long overdue, this man needs a safe space to educate the NBAI should start my own exasperated reaction videos every time someone posts this guy.
Exasperated SB Nation Commenter, more like it.Much like the blue and gold dress debate.
Exasperated Coach or Exasperated Video Room Guy?
I haven't enjoyed any of his videos. I find it irritating when people speak like an authority about things they clearly don't know about. which I'm guilty of all the time but, whatever - hypocrisy.Exasperated SB Nation Commenter, more like it.
I enjoy the videos because sometimes it's amusing to laugh at his over-the-top fury, and sometimes he makes a good point that is illuminating. I would never judge our team by his breakdowns, but I can also take the basic idea and get something out of it, and decide for myself if what he's picking on is likely to be tactical choices, player physical error, or player mental error. Either way, watch a breakdown by him of our opponents getting roasted by the Celtics, and tell me it isn't enjoyable.
What, you don't like him losing his mind every time a 7 footer gives up a contested step back 3 from Tatum?I haven't enjoyed any of his videos. He definitely has a POV, maybe throw it on mute.I haven't enjoyed any of his videos. I find it irritating when people speak like an authority about things they clearly don't know about. which I'm guilty of all the time but, whatever - hypocrisy.
Anyone that has ever played basketball understands that you can't go 100% out on defense on every single play, it's always extremely noticeable at pretty much any skill level in crunch time when the defensive effort hits a maximum level. His takes might make more sense if this was game 7 of the NBA Finals. Guys can't exert maximum effort on every defensive play over 82 games. Not taking into account players that are bad on defense and general laziness. But, some of the lazy play is just conserving of energy.
Chris Bosch was on The Distraction Podcast a year or two ago and mentioned not being able to walk after playoff games because the games were so hard on his body. You're not putting yourself through that in game 15 of the regular season.
Especially the high usage stars. Finding opportunities to hide and take a play off not only benefits the player but the team as well. Larry Bird was one of the best I've seen at this...LeBron is real good at it too.Anyone that has ever played basketball understands that you can't go 100% out on defense on every single play, it's always extremely noticeable at pretty much any skill level in crunch time when the defensive effort hits a maximum level.
Great offense will always beat great defense - sometimes great players can just make shots. All else equal, I want our guys playing better defense. Lower the percentages, tilt the probabilities in our favor, frustrate the opponent's intent by knowing tendencies and anticipating moves; induce errors. This dude wants every final score to resemble an Iowa football game score and be 19-11 or something. Jesus.
Get him a membership. He would fit in well with the doomsday they don't have what it takes posts when the Celtics fail to win every game in wire to wire blow out fashion. This dude wants every final score to resemble an Iowa football game score and be 19-11 or something. Jesus.
Yeah maybe not (with regard to bolded)Despite the exasperated persona, this guy makes really good points about positioning, which has little to do with whether someone is trying to conserve energy or not. The biggest takeaways I get from his videos is the blatant mistakes in positioning, picking up men in transition, pick/roll defensive technique, and the other errors in the fundamentals of defense.
I don’t expect every regular season defensive possession to have the same level of focus and the same energy level as the last defensive possession up one point, but I do expect sustained effort and consistent fundamentals.
As long as he's going to bust out lines like "This one bugs me to Middle-Earth!", to me it hardly matters whether it's intentional or unintentional comedy. Are we sure this isn't some kind of Plinkett Reviews-type performance art?
The Bulls looked completely defeated from the tip.As long as he's going to bust out lines like "This one bugs me to Middle-Earth!", to me it hardly matters whether it's intentional or unintentional comedy.
Shouted himself hoarse by the end of the video. If that's performance art, it is some hardcore method acting, that's for sure.
