guy?
 - who starts opposite Clemons at safety?
 - where does Odrick fit in?
 - who becomes the leader on the defense?
 - how will new defensive scheme work?

I'm sure I am misssing some things. remember the Fish play the Cowboys in the HoF game on august 4 (16 days from now!). PFN suggested the Dolphins were the 23rd best team in the league. I find that hard to believe, but if Tannehill doesn't improve, that may be right.

Are you referring to Richard Marshall, who will most likely be starting opposite Grimes? I could see Marshall moving to nickel corner on 3+ wide sets, with Carroll or one of the rookies (Taylor?) playing on the outside. At 4.5 million/per, Dmitri Patterson has to clearly separate himself from the pack to make this team, right?

Reshad Jones is written in at SS with a permanent sharpie; it's Clemons who will be facing competition from Kelcie McCray and Jimmy Wilson. I'll be looking out for Jordan Kovacs, too; he was a fun player to watch in college. He'd be great on special teams.

For me, I'm really curious to see how quickly the LB core (Ellerbe, Wheeler, Misi) get comfortable and produce as expected. Can they make tackles as well as well as last year's group, while also becoming a "play-maker" unit (sacks/turnovers)?

LOL, yeah on reeshard, who is probably the second best player on the D. Clemons is fighting for the second spot. Richard Marshall is expected to start. I think with Patterson they keep him around as insurance in case he's best of bunch but still restructure. What's the point otherwise?

Omar Kelly insists that the two rookie CBs are not expected to start nor play much in the beginning. Basically that means that none of their first five guys are expected to start. strange for a 7-9 team.

The issue in keeping Patterson as just a safety precaution is that the 4.5 million he's owed this season could be rolled over and used next off-season if cut. The several players due significant pay raises and a number of players set to become FA, every dollar will count. I'm cool with keeping DP is he's going to consistently see the field. But that's a lot of money for backup. If he were cut today, how much would another team sign him for? 1 million tops, right?

In other news, per rotoworld:

Dolphins signed No. 3 overall pick Dion Jordan to a four-year contract.
There was some speculation that Jordan may miss a couple days of training camp as the two sides try and hammer out a deal, but he avoids a holdout. The Dolphins wanted offset language installed in the contract, and they reportedly got it. On the field, Jordan is expected to play right end and outside 'backer. Jul 20 - 3:15 PM

That's two years in a row that Ireland got his top pick to agree to offset language in their contract. Tannehill for his foot, which turned out to be a total non-issue, and Jordan obviously for his shoulder. Good for Jordan recognizing he's already behind the 8 -Ball after missing OTAs and not holding out.

Looking forward to the start of camp. I'd like to see Taylor show up and push for the second corner position. Patterson is an expensive piece that could/should be cut.

Looking forward to hearing about Grimes v. Wallace all camp. Those two will make each other better.
Want to finally see Jordan and Taylor, our top two picks, see some action.
Need to get Reshad Jones locked up. Don't mess around.
Obviously want to see how all the new pieces on offense fit together. See if Armon Binns continues to show up.
Really want to see Lamar Miller look good. A lot is riding on that.
Really want to see Jonathan Martin not suck. Going up against Wake, Jordan, and Vernon should be a decent gage to his performance.

Agreed on most of what's been written above, not just in terms of what to look for and what to hope for in camp this year, but also in terms of wrapping up contracts and hopefully, as one of you mentioned earlier, keeping mouths shut and quietly focusing on football.  No distractions.  No Chad Johnson/Hard Knocks-style B.S., no blustery/hornery head coach nonsense, not the mini-circuses of the Brandon Marshalls and Ricky Williams of recent years past.  And please god, no arrests.  Just shut up, play football.

I'm optimistically seeing this as a 10-6 team if Tannehill stays healthy and shows progress (knock on wood), but I'm an admittedly Dolphinscentric fan so I'm basing that more on what I see on paper on this squad and how it compares to last year as well as the rest of the AFC East than anything else.  The Dolphins clearly look like the 2nd best team in the division and can finally start forcing the Patriots to look over their shoulder.

