Pretty good stuff eh? Considering all I have been through in the past year (and if you know P&G at all you know what I'm talking about) getting fucked in this is pretty par for the course - but we expected that going into this with our draft slot. At least there wasn't a construction worker porno in this and I don't have to write anyone a $30k check to GTFO my house. Laugh or go insane! Am I right?!

Last years RFP Patriots were a young team with a lot of talent. Even though they made the playoffs they had a few weaknesses and the offensive line was by far the biggest one. Time to make a big upgrade to that line.

The New England Patriots select Zack Martin, OL Notre Dame

He's everything you want in an offensive lineman. Versatile (can play Tackle or Guard), agile, strong, smart, tough (played and started in 52 games) and nasty. He's a punishing blocker with a strong punch and great footwork. At 6'4" 308 lbs he projects as an elite guard but he could be used at tackle where I think he could excel despite his size. For now I'll slot him in at LG where he should be a solid protector for Foles in the passing game and should open up holes for Lacy in the running game. The Patriots are very happy to get this kind of talent at 21.

The Bears select WR Brandin Cooks .

I already have a bevy of weapons, including two premium outside targets (AJ Green, VJax), but I could use some high-volume punch out of the slot.  I'm a big fan of Cooks - I think he will thrive in my offense.

Arguably, defense was the right play here, but I do not want to pass up a guy like Cooks.

EDIT - Mascho PM'ed.

I keep waiting for people to do dumb stuff so players I like will slide to to 46, but it hasn't happened yet. I think I'm going to need a backup plan.

MMS, you have my favorite QB in this class. As much as it sucks to see him go I wish you the best of luck.
Same here. When it's all said and done Bridgewater will be the best QB to come out of this class, and by far.

Things are calming down a bit in Ashburn.  Mr. Snyder spent all day pouring over the rosters of the teams picking before the Sentinels, and when Cooks made it to MM, Snyder ordered the champagne put on ice.  There was no way Chicago would draft a WR with Green and Jackson already in the fold.  No way.  We were going to get Flacco that final piece and have our entire offense in place.

Sigh.

However, there are other positions of need here in Washington, and we are extremely happy to address one with this selection.

The Sentinels select:  CB Darqueze Dennard

Here's what people have said about Dennard.

"I don't think the Bengals expected him to be available. Dennard is the best press cornerback in this draft. He fits what defensive coordinator Paul Guenther wants to do. He is one of best pure football players in this draft." - Mayock

"I think it's one of the better picks of the first round. He could've gone 10, 11, 12 and nobody would've had any argument at all." - Kiper

A three year starter at MSU, Dennard's senior season was his best.  He was a consensus All-American and the first Jim Thorpe Award Winner in MSU history.  On passes over 15 yards he allowed only 3 receptions on 31 attempts.  He is fantastic in press coverage, physical in the run game, and showed consistent numbers throughout his career in East Lansing.  He'll step in and become our Number 2 corner across from Kareem Jackson.  That gives us two young and talented corners to build our secondary around.

PM on its way to sf121.

How should "the window" be managed? It is an ever-present topic of conversation on this board. The selection of a backup quarterback, instead of anyone else, seems to have driven phragle into some Michael-Douglas-in-Falling-Down rampage, filled with multiquotes, new ignore list members and pledges to stop reading...now.

Having the privilege of Tom Brady in this league means I have a massive, on-going focus group on team-building to consult. And I have tried to act accordingly - building a WR corps that would make most BBtL posters drool. A premier slot option, a quick, young Deion Branch clone on one edge, Dwayne Bowe's size and blocking on the other, with Steve Smith as the ornery veteran.

One thing the focus group is agreement about is that Tom Brady is not Wolverine. He will not last forever. Playing past 40 is his goal...which means we ain't got a lot of time left. And with age, comes some slight erosion of physical skill and an increased need to protect the aging GOAT. The Patriots went with lots and lots of beef in the draft, getting bigger and more physical in what seems like an effort to shore up the interior line and keep Brady from being under too much pass rush pressure.

So...to find a top 15 LT in the NFL in 2013 available with this pick is truly amazing. Youth is nice. I'm sure Matthews and Robinson and Lewan will all be good, someday. Chances are they won't be great in 2014...which is why they weren't first on my board. LT is a spot most people invested in early last season and some did it often, tabbing two LT and playing one on the right. In real life, that's a transition most (but not all) can make. So, I was quite worried I would be limited to a RT->LT conversion with this pick (Phil Loadholt moving), and that's a harder argument to make. Heck, I don't even really buy it. If Loadholt could play LT, the Vikes wouldn't have gone after Kalil. So...I'm very glad I don't have to make that argument.

