This will be the home for any Minor Leagues Podcasts & other media stuff you think other people might want to check out.

Examples include the SoxProspects podcasts (new episode out yesterday). Don't think they've posted it to socials, yet.

View: https://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/id/29010258

@sittingstill is our awesome liaison to SP & taker of great MiLB pictures.

Another example is the To the Show We Go podcast.

I believe their most recent posted podcast is with Worcester manager, Chad Tracy.

That particular episode is unofficially sponsored by Woodford Reserve Bourbon & every episode would be officially sponsored by Zaxby's if @byAndrewParker had his way. @edhand & @Chris "HEN-ri-KAY" are also part of the team for that Podcast. It's a good insight into all things MiLB & there are usually about 2-3 interviews per week.

I also have been enjoying the Prospect Bar-B-Cast on Wednesdays, but sadly no one from that show posts here that I know of.

This episode is a 2024 MLB Draft preview:

Big thanks for the intro! We have 5 episodes being recorded this week. Two Red Sox prospects, one Red Sox 40-man roster member, a former Red Sox prospect, and a top 15 Yankees prospect.

Farm Director Brian Abraham pod.

View: https://twitter.com/ByAndrewParker/status/1751266262901027314

I'm behind on my pod listening, but might get to some today.
Good guy to talk to about the system & how it works. But mostly non-answers & vagaries, which isn't surprising - he can't exactly get into details about his favorite prospects & ones who he thinks suck.

I'm a bit disappointed there wasn't a follow up question about the reporting they didn't use all their list spots for the MiLB Rule 5. & questions about Bonaci & Smil would of course been appreciated, but I'm sure there's limitations inherent in the ability to talk to these guys.

Abraham is a Zaxby's guy. Not sure what that says about his talent evaluation.

We wanted to keep it higher level since it was first time having him on. Still trying to build trust so we stayed away from the “good” stuff.

Yup, I totally get it. It's a fine line. Do you ever run stuff by guys in advance like that to see if different topics are things they're comfortable talking about? Especially if they're things they might want to debunk.

Was listening to ^ this morning.

Bryant was acquired from the Cubs for Josh Osich trade. Osich allowed 3 runs in 2.2 innings over 4 games with the Cubs before being released. I'm his 7 year career, Osich has a -2.4 fWAR.

Bryant, who missed last season with an arm injury, doesn't seem like he's ever really that likely to make it, but I'll still consider the trade a win.

Bryant, 25, is a 6'1 RHP who was drafted in the 15th round in 2019. He grew up in FL a Red Sox fan.

In '21, he pitched pretty well for Greenville:

48.1 IP, 3.54 ERA, 4.28 xFIP, 12.1 k/9, 3.4 bb/9.

But struggled greatly in Portland in '22:

33 IP, 7.64 ERA, 6.35 xFIP, 8.2 k/9, 6.6 bb/9

I was writing this up while listening to the pod & Ed started asking about his Greenville year at the same time. Obviously he wasn't prick-y enough in his Portland year...& then Bryant said that. Also, sore arm. This is some exciting live blogging that no one gets to read live.

Bryant mentioned turning a corner in Greenville.

Through June 6th:

10 G
13 IP
13 ER
16 hits
11 bb
16 k's

9.00 ERA, 2.08 WHIP, 7.6 bb/9, 11.1 k/9

After June 6th:

28 G
35.1 IP
6 ER
15 hits
7 walk
49 k's

1.53 ERA, 0.62 WHIP, 1.8 bb/9, 12.5 k/9

So there's definitely a good pitcher in there somewhere if he gets his arm right. He's supposed to be available in May if everything goes smoothly.

Something is up with Ed's audio quality in this one. Or everyone else's. Ed sounds really loud & not that crisp so it's a bit jarring every time he jumps in.

CFA BBQ sauce is mid, but the Polynesian is pretty elite. I don't like these glorified Russian dressing sauces, though. But if Andrew wants to make his own Zax sauce...