Did I mention the importance of Tannehill staying healthy and showing progress?

So after roughly a week of camp, we have learned a couple things:
1) the o-line is a mess and the coaching staff is trying multiple combinations with guys playing two or three diferrent positions. Martin got abused in the scrimmage and practive by Wake, Vernon (much improved) and Dion Jordan. Dallas thomas has been very good. Caleb, Pouncey are only guys locked on the line right now (scary)
2) Tannehill has been better but not great
3) the rookie CBs are not threatening to start
4) Wallace and hartline haven't done much yet
5) wheeler and ellerbee are playmakers and will be bliztzing a lot more than what Fins fans are used to
6) carpenter is ahead in the kicking competition
7) Miller is the starting RB and gilles looks like a player
8) Keller has dropped half the passes thrown to him, but he's been open a ton. Sims will play as well
9) the defense has a chance to be a top-5 unit this year, especially if they can create more turnovers

HoF game this sunday night vs Dallas. whoo hoo!

I expect the DL to be a devastating unit.  Moving Odrick inside (to his natural position where he can utilize his quickness) and rotating him with the likes of Soliai, Starks and Randall will have a huge impact on the overall effectiveness of the interior line (especially in passing situations).  In addition, the apparent growth of Vernon on the outside is a welcomed sight.  I didn't think he had it in him to become an effective pass rusher at this level, but he appears to be proving me wrong.  Couple that with the early reviews on Jordan and the blitzing ability of the two newly-acquired LBs (Ellerbe and Wheeler) and I think opposing OLs are going to have a nightmare of a time game-planning against this front seven.

Josh Samuda appears to be making some noise early in camp.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting Week 1 somewhere along the interior of the unit.  He has a tremendous combination of quickness and power.  Obviously there's more to being an effective lineman (see: Thomas, Donald) but its a great start.

Jonathan Martin has me worried.  And the lack of any semblance of a Plan B at LT is even more concerning.

Cleaver, I wouldn't call the entire O-line a mess. Jerry got injured early in camp, and the staff is tinkering with the best way to replace him for the time being. I also think it'll end up being Samuda, perhaps even permanently.

The only concern on the line right now, as mentioned, is Jonathan Martin; and it's a pretty big deal when you're LT is possibly your weakest OL. You know, the guy meant to protect the blind-side of your sophomore, franchise QB.

Media members observing the last couple of practices have reported Martin struggling immensely, which has sent panic all across Miami. While you don't need an elite LT to win in this league, having an average one certainly helps. If Martin can't be that, Dallas Thomas could be starting by mid-year. Not exactly a warm and fuzzy Plan B. I won't start losing sleep until the 3rd pre-season game.

CC, stop following Omar Kelly. Tanny's looked good in camp, especially considering his two top WR have been handled with kid gloves of late. Not worried about Keller, either. Still, none of the practice gossip really means anything. Looking forward to seeing both in preseason games.

Mc', I'm also excited about this defense. The D-line is as deep as ever and the new LBs seem to be adjusting well. Love the versatility Wake, Vernon, and Dion bring. The secondary is also deeper this year -- Grimes replaced Smith, Marshall returned, Patterson is healthy and performing, Nolan's got another season under his belt, and the rookies are starting to see the field. Davis, of late, has been a star practice performer.

The way things look now, Ireland was a Long re-signing away from a perfect off-season.

The reports on the defense are really encouraging. The new LBs Wheeler and Ellerbe seem to come exactly as advertised. I agree that moving Odrick back inside is a big boost. Reports have been very positive on him.

The reports on Jordan and Vernon have me excited too. Everyone seems to think that Vernon is taking his game to the next level. Couple that with the fact that Jordan has looked every bit the #3 overall draft pick, and Miami is going to be a terror getting after the quarterback.