Instead, the newest Bengal Bay Bengal will be moving from LT to RT because the oft-injured Ryan Clady is back for a short time to play LT and collect his huge paycheck. But this guy, Chris Clark, was more than adequate at LT in 2013 (PFF's 21st T overall and 14th best LT). Sure, he's 28 and sure, he bounced around a bit learning and developing before emerging last season as Clady's replacement. But he's moving to RT (and Orlando Franklin moving to LG) in Denver's attempt to shore up the line.

And I really, really needed an average LT. If Clark is half-as-good in 2014 and 2015 as he was in 2103, he's an excellent value for my team, right now.

It's going to be interesting to see what Denver does with their OL. Clark was a solid OT for them last year, but they've got Clady and Franklin back, who were their starting OT's at the start of last season. Maybe they plan on moving Franklin inside to OG?

By the way, I love the Dennard pick. He's my favorite CB out of the rookies this year. It might take him a year to get accustomed to the NFL, but he's exactly the type of corner you want in today's NFL. Gilbert has better physical skills, but Dennard is my guy.

Thanks man.  I really wanted Cooks because Flacco plus Gore/Bell plus Jeffery/Hopkins/Cooks plus V. Davis seemed pretty tantalizing.  But our secondary was such a gaping hole of suck and Dennard is probably the smarter pick anyway.

The Lions select Kyle Fuller - CB Virginia Tech , this was I kid I selected in our mock draft I really like what he could bring to our secondary. Leon Hall and Tillman aren't getting any younger, Fuller will have a chance to make an immediate impact next year. On mobile , can someone PM the next person.

That would've been one dynamic offense. I still think you've got enough offensively, though. I think Bell will take a big step forward this season to becoming a top back in the league, and you've got Gore and LGBT to compliment him. Davis, Jeffery, and Hopkins gives you a solid trifecta to throw to, with time to add more weapons. Meanwhile, you only had Kareem Jackson and Greg Toler at CB. Dennard potentially gives you that #1 shutdown CB, allowing Jackson and Toler to take on more of a complimentary role that they're better suited for.

And I do feel for you SMU- We got the short end of the stick drafting towards the end of both this draft and last season's. I'm not sure how that's going to even itself out in the long run, but whatever. It's pretty ridiculous that we're picking after teams who have established QB's like Brees, Rogers, and, for you guys, Brady. You have to be pretty bad at putting a team together to say you're worse than team's QB'd by guys like Ponder and Fitzpatrick.  I guess we're just that much better than everyone else that we can make up for the huge difference in QB play? At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

And yeah, I'm still bitter about getting screwed in the draft. There like 7 or 8 teams who picked ahead of us who know they have no business picking where they did. Whatever. Derek Carr is going to make you PAY.

You're right. Let me apologize Mr. #9 pick in the draft last year to take RG3 and then get the #3 pick this year to take the top LT in the draft. I'm shocked you guys didn't have a problem with how that worked out. So please stop bitching about my bitching and just let me bitch. Thanks.

With the practically last pick in the first round of whatever the fuck this thing is we're doing, the Browns select:

Josh McCown, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Are we stoked with this pick? Hell yeah! (not really)

Is he going to lead us to the promise land? Obviously! (Probably not)

We're in a tough spot, which you are all well aware of. We need a QB that can "win now". With the right QB, we have a Super Bowl contender. Any of the QB's coming out of the draft this year just don't accomplish that goal for us. Would they be better options for the long term health of the team? Maybe (although with the rookie leftovers, I seriously question it).

If this were the real NFL, I would never give a multi-year contract to this guy. Luckily for us, RFP is different. If he sucks this year, we throw him on the garbage heap and start our search again next year.

If McCown builds off of his 2013 numbers, our team could look really good. In only 8 games last year, PFF had McCown ranked as the 6th best QB in football based on their traditional stats. He was ranked 4th based on their signature stats. He threw for 350+ yards in his final 3 games of the season. He had an unbelievable - and unsustainable - 13/1 TD ratio last year.

While he isn't "the future" of this team, he has the ability to be a game changer on our roster. He should put up some pretty good numbers for Tampa Bay, who have the making of a great WR duo (Vincent Jackson / Mike Evans) and a healthy Doug Martin coming back form knee surgery.

