I think that was bowiac's point.

Didn't a good number of Vereen's wheel route drops happen when he was playing with a case on his wrist? I may be mistaken about this but I think I recall that in the 2013 season. I also don't remember many significant drops of any kind last season out of Vereen.RedOctober3829 said:Glad he could catch a ball with no one within 30 yards of him. Love him, but dropped so many of those passes.
Yeah - I should have been clearer there. I was noting that Vereen's rate of catches is notably lower than Faulk or Woodhead's (two players in vaguely similar roles with the same QB), plus I threw in Sproles for good measure.singaporesoxfan said:I think that was bowiac's point.
Vereen's catch rate last year was right in line with career norms: 68%TheoShmeo said:Didn't a good number of Vereen's wheel route drops happen when he was playing with a case on his wrist? Fair enough. I don't recall many drops on wheel routes last year but they may have happened. Do you (or anyone else) know how that rate compares to other backs? It seems on the low side to me but that could be wrong.bowiac said:Vereen's catch rate last year was right in line with career norms: 68%
It’s hard to blame Lewis for wanting to put a little extra money in his pocket, but we’re told the Patriots were shocked that Lewis accepted this below-market deal.
It was really an incredible one-man show, starting with the one-handed grab for a pass behind him, (an aspect of the play that seems to get no love, lost in the wizardry of the run after the catch).soxhop411 said:Link to play for those who missed it

Its kind of nice to rotate newer RB's in that are hungry and play with that chip on their shoulder as well. It makes little sense to overspend at a somewhat fungible position. That lack of loyalty definitely seems like cheating though.BaseballJones said:But the Patriots win because they cheat! It has nothing to do with the fact that they let a terrific player (Vereen) go because of the cost, and then picked up a player that has been oft-injured and that NOBODY ELSE WANTED BUT COULD HAVE HAD, and utilized that player in such a way as to allow him to maximize his abilities.
No, it can't possibly be that.....

Yeah, but that 6th guy was in perfect position to keep him from running out the back of the end zone.ragnarok725 said:
There are literally 5 defenders in the area, with no blockers. How the hell did he score?!

That's the crazy thing about the run. Making the two guys miss was nice, but you see moves like that a couple times a week, only for the third and fourth guys to come in and clean up the tackle. But somehow he goes from being basically stopped a the 6-yard-line to bursting ahead so quickly that Corey White misses the tackle at the 4 and J.J. Wilcox's bump at the 2 can't keep him out of the end zone.uncannymanny said:That burst of speed when he hits the 5 looks like someone hit fast-forward.

Lewis had not played a regular-season snap in two years due to injury, he's not a big guy, and it seems like he's going to get a lot of playing time (which means his chances of getting hurt again are high). He'd have been a fool not to take guaranteed money.
