They have Bergeron, Marchand, and Pastrnak all signed long term for under $7m AAV. That's really incredible when you think about it.The B's get 2 UFA years, Pasta gets to hit UFA at age 28. Dollars come in below Krejci and Bergy but above Marchand. I think under $7mm was a huge win for the Bruins. Good stuff all around.
Drop the puck.
https://www.nhl.com/bruins/news/tyler-seguin-signed-to-six-year-contract-extension/c-641195It's a nice change to see a skilled young player get locked up here on a long-term deal.
Now if we can just avoid trading him for a few lesser guys...It's a nice change to see a skilled young player get locked up here on a long-term deal. The Bruins need more guys with Pasta's skillset, glad to see they got him back into the fold.
Good counterpoint. Allow me to clarify: Seguin and Hamilton are gone hither and yon in rather acrimonious ways. Hopefully Pasta will not follow in their footsteps.
I'm right there with you on that one (I was just giving you a hard time).Good counterpoint. Allow me to clarify: Seguin and Hamilton are gone hither and yon in rather acrimonious ways. Hopefully Pasta will not follow in their footsteps.
Chiarelli payed 2m more for a guy who has similar production to Pasta. While that guy is a C, so probably should get a bit more, 2m is much too big a positional premium.I don't follow the hockey transactions as much as just the games. Someone explain "Chiarelli is an moron" to me so I can sound informed when I talk to my kid later. He's a bit more of a hockey guy than me.
Having said that, I didn't need to check the thread to know this was a win.
He signed a similar player, Leon Draisaitl to an 8 year, $68m deal (8.5 per year) which was more than was generally expected.I don't follow the hockey transactions as much as just the games. Because Pasta and his agent used the threat of the little leverage they had to try to get some extra years/dollars. In the end it didn't get them anywhere because of the fact they had little leverage, but you can't fault them for trying. No harm no foul here.RIght where it should have been the whole time. You gotta wonder why this took so long?
I'm guessing the lockout protection was complicated to work out. And the lack of urgency on Pastrnak's side until now.RIght where it should have been the whole time. You gotta wonder why this took so long?
Makes him more tradable.Good news. This will be a bargain by the end of this season.
This can't be said enough. I'm starting to wonder if that first off-season came about because, despite being in-house, Sweeney was dropped into a critical stretch of time and had to handle things he hadn't before, particularly contract negotiations, on the fly.Gotta give credit to Sweeney too. 2 years ago he traded Dougie before July 1st for below market value rather than face the threat of an offer sheet. Now he waited out Pasta and stared him down and it worked out well. Good on him.
That was probably part of it [the Hamilton trade, et al], given that he was dropped into the middle of a raging dumpster fire. He had a lot of bad contracts, and guys like Marchand and Eriksson and Rask having paydays on the event horizon. And I'm assuming there was probably a lot of mixed opinions about Hamilton's game. And I can see Neely going purple and pounding his fist on the table saying "We need more grit now. Back in my day, we had guys like Zach Rinaldo and Jimmy Hayes to carry the team. Go get 'em Donnie".This can't be said enough. That Backes contract is gross. These are the players the Bruins now have signed through the 2020-2021 season:
Bergeron
Krejci
Pasternak
Marchand
Backes
Rask
Thought this was bump-worthy this morning.Good news. This will be a bargain by the end of this season.
