Dustin Pedroia being sent back to Boston for tests on his wrist. He's had swelling. Certainly doesn't sound good.
In FWAR, he's already ahead of Bobby Doerr, Red Schoendienst and Nellie Fox, maybe more second basemen that are already in, and more than 10 behind Cano. Doerr missed one year because of WWII. Pedey's got the ROY and MVP. I'd like to see Pedey add at least another 10-15.Injuries are going to end up keeping him out of the Hall, unfortunately. He must hold the record for injuries running to first base. Sad!
Why couldn't Pedroia have the MRI in Chicago and then have the results read by the Sox doctors he trusts in Boston? What's the reasoning behind having the MRI itself performed in Boston? Maybe if he's for sure going to be out at least several days, it doesn't matter.Jason MastrodonatoVerified account @JMastrodonato 2m2 minutes ago
X-rays done in Chicago but Pedroia wanted to go back to Boston for MRI via Red Sox medical team since he feels more comfortable with them-DD

Don't assume it's easy for MRIs to be uploaded/transmitted - they are huge files and there are significant HIPPA obstacles to just emailing/uploading them. Why couldn't Pedroia have the MRI in Chicago and then have the results read by the Sox doctors he trusts in Boston? Edit: I'm assuming they can email/upload/somehow transmit the MRI results electronically to Boston from Chicago.
When my son's x-rays from a Bellevue hospital were needed at Seattle Children's, they burned a disc and put the disc into a taxi.Don't assume it's easy for MRIs to be uploaded/transmitted - they are huge files and there are significant HIPPA obstacles to just emailing/uploading them.
tl;dr "hand guy"Don't assume it's easy for MRIs to be uploaded/transmitted - they are huge files and there are significant HIPPA obstacles to just emailing/uploading them.
Also, it makes sense to be physically examined by the person interpreting the MRI. It really helps to interpret if a subtle radiographic finding is at all clinically relevant.
Lastly, Pedroia (unfortunately) has a long track record with the Sox' hand specialist. They have a great relationship, it doesn't surprise me at all that Pedroia is coming back
I don't think it was any sort of indecision about sliding or not that led to the collision/tumble, it was all down to where Abreu ended up in his slide to the bag. He put himself in Pedey's running path to where Pedey couldn't avoid him. Any appearance of hesitation was him trying to find a way to avoid Abreu. Ultimately, it's the pitcher's fault for being so late getting over to cover that Abreu had to do what he did to get the out.Maybe this could actually be a good thing if it's on the less severe end of the spectrum of possibilities-- ~2-3 weeks on the shelf. It seems like he's still bothered by the knee injury from the Machado slide, so maybe a couple weeks on the DL will allow that injury to heal up. Ironically, after years and years of ill advised head first slides into first it looked like he hesitated on sliding headfirst (someone finally told him to cut the shit?) and that lead to the awkward tumble he took.
Did Loomer take into account the idea that Pedroia might have also been considering trying to touch first base amid the hoopla.Merloni said it was an unathletic move on Pedey's part and speculated he might be playing with an undisclosed knee ailment because he couldn't jump over Abreu.

Definition of long term? Way to go out on a limb, Farrell or Jen (not to shoot the messenger, Paul). It's his left wrist; hadn't seen that mentioned.

Jen McCaffrey Retweeted MLB Network Radio
Farrell on MLB Network Radio indicating this isn't a long-term injury for Pedroia. Headed back to Chicago today.
Click on the tweet. "No fractures, or structural damage. 3, 4 or even 10 day thing".Definition of long term? Way to go out on a limb, Farrell or Jen (not to shoot the messenger, Paul). It's his left wrist; hadn't seen that mentioned.
Excellent. Also a chance to rest everything else that may be sore.Click on the tweet. "No fractures, or structural damage. 3, 4 or even 10 day thing".

@peteAbe reporting Pedroia to DL with sprained left wrist; Sandoval coming to Chicago - #redsox #wbz
Fine, let him spell Hanley and be a bad DH or a late inning offensive replacement, but I really don't want to see him with a glove on ever.Is that supposed to be a knock against Pablo? I don't know about you but I'd rather have Panda's bat on the 25-man than whatever non-Devers replacement AAA can barf up. I get that he hasn't been great this year but he's hit for some power and seemed to be coming around before the knee thing.