He's really getting closer and closer to a full-blown aneurysm. Does anyone know what his background is? Like how he acquired all these basketball terms and knowledge?the Nikola Vucevic highlight reel
The Vucevic trade is rarely mentioned as a heist in the Gobert mold, but it's sneaky up there. The Magic got Wendell Carter Jr., the pick that became Franz, and the #11 pick this past draft. Totally turned the Magic around, for a guy whose upside everyone knew was very very limited. This Bulls team is about the worst do of an “all in” roster I can remember….they are awful, have virtually zero upside, and every day they aren’t tearing it down is just risk.
Most of us noted when they made the Vucevic deal this wasn’t a good enough team to try that with, and the Ball injury was a big loss. But is an UGLY team and situation
At the time of the Vucevic blunder, Chicago basically had the pick of these 4/5s on their roster:The Vucevic trade is rarely mentioned as a heist in the Gobert mold, but it's sneaky up there. At least Gobert had DPOY upside (and we see Minny successfully utilizing that now). Immediately conveying the #8 pick (Franz) is just so, so bad. That #8 might end up being worth more than all the draft capital the Wolves send Utah combined, when you factor in the price of trading up.
But don't worry! They have the LaVine deal, and it's even worse!...
Handing Nikola $60MM/3yrs this summer was interesting. They will have to scrape that deal off the bottom of their shoes in a year or two by attaching more assets.
There's something oddly fascinating about this guy's screech. I listen to a minute or so of his videos and the content is trash (Vucevik should definitely be in the face of opposing centers 30 feet from the cup) and yet it's a combination of incredibly irritating and compelling -- sort of Howard Beal(e) in Network's "I'm Mad As Hell and I Can't Take It Anymore" but on an endless loop. I'd hope it's a Plinkett style performance art thing, but sadly I suspect it's just a pathetic Long Islander (is that what that accent is? Queens? I dunno...) who, when he isn't screaming at basketball players, is probably a Q enthusiast. And yet...I click play even if just for a few seconds. Are we sure this isn't some kind of Plinkett Reviews-type performance art?
I can imagine, just speculating here, that the lockerroom in Chicago is both checked-out and a bit toxic. They are going nowhere, they know it, and guys are going to get traded. That's tough for role players (who need some structure to perform well) and younger players. I can easily imagine practices are halfassed, Donovan is thinking about next college gig, etc. That review of the Bulls defense was brutal. Billy D might not see the new year as Bulls coach. His players have bought out.
What happened to Ayo? He looked very useful at both ends against the Celtics last season.
Laker Nation keeps talking about bringing Caruso back, but they don't have the assets (unless Reaves is offered). But don't worry! They have the LaVine deal, and it's even worse!
Maybe he also posts here?I lasted through a minute of that and I think there were 6 "Joe Mazzulla is terrible" lines. LOL.
The SoSH engine at workThis thread is generating like half of this guy's views
The video opening with JM being "an absolutely reprehensible basketball coach" is just perfect. I also like how he screams himself hoarse in six and a half minutes.I lasted through a minute of that and I think there were 6 "Joe Mazzulla is terrible" lines. LOL.
Mazzula’s teams were ranked second in defense in Mazzulla’s first season, and is second this year.I lasted through a minute of that and I think there were 6 "Joe Mazzulla is terrible" lines. LOL.
This makes a lot of sense. The Lakers harassed Haliburton for 94" with tons of on-ball pressure that impacted the Pacers' 3pt%. BUT there is no way they can play that defense over an entire regular season.Mazzula’s teams were ranked second in defense in Mazzulla’s first season, and is second this year.
Joe has decided to implement a lot of drop coverage this regular season, which of course would be more effective with KP at center. It’s probably a good idea to limit the amount of times that Porziņģis has to guard smaller offensive players out on the floor.
If this was a playoff game seven, I could see the frustration if Boston was just givping up open threes by being in drop. For the long-term benefit of the team, playing drop coverage is probably the way to go for much of the regular season. When push comes to shove, this team can play long doses of great lockdown man defense, with the big man switching out on the floor.
The challenged ISO off-the-dribble 3 is the least efficient shot when only 1pt is needed in a tied game
