Rethinking Barstool?

Sorry, I misread your response. I was being sarcastic and thought you said it wasn't coordinated. Apologies.

We have dinner scheduled in Davis Square with some family this week. Can't wait to bring home some Dragon Pizza.
I'm still confused. You're saying that thinking this wasn't coordinated is a conspiracy theory?

No, I believe the owner had nothing to do with it.

And yes, if you think this was coordinated, that is at least conspiracy-theory adjacent, right?
We're talking past each other. I don't think it was coordinated and thought that you were accusing me of being a conspiracy theorist for thinking so.

I think we are! I blame myself. Enjoying a sunny (not so hot) morning at the beach...the glare and my attention span sucks. Also, I should probably get off my phone!

I tolerated Portnoy during Deflategate because we had a common enemy but he really is a gigantic turd.

I thought you said youse were all right Spider.
Brilliant.

That fucking guy started showing up on my youtube feed. Playing slots at $50 a spin. I'm not counting but I think he down a bazillion dollars and I'm down about an hour watching this guy losing money..

Is he a house shill?

Seriously WTF?
All of the gambling content on social media blows my mind and makes me wonder what's really going on. Guys routinely losing 6 figures playing poker, people playing $10k hands of blackjack, guys claiming to bet thousands of dollars on parlays, these crazy slots players... it's wild out there. I assume a lot of those people are at least partially comped.

I think that they’re mostly lying.

It’s a shortening of the word sandwich. Claiming it’s anything beyond that is foolish.
You're objectively incorrect. Google the word "sando" and get back to me.

"Sammies" is fine. "Sandos" is stupid.
If the etymology of this usage is Japanese, then that’s pretty much what it is: it’s a shortened version of the Japanese adoption of the english word “sandwich.” サンドイッチ→サンド (“sandoicchi” which in practice is usually pronounced without the final “i” and often with a very subdued “o” so that it pretty much sounds like “sandwich”→”sando”).

Anecdotally it seems to me that the longer version is more prevalent here in Japan.

Whenever I see a video of barstool people live streaming a game and losing their collective minds because the score just hit the over or some other betting parlay it just feels so staged.
It’s viral marketing. The idea is that if these schlubs are betting so much money and are so invested, they’re having fun (even when they lose it’s a great story to tell the boys, because EVERYONE loves hearing gambling stories) that you’d be foolish to not be like these guys.

Plus you’re smarter than them, you know the winners. So have fun, get invested in your team and make money while you’re at it.

The good life can be yours, real simple.

I look forward to the day Portnoy fades into oblivion like the 90s radio shock jocks that came before him. His heart must be a ticking time bomb from only consuming pizza, ozempic, and cocaine.

Barstool falls somewhere between monster truck racing, small regional professional wrestling, and discontinued energy drinks to advertisers. The fan base is appealing to Tucker Carlson who is desperate for younger fans because most of his Fox audience was alive during the great depression, can't work their desktop PCs, and have no relationship with their families.

Edit- barstool is also cool to the absolute lamest ESPN personalities over 50.

Lol didn’t someone here just pay $30 for a pizza at that place? Yeah, just like Fugazi, who famously charged high prices for their tapes.

“Every decision we make around here is, what would Fugazi do if they ran a pizza shop?,”
Don't have a dog in this fight but that's got some heavy douche chill vibes.
Yeah, I'm not a Portnoy or Barstool fan, but how can a 50 year old dude running a pizza shop in a suburban neighborhood where you can't buy a single family for less than $1.5 Million these days compare himself to Fugazi with a straight face. Fuck that dude too.

(And like Bozo, I also like Fugazi. )

How many times have you felt like a pizza
Sitting in a case gathering crumbs
Full of toppings already chosen (how bout now?)

They have a punk-rock theme to the restaurant, but $28 for a speciality pizza, in a trendy neighborhood that is filled with biotech employees isn't exactly Fugazi.

The guy should have cited Minor Threat, no pricing issues and decidedly cooler.

Free pizza? Sweet! So punk rock! Because that’s what Ian MacKaye would do, or at least charge cost.

To paraphrase the dearly departed Khosrow Vaziri "Portnoy a dumb sonofabitch. Dragon Pizza for pepporoni jabronis. The New York Pizza in Malden is THE REAL. Have a good day."

where I was last at
I literally have no idea what the last 30 or so posts refer to.

None.

Thank you.

Although if getting attention for his once again wholly owned social media platform by fabricating and then slaying a dragon slice by slice was Portnoy's real goal, I'd give it a 8.2.

It refers to Bartsool. It's a company that does a couple of great podcasts, a lot of very bad podcasts, is littered with a bunch of cretins, slobs, and low lives, and is led by a piece of shit who seemingly has no talents but is somehow a success in the media business. That leader does pizza reviews and he thinks he's funny and he's just a disgusting idiot. During one of those interviews, things happened.

You are now all caught up.

Meant to post this earlier but read something where Barstool laid off 100 people last week, roughly 25% of their entire staff. That's a wild cut down.

Wow, that’s the most obsequious thing I’ve ever read. Fuck that was like reading those Arms of the Angel commercials in blog form.

The guy is 43 years old and as far as I can tell from 15 minutes of Internet searching has been trying and failing to find any kind of entertainment-related employment since he was posting on here from his job as a minor-league mascot. This is not a job he can afford to lose, so I don't blame him for bending the knee.