The reports on Will Davis have me really surprised. Everyone considered him to be a big reach when Ireland traded up to get him in the third. He's gotten his hands on a lot of balls, and more importantly, he's held on to a lot of them. Three INTs yesterday? Outstanding. He may not be a shutdown corner, but he's definitely shown he has a nose for the ball and can create turnovers, something sorely lacking in recent years.

Martin is a bit of a concern, but I won't be in a panic until after a few exhibition games. If he's still getting whipped by other teams, and not Miami's fleet of pass rushers, I'll be a bit more concerned.

Also, file me under not concerned about Keller or Wallace. People are complaining that Tannehill and Wallace haven't been hooking up deep and Keller has been dropping passes. These guys are proven vets and we're ten practices in. They'll be fine. Wallace and Tannehill are still developing chemistry. What's amazing is Tannehill has been somehow overthrowing Wallace on the deep routes. I didn't recall his arm strength being in the elite category when he was drafted, but he can definitely sling it.

Ready to see this team in action against someone else. Really hyped about the D, and I think the offense is going to be just fine.

While I think there still time for the "revamped" O-line to progress leading up to the regular season, the thing that makes me lose sleep is the ever-present threat of further injuries.  If what they're doing right now is Plan B, it's a bit unsettling to think of what might happen if another lineman goes down.  Speaking of, I don't think I've seen any reasonably specific estimates about Jerry's return--has anyone else here?  Anyway, while I do look forward to watching preseason games, mostly they just stress me out.

As for the defense, will the Dolphins have to revive whatever validity there used to be in the antiquated adage "defense wins championships?"  Or put differently, if the D lives up to its top 5 potential, does an average offense/QB get them into the playoffs?

LO, there isn't a more self important writer than Omar Kelly. I follow him, chris perkins, armando, james walker, eyesofftheballs, darlington  and most of the national guys.

game tomorrow night. no wallace, maybe tannehill for a series or two. not sure if jordan gonna play. probably best to watch the o-line and see who plays where at the CB/nickel spots. Romo not playing, he obviously heard about what Wake, Vernon and Jodan been doing in practice :q:

Haha, I still follow all those guys and Omar, too. Kelly rides RT like the dude stole his wife and kids. I guess there are writers like that in every community. He tweets at such frequency, that he contradicts himself at least a half dozen times per day.

I'll be paying the most attention to the O-line performance, as well as the play of the young players in the secondary.

What, no one's interested in the fiercest and most intriguing positional battle on this year's team?  It's the kickers.  Dollars v. experience?   My money's on the kid, although Carpenter has looked better in camp.  Riveting stuff.

So the starting O and D will be playing 2-3 series each, then 2-3 for the 2nds team, then rest will be guys fighting for the last 10 spots on the roster. No wallace, hartline, vernon and a couple others. Want to see the RBs, too. I think Gilleslee might turn out to be a nice player. and also if McNutt or someone can grab the 4th WR spot. sounds silly, but Philbin offenses get a lot of the 4th guys and TEs and H-backs

oh yeah, and Sturgis v Carpenter.

Now that Sturgis is back from his groin pull, I think Carpenter has to clearly be head and shoulders better than him to make the cut. As of now, it appears to be pretty even, which is bad news for Carpenter.

Want to get some eyes on Will Davis. After hearing the reports in camp, I want to see how he plays in an actual game. Also, really want to see Jordan on the field. See if he can beat someone besides Jonathan Martin.

the kicker on this team is actually a big deal. with a good to great defense and an offense that will take some time to find itself, a bad kicker could cost this team a win or two easily

Tanny running for his life.

Unis could use some work as well. Hue is a little bluish, and the orange is basically gone. Helmut stripe not workin' for me. They look more like the Panthers than the old Dolphins.

Not a great start. Martin looked like shit, and Miller lets the ball hit the deck on his first handoff.

On a positive note, Jordan looked good while he was out there.
