Was expecting more wit from Portnoy there. Seemed like any two bros yelling in the street. He kept trying to hit him with that “your shirt is 6 sizes too small”’ line.
This is what I don’t get about his success and the people that follow him. He’s not funny. He is an asshole and talks loud in a Boston accent but he doesn’t have any wit. This is the guy morons choose to follow and hang on his every word? I don’t get it

Methinks Mr. Portnoy is about to learn an unpleasant lesson about copyright infringement (though those shirts won't sell enough to really be worth fighting about).
Eh they have never really been in trouble before that I know of. I think the strategy is they sell as many as they can until they get a Cease & Desist then pull them from there store before further action is needed

A lot of the other content they put out outside of Portnoy is pretty good. Pardon My Take and the Fore Play guys are great.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
I watched the video and I don't think Dave really did anything wrong. The owner initiated the confrontation, shouted random crap at Dave with nothing to back it up with and it escalated from there. Whether you like him or not, he did raise a lot of money for small businesses in need.
If you're the millionaire doing a spot-review in front of someone's pizza place to get clicks, IMO that's enough for you to be required to hold out an olive branch to the guy and take the high road. Kill the camera, calm the guy down. It's not too difficult not to be an escalating shithead when your presence is clearly causing the conflict.

Methinks Mr. Portnoy is about to learn an unpleasant lesson about copyright infringement (though those shirts won't sell enough to really be worth fighting about).
A copyright infringement case isn't capped by how unsuccessful the infringement was. And that tweet's basically self proving. Someone will sue him just for fees and to scratch it off a bucket-list.

As I mentioned, the place had a line out the door today around 12:30 when I went there for lunch. Couldn't see any Barstool d-bags around, but the manager (not the guy from the video, he wasn't there) told me their phone was ringing non-stop from blocked numbers, which he figured where all Portnoy sycophants. Pizza was actually really good to, the cheese was just fine, pretty saucy which I like. The sausage and ricotta was delicious, the giant gobs of ricotta work perfectly with the sauce, cheese and bread. Would 100% get a full pizza of that next time ($28, by the way, for a half-cheese-half sausage and ricotta pizza).

Another white-owned business with a "sando" on the menu? Get fucked.

Of course but there’s a lot of people that follow him like he’s some hero. I overhear a lot of “you see what el prez said?” around my extended group of friends and at bars all the time. Big Cat is very funny. PFT is very funny. A lot of others are pretty clever or witty. I’ve never seen anything from Portnoy that I find remotely funny. He’s just an asshole for the sake of being an asshole. Which I guess goes a long way with some people

Pizza reviews was the last thing I gave up when following the BS empire, but I'm glad I did. The confrontation almost seemed contrived because of how quickly the owner came out of the store after the review, To the point I wouldn't be surprised if it was planned. Portnoy's bumbling insults almost felt Trumpian in their silliness.

Dragon is a lot better at making a pizza than Portnoy is at anything. He’s an asshole and appeals to people’s worst instincts. The Dragon owner is spot on in this video, and we would be wise to treat Portnoy like Shank and simply ignore him.

It seems fake to me. The pizza shop owner is a terrible actor - the way he first came out there and confronted him seemed very scripted to me.
There is now a line out the door of the pizza shop, and Portnoy has more content and views.

What’s wrong with sando? Honest question as I’ve seen it several times on menus.
I was wondering the same thing.
It's a weird - and wholly unnecessary - adoption of a Japanese term for a sandwich. I've seen it used a few times in boujee spots - I've actually seen a $13 "baloney sando" on a menu. Gross.

Unless you're operating a Japanese place, just call it a fucking sandwich.

It’s a shortening of the word sandwich. Claiming it’s anything beyond that is foolish.

Interesting. I had no idea. I think it’s possible some of these places just abbreviated sandwiches to sandos. Kinda like sammies.

The whole thing, with "Dom" walking in then the apparent doctor or nurse with scrubs on followed by the "F you" off, felt like a very SNL-ish skit of a stereotype Boston street scene. I wouldn't be overly surprised if it WAS staged.

Hmm interesting. There are numerous eateries in my general vicinity that put "sandos" on the menu, and the owners are generally progressive and thoughtful folks otherwise. They probably just see it as a shortening of "sandwich" like I previously did.

Thanks for the Google suggestion. Hadn’t heard of that place.

So all these places that have “normal” sandwiches that look nothing like Japanese sandos but use the term sandos are doing what exactly? Wild thought, the owner probably has no idea what a sando is but has heard the term and thought it was whimsical so they thought “Hey, that seems like a fun thing to call my sandwiches.” So they did.

I also have no idea what you’re alleging outside of showing to SoSH you’re cultured. Sick, you know stuff about Japan.

It's "cute?" It's "quirky?"

Also, are all restaurant owners fucking idiots? I'm guessing more than a few of them have heard the term. People who work with food tend to, like, know stuff about food - even types of food they don't make! Wild, I know.

Also: me talking about what the Japanese call sandwiches is, what, showing off? Bozo Texino - the Ruth Benedict of SoSH.

Jesus Christ, dude - just take the fucking L.

I don’t deny it’s a thing. I disagree with your premise that in the US it’s (1) primarily an adoption of a Japanese term and not a shortening of the word sandwich and (2) it’s somehow weird, wholly unnecessary, gross (all your words) and something that needs to stop. Your attitude towards this reads as getting annoyed to get annoyed.

Some owners probably know it’s a thing. Most don’t. I feel confident most consumers are not confusing what they’re getting when they order a $13 “BLT sando”.

They're getting a $13 sandwich with a dumb name. That's it.

Feel however you want. But again - Google the word. What comes up? Nothing but Japanese sandwiches - usually pork katsu (which is delicious).

I get the impression that you think this is me being super "woke," or something. It's just me thinking something is fucking DUMB.

You're being pretty silly here, for absolutely no reason.

An L has been taken in this exchange, that's for sure.

No I think you’re super hipster. Hipsters are super annoying about innocuous things.

The woke comment adds to it.
See, I thought hipsters frequented restaurants that call sandwiches “sandos.” How weird.

Clearly unrelated: my italics look all out of whack in previous posts. Is that a ChromeBook thing?

100%.

I remember, during one of the many stupid Portnoy controversies, he was railing against some employee who left and was talking about how this employee wasn’t funny and that Portnoy considered himself a comedian. It absolutely blew my mind that’s how he thought of himself

I think it's dumb as well. It's another language's shortening of a transliteration. If you're making the exact item from their culture, then fine use the word. But using it because you think it sounds cute or hip is annoying.

Isn’t this kind of cultural assimilation a good thing? I wouldn’t have known anything about sandos if not for that board.

Yes.. he does remind people a lot of the one good thing the Barstool PR team put together. Usually they spend their time defending Portnoy from sexual misconduct allegations.
I don't really give a shit about him but Portnoy was all in with supporting Peter Frates before it was "cool".

Frates ran around with a bunch of guys at BC who knew / wrote for the Barstool newspaper and given Portnoy’s “kingmaker” ability to make things viral I wouldn’t be so dismissive. The ice bucket challenge didn’t just go viral because people randomly found Frates Vanilla Ice video. I don’t really care to research who or what led to it blowing up but it’s very plausible Portnoy was at the forefront.
