I enjoyed Stijn talking about his struggles with command early on in the FCL season last year and what changes he is seeing with new pitching development regime. You’ll like it @JM3

Busy day of work today, so I'm not much past the point where you chose RVP over Arjen Robben lol

& then Ed had me doubting everything I knew about how to pronounce Curaçao, but it turns out it wasn't a me issue (it's "sow" not "cow"). Is Ed ever going to come back?

Oh, & someone really ought to set up a Stijn/Kenley meeting. That would be really cool footage.

At least Stijn recognizes the greatness of Arjen Robben lol.

Hopefully the new slider serves him well. Here's the breakdown on his season...

1st 3 games...

3.1 IP, 7 ER, 3 k's, 10 bb's, 1 hit, 2 HBP, 2 WP, 18.90 ERA, 27 bb/9.

Last 6 games...

15 IP, 3 ER, 11 k's, 5 bb's, 9 hits, 3 HPB, 2 WP, 1.80 ERA, 3 bb/9

Both lefties & righties hit .167 against him. He's my #99 prospect.

It was 100% an Ed thing on the Curacao pronunciation lol I will let him know he is missed here.

Might get our guy Rob Bradford to try to set that meeting up... He is tight with Kenley

That guy has resting announcer voice. Like really not sure what else he would do with his life when that's how he sounds in a conversation.
I always call him a game show host. He talks the exact same on air and off air lol

Solid episode, mostly previewing the Spring Breakout game.

I still need a better explanation on LDLR than "never put it together" when he had one of the best seasons among Salem pitchers last year as a 20 y/o, 3rd in innings with 70.1 & putting up a 2.94 ERA while ending super strongly as documented elsewhere.

& Ian saying he was disappointed "Nathan" Yuten wasn't in the Spring Breakout game riled me up a bit. Still a good listen, though.

I've been meaning to listen to this pod since last year since I love Hunter Noll's MiLB posts on Twitter & Jake is pretty good, too...

...but this just doesn't work for me. I couldn't quite place why until I started actively listening & I think it's all the verbal tics.

I think I heard a sentence with 7 "like" in it.

Paraphrase:

I like that like he umm like plays like umm like uh this other uh guy who like likes baseball.

It's too bad because it's obviously subject matter that I enjoy, but it's not for me.

Listened to this tonight. I enjoyed Mark Daniels on the Patriots, but if you're baseball only, Ian Cundall comes on around the 41 minute mark.

Was a good baseball convo - they're still falling into the fallacy of good offense/bad pitching when if you adjust only for park they were exactly average at both last year, & the lowest ranked prospect they talked about it any detail was Bleis, but yeah.

Also, Ian didn't seem to know that Montgomery can avoid being eligible for the QO if he waits until after the season to sign...of course, if I was a team offering him one of those 1+1 contracts, my offer would be lower as soon as you lose the QO.

But yeah, solid convo.

I’m glad I don’t get this kind of feedback with mine lol I know it used to probably sound bad like this but we have come a long way I hope.

I feel bad about posting that because I know doing a Podcast would be really hard & I'm sure I would be awful at it myself...but it's my honest opinion.

You have definitely become a lot more comfortable as well as more comfortable teaming with your co-hosts since the 1st episodes. I think what made your pod listenable even in the beginning when you were less comfortable is the fact that they were interviews, so even if the delivery of the questions wasn't perfect, there would still be a change of pace & someone's answer to listen to.

For a podcast to work for me it has to entertaining. The less entertaining it is, the more I have to learn about something. Unfortunately I've immersed myself so much into the Red Sox MiLB stuff it's hard to teach me things just by having an opinion, & the less smooth the delivery, the less listenable & entertaining it becomes.

Interviews with people you almost always learn something you didn't know about that person, & if those things relate to how that person will play baseball in the Red Sox org, I'm interested. & the smoother & more entertaining the hosts, the better.

Buuuut I only occasionally listen to your episodes that aren't Red Sox related because the interviewee doesn't interest me.

The other thing about you, Ed & Chris is that you have personal knowledge over the Worcester sphere and actual sources & firsthand knowledge, so I would probably listen to you 3 talk Worcester baseball.

The SoxProspects podcast works for me because it's pretty entertaining & well-delivered, & also they have sources & scout games & such. If it was only one of those things, not sure it would be a must listen.

I haven't listened to Ed's Down By the River pod or the Carrabis/Milliken pods, & I almost never listen to Bradfo. I should probably give them a try sometime, but most of my other Podcast listening time is spent on Baseball Bar-B-Cast, NBA podcasts like Group Chat & Lowe Post, & the Rewatchables.

Who they talked about with 1-word summaries which are by their nature not going to be very complete.

Hitters:

Teel (good), Johanfran (fatter), Blaze (leaner), Anderson (raw), Meidroth (professional), Mayer (smooth), Yoely (jacked), Arias (consistent), Starlyn (competent), Bleis (matured), Roman (preternatural), KCamp (handsy)

Pitchers:

Ehrlicher (athlete), EPlonks (interesting), LuCo (confident), Wehunt (off-putting), Early (projectable), Mullins (bullpen-y), Paez (traitsy), ERC (96), JWY (healthy), Sandlin (velo+), Dobbins (inconsistent), Zeferjahn (wild), Troye (power), Wikelman (movement), Fitts (pitcheresque), Guerrero (fast)

They were absolutely fawning over Cespedes, saying he will move up quite a bit in their rankings (currently tenth), the only thing keeping them from going all in is that they didn't see him in the field (currently at SS, writeup says he might eventually move to SS or 2B, which sounds like what they were saying about Xander when he was in the minors).

Yeah, he's dealing with a small leg injury so no fielding or running, just mashing.

I think I'm doing one more ranking update before the start of the season. Might move Yoely from 8 to 5 or 6.

Ha. The first time I saw Fitts this spring, my immediate thought was, "Man, this guy just LOOKS like a pitcher."

Maybe I should apply for a job there when I graduate next spring.

I’m with you on that. Podcasts are hard to do and there are a million of them out there these days.

I won’t ever sit in a circle and just talk about stuff because I feel you can find that easily already out there and from people who are way more qualified than me.

I like doing interviews because no two stories will be alike and that’s why I do every episode as an interview. I only get to see behind the scenes in Worcester but I guess I never did think to talk about what I see in the locker room. Just a lot of weird Ryan Sherriff stories come to mind last year lol

They talked about the 6-man rotation thing & how they did it in Salem last year... but they also did it in Greenville & Portland last year so I'm quite confused still?

But apparently Brian Abraham is in the Speier article saying it's for better side sessions. Who knows. Maybe they only started doing that later in the year last year before I started tracking it.

Agreed with basically all of Ian's opinions on WooSox stuff, including Gambrell's low upside, Benitez being the most interesting lefty & Guerrero & Kelly being the best righty relievers. Also am tempted by his C Note for SS take.

They're going to discuss the updated rankings next episode.

They were sad about Nazzan's haircut, but Andrew Parker asked him about it:

View: https://twitter.com/ByAndrewParker/status/1777711092522733756

"The change felt good. I wanted to be clean cut for my first pro season. Short hair is much easier to maintain and the locs were getting hot down in Fort Myers. I cut it the last day of ST and I came to camp the next day and everyone thought I was a new free agent pick up."

Oh gosh, Nazzan, too? Our HAR (Hair Above Replacement) rating has taken a big hit this spring, between Roman's butchery of Marcelo and now this.