Ed’s microphone broke right after the Brian Abraham podcast and we recorded with Bryant 30 minutes after that. He has acquired a new microphone and will have better audio for the Corey Rosier pod this Wednesday!

To answer your question about running stuff by guys in advance, we typically don’t. We obviously are going to tread a little lighter with front office and management because if we don’t, they might not ever talk to us again lol. I apologize for the softball-ish questions on that one but it’s all about building that relationship.

I completely get it - just feels like another way to build trust & rapport is to find out in advance if there's something in particular he wants to say about a certain hotter-button subject on the pod (probably via email) & of course being completely respectful & not doing it if he doesn't want to.

But I haven't done journalism in over 20 years, so you'd have a much, much better idea of it than I would.

Dude, don’t put your love of Rosier all on me.

I’m actually interested if he’s a version of a type of player that comes back into use by teams as the rules changes re-emphasize baserunning and putting the ball in play, or will power always be the bigger factor for OFs.
I think a low power OF can be a very successful player, & they could certainly be a very useful 4th or 5th OF on a good team, which is kind of what one might project as Rosier's ceiling.

There's tons of different ways to get WAR & be a useful contributor. The question, to me, is if Rosier has those carrying skills. He's fast... but he's not a particularly instinctual defender & he has an average arm.

While I was thinking about his profile I just had the thought that he's very Dave Roberts-y. 5'10 LHH OF with ++ speed but not the best instincts in the OF.

There are some baseball things that I really hope to hear in the pod that would make me more optimistic on Rosier, so we'll see how it goes.

Not sure I have the best questions for him. I was more referring to the way I was hoping he'd answer a couple standard things, but I'll give it a shot...

1) What have you been working on in the off season?

& sort of related...

2) What do you see as your best path to a successful MLB career?

One thing you could mention as a follow up if he talks about his speed is that he was the SoxProspects Red Sox Minor League base stealer of the month in April, May & July this past year.

I wouldn't bother asking him this part, but had to look at the steals by month when he didn't get June:

April 10 of 11
May 12 of 13
June 4 of 6 (???)
July 11 of 13
August 10 of 11
September 2 of 3

https://soxprospects.com/players/rosier-corey.htm

3) You could ask him about this catch if you want:

https://www.milb.com/video/corey-rosier-robs-a-homer?t=playerid-681468

4) I'm sure you'll probably ask him about his Arizona Fall League experience & what he got out of it (including playing in the Fall Star Game).

View: https://twitter.com/crosier21/status/1720597043784360246

5) You could ask him about being invited to Spring Training as an NRI.

View: https://twitter.com/ggeiss_mlb/status/1751098247320338655

6) Christopher Smith did a pretty in depth interview with Rosier in April which might give you some good ideas of other jumping off points & to see how the things he was working on went:

https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2023/04/red-sox-prospect-acquired-in-trade-trained-on-empty-stomach-in-offseason.html

7) You could ask him about his struggles with lefties if you want...

.841 OPS against righties, .493 against lefties.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=rosier000cor&type=bgl&year=2023

8) & for Zaxby's purposes, there aren't any in his hometown Waldorf, MD (where Christina Milian among others grew up https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldorf,_Maryland), but they do have them in Greensboro, NC where he went to college.

If you hate Rosier so much, why are you interviewing him? J/k.

The good thing about not actually being on Twitter is I don't have to interact with these people. GG posts fairly thoughtfully about the system & transactions & I believe does entire mock offseasons. & if he's an insufferable human, I guess I'm lucky enough to avoid that portion.

@Chris "HEN-ri-KAY" & Jamie Gatlin did an Alex Speier interview.

https://open.spotify.com/episode/6NSC3nFEY3NS7KGPb6pGO8?si=sNbMFcBaSoqyPS7MTpQ9TQ

Not a ton of MiLB content, but when asked for a potentially overlooked Red Sox prospect he mentioned Mikey Romero & Miguel Bleis.