We needed a QB that could step onto the field and get the job done for a Super Bowl contender. McCown was the only option we had, and we're actually pretty comfortable with him.

Basically we're looking for our Brad Johnson. Is this a sey pick? No. But he's a game manager who won't turn the ball over and make the smart high percentage plays. We have a good oline and RBs. Our offense is designed to grind away at opposing defenses and capitalize on turnovers from our defense. With Josh we don't have to worry about errant throws and bad decision making. He's also a guy whom can mentor a young QB when we decide to draft one. And if he gets injured we have one of the best backup QBs in the game in Ryan Fitzpatrick. If McCown can continue his later life success he is more than capable of taking us to the promised land. I don't think we'll have to defend our QB this year. We might even have a top 15 guy statistically when it is all said and done.

I went back and forth on this pick a lot. I was hoping either Dennard or Fuller would fall to me here, though I knew it was unlikely. With 2 NFL veterans and 4 2nd round draft picks already off the board I thought I would get a guy here that just screamed "VALUE." If this was the real NFL, or even next years draft I'd maybe look to trade back but since that isn't an option I'm going to fill a team need.

The 49ers had one of the best Ds in the RFP NFC last year. Though with two pretty large holes: CB2 and ILB. I think I have enough bodies at ILB that I can rotate guys in and out and get some average production there. Also with Landry laying down hits in the middle of the field I don't think my ILB are as much of a concern.
With the 29th pick of the 2014 Real Fantasy draft the San Francisco 49ers select: CB, Tramaine Brock

Brock, 25, was an undrafted free agent who has spent the last 3 years trying to find playing time on the real 49ers roster. Once the team wisened up and realized Nmadi was a shell of his former self, they finally gave him the job. He didn't disappoint. Playing only 13 games he recorded 5 INTs (tied for 5th in the league), finished as PFF's 15th ranked CB, and signed a contract worth 4 years/$14 million. The real 49ers secondary is a bit of a mess going forward but this guy is locked in as their CB1. I'm hoping he'll take this chance, prove he wasn't a one year wonder, and continue to play like a top CB in this league.

The Rams selected OL Joel Bitonio.

The only spot on the starting roster right now that is really, really bad is the interior OL. I had to protect Ryan Wendell, of all people. Vasquez is really solid at one guard spot, but Wendell may never be 2012 Wendell again, and Leary was supplemental filler. The tackles aren't great shakes either. Beatty is coming off a bad year and an injury in the last game to boot. Bushrod was average - although I think he'd perform better at RT in our offense than he has at LT for Chicago.

All that being said, we badly needed OL help, and we need a guy who can be versatile. I had my eye on Su'a-Filo too, but I think Bitonio is a bit better immediately, and has a wider variety of roles he can fill. I'd be comfortable sliding him to RT and Bushrod to LT if Beatty is shit, for instance. I wouldn't be happy about it, but I need that versatility given the state of the OL. Bitonio does a lot to stabilize things, and I'm glad he was available here.

There are a number of other areas to shore up, but this was our biggest need by far.

I like my defense a lot, but losing William Hayes to wibi means I have a hole at DE, and I could definitely use an edge rusher who can get to the quarterback and let Jurrell Casey and Jason Hatcher take care of things inside.  I'm going to go with a guy who might be a little undersized, but he thinks he's better than Clowney and he'll be perfect for our defensive line.

The Denver Broncos select.... Dee Ford, DE

He showed he can be a productive pass rusher in a competitive conference, and I love what he brings to the table for my defense.  And I love his attitude:

"I play with a lot of technique, I watch a lot of film, these are the things that make you a great player. These are the things I do, and it shows up, rather than -- this is all my opinion -- you can see these things on film. Go watch the film," Ford said. "There are a lot of intangibles that you need to have to be a great player. You can't just look at the fact that he's a physical specimen. I think the NFL should have learned that by now."

My secondary clearly needs a bit of help....losing two corners in the steal rounds has taken my secondary from solid if not spectacular to very clearly hole ridden...

I spent a long time debating between 3 players with this pick....2 are obvious, 1 maybe not...but at the end of the day I went with my first instinct

Jason Verrett, CB, San Diego

Verrett is undersized. But he is quick and plays with a chip on his shoulder.

I concur.

I mean, I am going to enjoy when Mike Glennon takes over for McCown in week 4 but there'll be time enough for taunting when that deal is done.