Speier asked the question back & Henrique mentioned Hunter Dobbins, ERC & Castro. Gatlin mentioned YORDANNY.

Overall a good interview on a variety of subjects with a balance between baseball & Speier's life... but not sure why it ended suddenly in the middle of a Speier story about Dante Bichette.

It was Forbes who called Rosier "chunky".

Rosier, 24, has hit .279 with 102 steals in 256 games in the minors with scant power. He altered his swing in 2023 and hit many more grounders – which is a good thing since he has the flat-out wheels to turn them into hits.

The chunky lefty hitter has a bit of Pete Rose in his game. He has a similar all-out approach, is somewhat ordinary in the field but much faster. He gets the most out of what he can – but just does not have the all-time hit king’s extraordinary batting skills. Still … with that all-out hustle, he may join the others setting the table for power hitters Rafael Devers, Trevor Story and Triston Casas.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckmurr/2024/01/20/prospects-rafaela-rosier-hamilton-boost-boston-red-sox-run-game/?sh=7b5bb2d73e4c

In the same sentence they did compare him to Pete Rose, though...

Rosier is a very efficient question answerer. Personable & quick, but brief. In hindsight, maybe more questions about growing up, high school baseball, other sports played, college, etc. might have been good if you wanted it a bit longer.

I like how Andrew threw me under the bus for my questions, taking no responsibility for being the one who was actually asking them lol.

Side note - I do take slight issue with asking only Rosier about 2Pac or Biggie, even though I understand it was a Twitter question. Maybe you could ask guys what kind of music they like & have an either or follow up prepared depending on their answer rather than... that.

Was mulling a good name for the one-off questions section (which isn't really one-offs since there are always fast food follow up questions), & haven't thought of anything too good, yet. If the actress Parker Posey was still famous "Parker Poses" or something similar would probably work. Which leads me to another meh idea..."Andrew Asks". Or in the opposite direction, "Fast Food Chicken & Other Super Serious & Important Topics".

I think we can do better, though.

Unusual intonation on Hoppe. Not sure if it's just an Iowa thing or a personality thing.

Drums over flats shows problematic taste. I'm still a Hoppe guy, though.

Think this one will be up your alley… Talked a lot about pitch arsenal and velocity. Could help you find him a spot on your rankings. Interesting guy too.
He's #201 of 274 at the moment, which isn't too bad for a UDFA, but I'll check it out, maybe this weekend.

I'm surprised you're out here pushing an interview with a Popeyes guy.

He'll be an interesting case study... he's the type of guy who would probably never play baseball again after college if it wasn't for the pitching development establishment out there.

How much of what he learned in the lab can translate to the mound & how much can be improved even further by the Breslow development lab?

He turns 24 in June & has never been a good pitcher before. I'm very curious how it pans out & it will be fun to follow, but I think my ranking is probably pretty fair at the moment.

Was a good listen. Bit weird without a host guy, but it was a good convo, particularly about the top 6 pitching prospects (Perales, Wikelman, Fitts, Sandlin, Yordanny, Dobbins).

Cliff's of one thing each pitcher needs to improve:

Perales - Fastball control
Wikelman - Control
Fitts - Needs 3rd pitch
Sandlin - Maintain increased velo
Yordanny - Fastball
Dobbins - Consistency

Ian said he wouldn't be surprised if Yordanny figured out his fastball situation & moved into the top 15 or top 10...buuuut I feel like it's likely be does based on his advanced feel on his secondaries so I don't see the point in waiting.

He also said he would guess Yordanny was working on a sinker this off season.

I was kind of surprised to find out Stijn was pronounced "Stine" & not "Steen". I like that Bates is working with Chansol. I find it fun when they pick up players from unusual places.

So far in this year's IFA class Tavano Baker from the Bahamas & Kenyon Simmons from Nicaragua are 2 of the ones I'm most curious about.

Stijn was a fantastic guy to chat with. He’s roommates with the Australian Adam Bates and when we did our podcast with Bates, Stijn was feeling very left out lol
